Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Spent the day at a wildlife rehab place and had so much fun.....the zoo last week was amazing too and had a little thought pop in my head that had me wondering if I really want to do horses.....

I don't see myself wavering much during school, but it shocked me that the thought surfaced....

Well I passed my first test last week.I feel like I'm starting to get into the swing of things!

Where do I fit all of this information I need like an external brain with several TB of memory.

Wow, what a crazy week it has been. We've had 5 exams in the course of a week plus 2 quizzes. Just wow! Anyway, I managed to do surprising well on things so far, including anatomy, somehow!! We had our Microanatomy practical today...not sure how that went. But, for now, just gotta gear up and get ready for our first Physiology exam on Monday... that is going to be scary :O But so far, I'm enjoying vet school, besides the really long days. I just feel exhausted when I get home and have a hard time finding motivation to do my notes or study.

I wish we had some exams already :/ We have all our exams in October, except for one midterm next week because that class only lasts half the semester. I feel like I am forgetting more and more as the days go on.... I want to be tested on all the old junk already before they keep piling even more on us!

October is going to be crazy for us. I'm enjoying the lack of tests to keep on top of things while I can!
P.S. - Enjoyed sitting with you this morning!

I feel the same way! I was talking to my roommate today about how we have midterms in three weeks and we not only need to keep learning but need to start reviewing old material. I feel like it can't possibly have been five weeks already!

Seriously! I have no idea how I am EVER going to remember all this . . . or even the majority of it! Starting to get really anxious about midterms even though they're still a month away. :scared:

Correction....they're ONLY a month away :scared::scared::scared:

It wouldn't be so bad if we had some tests or quizzes before but the fact that our first feedback is midterms is very stress-inducing.

There's online quizzes for histo and anatomy. That might help.

I know in the past they've done mock anatomy exams which were somewhat helpful. I never liked the online histo quizzes because I found the pictures weren't all that great so they just stressed me out more because I thought I knew nothing when actually the images just sucked. Could you ask him to do a mock exam for that maybe in class?

I need to study a lot more before I attempt those. I have a feeling that right now they'd just freak me out even more.

Mostly my biggest fear is anatomy. So. Many. Things.

This!!!!!! And our professor will ask things like, a dog gets hit by a car and the spine of his scapula is smashed. What muscles are involved? I appreciate that he is preparing us for clinical applications of what we're learning, but this test is terrifying me. :scared:

At least I have until next Friday to try to fit all that information *somewhere* in my brain... Tomorrow is our first test of the year, on Friday the 13th, in physiology :meanie:

We have an anatomy quiz tomorrow and the written/practical exams next week. And I'm pretty sure we're going to get questions like those, too. And What muscles are flexed/extended at this stage in the gait. And...I'm gonna need to do a whole lot more studying this weekend.

Hey, I have a physiology test tomorrow too!

...and then another one next week :lame:

Good luck!

I'm starting real class on Monday. I've only been doing group field trips thus far in a pass/fail class.

I'm feeling a little bit behind.....:scared: What kind of Christmas holidays do you guys have? The time has to be made up somewhere.....I'm done for the year by April 30th.

Hm, early finish.

I think our finals are done Dec 20 and we start again like the 21st of Jan. Spring semester ends May 16.

Ahh ok. I only have Dec 21 - Jan 2. There's still a few weeks short though with my late start, 2-week field class and early finish in the spring. Weird...

Thanksgiving is only one day off, but that hardly counts.

Huh.

Pft, I always just sleep in. My dad and sister are the crazy ones that go out shopping at like 5am...I ask then to grab any purchases I know I want

Yeah, can't say I'm that hardcore (unless there's something I REALLY want). It's usually mid-morning before I get anywhere. My dad is sent to the midnight/1 am sales and my mom to the 4 am/5 am sales, so I don't have it so bad. :meanie:

That was back when I would be in AZ for American Thanksgiving. My best option now is driving 5 hrs south to Great Falls, MT. Not likely to happen....and shipping costs negate the savings (if I can even manage to get it shipped here).

Clearly this means I need to immigrate. You need more vet students right? 😛

I should really quit SDN'ing and work on my presentation for tomorrow. Looks like procrastination has yet to be conquered.

Yeah, the Canadian schools don't give us American Thanksgiving so we get the Monday of the weekend of Canadian Thanksgiving off. Plus we get a pretty short winter break (3 weeks) compared to many others. But the fact that you (Escalla) finish pretty much when we do and only really start on Monday (which will be the start of our fourth week) is a bit weird.

Dang, AVC gets 3 weeks??

10 days doesn't seem long enough......but I guess a long summer isn't so bad.

WCVM started way ahead of me too. So we may just be special here in Calgary.

From this moment until 3pm Monday I will be studying nothing but physio. I am seriously struggling with this class. Ugh. So stressed 🙁

I feel like it should make sense, and it kind of does. But then I just know I will never know it in the detail I need to in order to do well. Sad days.

My kill-myself-studying of the weekend is anatomy. I'm not even that worried that I won't know it; I'm mostly worried I won't write it properly in the perfect formula and I'll get points off for that.

And I guess I'm kind of worried since I don't know it yet, but that's what the weekend is for.

My vet school vacation is officially over. No more road trips, playing with baby fawns or giving one presentation per week.....

Last weekend of freedom with a class initiation party tomorrow. Then **** hits the fan.

I'm trying to bottle the happiness, excitement and joy for what is to come. I can't help but be excited though! 😀

So we may just be special here in Calgary.

This was supposed to include that we always feel like we're special, at least. As any other Canadian can confirm. 😉

My 3 hour anatomy exam is over... I feel pretty good about it =)

As promised, the video the 2nd years made for our "Smoker" party after our first anatomy exam. I hope yall enjoy!

My third-year housemate is way too enthusiastic about the prospect of vet school crushing my soul.

Physio test in the morning. :scared: I am not a smart person.

Ugh ours is tomorrow at 2 ... After we have physio and cell lecture and micro lab... Why can't we just take it first thing in the am?!?

Well, it's like that in here sometimes. The new class has their thread and they are all bubbly and excited to learn and will readily poo-poo anyone that says something negative about vet school (I'm thinking more of the c/o 2016, you guys weren't as squee) and I'm just like:

But it's another thing if someone seems excited about it. Unless, of course, you were like, "Noooo, I'm gonna love it. You just are a pessimist!" In which case... yeah, I'd be all like neener neener told you so too.

I think it's hard to realize just how jaded you have become after long enough. Don't let it get to you too much, or tell them to shut it if it bugs you enough.

No, she was just asking how my studying is going and then followed it up with, basically, "so, is your soul crushed yet?" It's not like she's been doing it a bunch...I guess misery loves company?

It's probably something psychological, like hazing. We went through it and survived, so everyone else should too. :meanie:

Just make cookies and then don't share. That'll show her.

SO not looking forward to this phys exam tomorrow... I don't feel nearly prepared enough, but I just can't force myself to study anymore like I have been all weekend.
