Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am also worried about finding a good seat lol I want to be somewhere in the middle so I don't have to arch/ twist my neck to see the projector screen. not in the front, but close enough that I can hear everything well, and not too far away to be distracted on my iPad or laptop lol.

Thank goodness I have my house and roommates lined up, that is a huuuuge relief!!

Lol you guys are funny.

I'm here to entertain! Haha.

But seriously, why am I worried about the silliest things? Oh we'll, more to laugh about later when I realize it was not as big of a deal as I thought! I'm still very excited for vet school! I'm also excited to finally live in an apartment and be on my own. I've lived in the dorms for all four years of undergrad because I've be an RA for the last three and I'm ready to join the real world.

I went to the Exotics Symposium at Mizzou, and some of the lectures were in the first year lecture hall (I'm pretty sure). There really isn't a bad seat in the house, as far as view goes. The distraction reason is definitely a concern of mine too though!

At open house we went to the toxicology lecture and I was so tired that I nearly fell asleep lol and this is while the professor was dressed like a super hero.. His alter ego " the Antidote " and he was being very theatrical lol

That sounds awesome! We just had an info session for the incoming class, which was pretty cool and definitely informative but no superheros.

Related to the seat discussion, I tend to choose aisle seats because I don't like the idea of being blocked from making an exit. It's never been a problem—I never leave a class to use the restroom or anything. For some reason, though, I know that if I sit in the middle, THAT will be the day I need to get up mid-lecture. 🙄

I will say that I am getting restless. Spending months and months doing the dreaded WAIT, and now I have an acceptance... but now MORE waiting! Do I ever get to stop this WAITING?!

Nope... in one year you will be WAITING and DYING for there to be no more exams and to just be able to have a break. 🙂

👍 to aisle seats. I just like knowing that if I ever needed to get up and leave quickly, I could. Also great for exams when you finish before everyone else!

I'm the same way about aisle seats, though my preference stems more from a desire to avoid being crammed in shoulder to shoulder with everyone else. I get all cramped up and claustrophobic sitting in the middle of the row for too long. Only downside to the aisle is that it usually comes with a really lousy view of the lecture.

My favorite place to sit is in the very last row, especially since I'm tall and the last row usually has more leg room than any of the others. Except everyone seems to think that if you sit at the back of the room, you're a terrible student. 🙄

I like the left-sided aisle seat because I'm left-handed. That way, I can angle my notebook (or laptop) without feeling like I'm in some one else's space! Plus I can stretch my legs out to the side (I'm tall, too, at 6'). But about two-thirds of my classes have individual desks, so then it's just a matter of personal preference, rather than personal space.

Yes to the left-sided aisle seat! As a leftie I'm always worried I'm going to elbow someone while taking notes, especially in those giant, cramped lecture halls (I'm referring to you Ochem)

That is one thing I do too. I don't much care where I sit as far as distance to the front goes, but I prefer to sit on an end.

Oh my gosh. I move in like 3 months. Where the hell did the time go?!?!?

This occurred to me the other day as well. I can't decide how I feel. It totally has not hit me at all. Though I was really really sad this morning about having to leave volunteering as a tech at the zoo. If I could guarantee the vet was going to stick around for another year I would consider deferring just so I could have some more fun before the soul suck of vet school starts. Sigh.

Just finished my last undergrad class!!! Getting so excited about everything! 😀

I'm so jealous. I have 2 weeks until I'm done with my last prereq. And I've been in undergrad classes for the past 9 years! 😱

I can't wait to have 4 months with no school this summer! 😍

I have two weeks left as well. Hang in there. It will be summer soon. 🙂

Hi Everyone!

I will be starting medical school at UF College of Medicine in August (Class of 2017). I am looking for a roommate and want to live in the Summit House Apartments in Gainesville, FL. These apartments are reasonably priced and very close to the campuses which is great! I am a non-smoker, very serious student, athletic, quiet, and overall easy going! Please message me or email me at [email protected] if you are interested! Thanks 🙂

My boyfriend is mad at me because I have been spending all of my paychecks on Ohio State apparel.... Oh well! 😀 😀 :zip: :zip:

I don't see anything wrong with that! :naughty:  I too have used some of my paychecks to buy buckeye clothing 😀

Am I the only one with ZERO motivation to study for finals? My first of four finals is tomorrow afternoon and I haven't even cracked open my notes or book. Granted, my four finals are all equine electives and shouldn't be hard, I feel like I should try or do something...My only "hard" final was going to be immunology and my teacher decided to cancel our final because he was too lazy to write it/grade it. 🙄 I did, however, spend time figuring out how well I have to do to pass my classes. The highest I have to get on a final is 5%. 2/4 I can pass without taking it. I know I should try to keep my A's, but I need a swift kick to the rear end to get my butt in gear!

