Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have to pack my entire apartment. My whole life is going. And I'm doing it alone. Ugh. When I think about that part it gets to me.

Well yeah it's going to seem intimidating when you think of it like that. Just focus on little bits, one room at a time or maybe less. Once you get started it won't seem so bad. Put on some music and make yourself a drink and just go.

I leave for Europe on Saturday for a whole month. I get back on a Monday and then leave Thursday for California for my friend's wedding. Get back on a Monday, and I have to be down in Auburn moved in the following Monday. I'm getting a lot of help though, which is the only way I'm going to make it through. But at this point....I'm freaking out about Europe and Auburn and alternately happy, sad, excited, nervous, apprehensive...

I may or may not have timer countdowns on my laptop's dashboard for when I leave and arrive, the start of orientation, and the start of classes...

I have my last day of work marked. It will playing "I love it"

My last day is 8/2. 🙁 If I work into August, I get to keep my health insurance for the month.

But... that's only 22 actual work days (thanks to a bunch of vacation days coming up!)

My last day is 3 days before I leave. But I don't have to work again until then unless I cover for someone. So it's ok!

Mine is 7/31. I think I have 23 more days of working.

my last day was technically june 15, but before than hadn't worked since june 2nd. still volunteering at a few places (vet & not), but was so happy to get done with there.

moving in less than 18 days!

Another one for my last day being 7/12- I cannot wait to get out of that place. Just 2 1/2 weeks left. Then Comic con, then the big move! Just one month away, crazy!

Last day of work 7/5, closing on my house on 7/9, and plenty of time (thankfully) to paint, prep, and move before Vegas and my best friend's visit from Ireland on 7/20. So close!

Ugh, I literally just finished unpacking my room from moving with my parents. I don't want to think about moving again yet! I do have two boxes of stuff I won't need here packed and labeled to go to LSU, though.

I don't want to think about another move either! 🙁(( I just moved 5 years of my life on the west coast of FL. SO MANY BOXES.... And I will have to re-evaluate all my things for the move to Ohio in a month... Probably leave behind my flip-flops and bikinis 🙁

You may want to rethink this decision...it's been 85+ the last five days.

Close on house tomorrow. Move Tuesday

I have those on my phone...don't feel bad. 29 days til I move, 49 days til orientation, 56 days til school starts 😀

It's been so hot here too (PA). Cs - bring your flip flops & swimsuits! I wear flip flops all summer in PA and when I was at school in Ohio!

I'm sure it will still be hot, but hoping Kansas will be at least a little bit cooler than here. Weather says 103 tomorrow and 104 Friday. Do not want.

eek, that is way too hot. what electives did you sign up for?

mid 80s F / high 20s C is my tolerable max though. 😉

Yeah. I've always been more partial to the cold weather (I love snow 😀). I don't like summers here, stay cooped up inside a lot...too hot for me.

I signed up for cognates and etymology, 3d imaging anatomy of the dog, and use and interpretation of vet scientific lit.

wut.

No fair! Is it common for first years to have electives? Our schedule is all laid out for us and it's not very exciting.

Well, K-State gives you a pretty decent selection. 🙂 I haven't received anything other than acceptance letter from my school yet, but I think I'm in the same boat as you. Which makes sense I guess since my class is 32 people. OSU is smaller too, right?

Our fall semster is planned for us but I believe we get some electives in the spring semester! Anatomy of the carnivore is already on my short list 😀

Nah, I don't think most schools give you as many options. 5 hours total of electives this year (3 fall, 2 spring), 3 hours second year, and 5 again third year. There's several to choose from, it's pretty sweet. There are also a couple zero credit hour classes in the curriculum which I thought was weird.

Whoa, I *thought* we were small, but our class size is 56 or 57!! Is that averageish then?

I believe Ohio State is the same way. We have a set schedule for the first semester and I think we pick a couple electives in the spring.
Emergency Med is on my list for second semester! (Hopefully!!)

Class of 32 students?! That's amazing!! Ohio State has 162... I am worried about the large class :/ My undergrad had 30 max per class, so it will be a big change!

I'm a little worried too. My biggest class was in the 50s but most of my classes (esp my last two years) had less than 20 people. I think we'll do just fine though. 🙂

Went to small schools, eh? I thought like 50 or less was a small class, and bigger lectures could have like 300 people. Got 115 in the class at K-state.

Ahhh ok. Definitely smaller than the norm. It's strictly for AB residents though, which lends to its size.

Parents are arguing with me over my investment in a larger bed. It's not going well. They somehow think a single is perfectly ok for a 24 yr old woman living on her own. I need to move into my place already......orientation, hurry up!

My undergrad was small as well. You have a lot of freedom with who you hang out with in a large class though!

haha yup. My school had about 3000 undergraduate students and about 1000 grad students.. Not as small as my brothers college though, only 1300 students total! Its the same size as the high school we went to.

After living on campus all four years in a twin xl...there was no question that I was getting a queen bed for vet school! Luckily, my mother didn't argue and even got me my bedroom set/mattress as my graduation present 😀 Good luck with your parents..you deserve a larger bed!

Only 1300? Hah, my high school had a lot more than that. Almost 50k students at TAMU, it's a big school.

I had the same discussion with mine, but thankfully they took my side quick enough. I'm 6'1'' tall. I am not using a tiny bed.

Plus, something bigger is much nicer for, ahem, having company :meanie:

Your mom knows what's up. 😀

 Indeed.....which is a point that is difficult to explain. 😉 I wish I had the tall argument!

I wanted a double. Mom insisted I get a queen. It has come in handy.

My mom told me I needed a queen for when my SO comes to visit (and this was before we got engaged). She also said it will be great to have when I graduate and we get a house together. I suddenly appreciate my mom a little more now, haha.

Mom thinks men sleep on the couch.

I currently have a queen bed, but downsizing to a full for room purposes. 🙁

We have a full sized bed because our first NYC apartment was tiny and it was all that would fit. Two grown ass adults and three cats that won't budge in a full size bed = I need a bigger bed dammit. :lame:

30 max per class? 😱 I'm coming from one of the largest universities in the U.S. (there were 60,000 students when I graduated) and going to WesternU, where there's only 105 students in my class. It was weird to be on such a quiet campus for my interview.