Hopefully I find my long lost motivation this fall...I think "it" got excited for vet school and moved to Columbus already.

You're not alone! I'm jealous of you guys on the semester system! I'm literally counting down the weeks to freedom from my crazy PI, thesis writing, and my crazy statistics class. 5 more weeks 😀 Good luck on your finals Stb 🙂

I pretty much stopped doing classes after I got my acceptance last year. 🙄 Working nights at an emergency clinic contributed somewhat, but after the first couple tests I'd already done I pretty much needed 40-50s to pass my classes, and sort of ran with that. Still actually ended up with a not-horrible GPA that semester, but it was definitely not fought for tooth and nail. 😛

First final tomorrow, second on Tuesday, and absolutely zero motivation. I've already finished the pre-reqs too, so these classes really don't matter. And I have As in them... So hard to make myself care at this point. My motivation apparently decided to take a mental health day in preparation for vet school.

Thanks wildowl 🙂
Eventrider - None of my classes are prereqs either. I actually only need only one class this semester to finish my degree and its a one credit hour sr. seminar that I've already finished...I just want to be done!

None of my classes are prerequisites, and I won't be finishing my degree now. So, I have no reason to be here still. Just one more final to take next week...

Had my last shift at the equine hospital I have worked at for 3 years yesterday... bittersweet moment I have to say.

So after my whiney post, I figured I'd say good luck on finals to everyone who has them. We are so close guys!

Very very thankful to have graduated in December. I can't imagine going through finals right now!! Good luck everyone!

I had my last day of undergrad classes today. It was pretty great that my last undergrad class ever was my just-for-fun class that 2/3 of the class consists of my friend group! 😀

Despite just needing to pass to keep my vet school spot, I still have to care about my grades. Apparently there's some honor society or something that depends on final grades, and I want to qualify. Shouldn't be too bad though. I just have 2 exams and a presentation besides finishing edits on my thesis. I can do this...

Yup, that's about how I'm feeling. Just have to pass biochem now that I'm accepted. I'm kind of tempted to go talk to my prof and tell her that I just need a C in the class, but I feel like that's inviting trouble. I despise the class mostly because of the way it's organized (or should I say disorganized?) and taught. REEEEALLY struggling to give a bleep anymore.

One final left on Wednesday and then it's off to Columbus to apartment hunt with the fiance!! 😀 😀

Just sent in an apartment application for a place I saw over the weekend. Is this really happening in a couple months??

I'm sick of studying for finals that I don't care about and I just keep thinking how much MORE studying I am going to have to do come Fall. 😱

I want classes to be over so that I can get at least a little excited for vet school again.🙁

It's hard trying to stay motivated. No joke.

Very envious of the people who are already done! I'm not done until the end of May! And I might be trying to move out of my current place by June 1. Depends on whether the housing I'm looking at right now comes through. D:

I registered for my first semester of vet school classes today. I'm just so excited! It's a good thing they didn't send the email about it until after I was done with my exams for the week because I never would have been able to focus on studying after that. Just one more exam on Monday and I'm done!

Bleh, I did five hours of cognitive assessment testing today. FIVE HOURS STRAIGHT. My brain is now moosh. And I have more tomorrow!

Oh the irony of everyone rushing to be done with exams :meanie:

CSU sent out welcome packet emails today 🙂

I'm going to just pretend I didn't already find all of that information for myself over the past few months..... 😀

UF is soooo behind the ball on this stuff. Meh!

Oh a brighter note I did purchase my first UF orange and blue item in probably 4 years today. I only have 2 degrees from this school but you'd never know it looking in my closet.

Has anyone else been getting that awkward super vague "Congratulations!" from people and you're not really sure what they're congratulating you on?

I graduated in December but people are still congratulating me on that. Some people think I'm graduating this month so they congratulate me for that. Then there's getting into vet school. Then there's the occasional "I heard you got a job interview" congratulatory nonsense. Mostly I just play along until I can figure out what they're talking about.

At a party with a bunch of my mom's friends last week, one of them gave me a vague "Congratulations, you must be so excited!" and everyone within earshot assumed that I'd gotten engaged. Because, you know, that's apparently what you're supposed to do when you're 24 years old. :smack:

Yes. It's super awkward sometimes. I'm in your position except people assume "congratulations" means I'm pregnant. Great..... 😕

Some of my boyfriend's family responded to the news of me getting into vet school with "But now when are you guys going to get married and have kids. You better do it soon while grandpa is still alive."

Sure, I'd be happy to put my dreams of vet school on hold to pop out a kid. People really don't think before they speak!
