Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, it's like that in here sometimes. The new class has their thread and they are all bubbly and excited to learn and will readily poo-poo anyone that says something negative about vet school (I'm thinking more of the c/o 2016, you guys weren't as squee) and I'm just like:

Odd, I don't remember being all squee... I was actually freaking the eff out most of the time because I was moving to a different country. I actually never really got the super excited omg I have been accepted moment.... for reasons (I was even looking back at old posts from right before we started and I mentioned this...)

No, she was just asking how my studying is going and then followed it up with, basically, "so, is your soul crushed yet?" It's not like she's been doing it a bunch...I guess misery loves company?

This one second year the other day was like "how's first year?" I was like, "it's good." Then she was all, "Don't lie, I know it's not. First year sucks"

Seriously. What the hell.

Sigh. I feel like I am behind in anatomy and histo. Not by much, but just enough to put a niggle of anxiety into my body. I keep trying to study, but have no interest. I'm just glad I didn't bail early in anatomy lab and went over stuff from last week. Most of our class disappeared an hour early. Gotta be ready for a quiz on Friday, so I hope I get caught up by then. Also a Histo exam on Monday. The endless cycle has begun. :d

First day done, not a whole lot covered other than the usual syllabus, course expectations, etc. talk.

The downside of the vet school still being relatively new (and having a smaller number of students compared to other programs...) is the lack of swag in the bookstore. No clothing, lanyards at all. :lame: Apparently you have to be a med student to have that available. 👎

Guess who's going to bomb their anatomy exam tomorrow? I can't get this stuff to stick in my brain.

Yeah we just took quick pictures of everything then went to old phys. It is so crowded and too loud to do much in the actual lab. Hoping to go over everything on my own this week, too. So much to do!

I'm in that boat too 🙁 Luckily a lot of the clubs sell stuff with vet med on it! I just have to hold out until they actually order it.

It's raining a little today.Nice and cool and low light. I do not feel like going back in to afternoon Histo. I just wanna lounge on the couch with my animals and study in peace. Lab is three hours after 1 hour lecture. Soooo long! 🙁

And now there is a $200 fine for walking in the mud.

2nd day of lectures and I'm already scatterbrained enough to leave my stylus somewhere. 🙄 effffffff.

Why can't I every find the drink thread?! Just drank a whole bottle of wine. By myself. Watching TV. On the couch.

Right there with you - but Angry Orchard. Need to do homework for my public health class - not happening tonight.

It would have been wood chucks but then I decided to drink a whole bottle of pink mosxato. It was a terrible idea. But I am happy.

Integument histology lab.... I cant pay attention. 😴

Just got out of the second part of my anatomy exam...I'm so done and I still need to be here until 5, including rabies vaccination. Augh

I'm not sure yet how I feel about having only one big exam in May. :S

Edinburgh doesn't go quite that long with exams, but still we will go for a good semester and have an exam at the end. My tip: Really stay on top of the material. It is easy to think, "Oh well I have time, the exam isn't until xxxx", then before you know it you only have two weeks until xxxx. Just make an attempt to study a little each day. I did not do this last year and then I was cramming a full 8-10+ weeks worth of information into my brain in 10 days; it worked, but I was doing this :scared: the whole time.

Today was sooo long...definitely time for a break. I'm making a cherry pie and going out with some classmates for $1 burgers tonight...studying for my next exam can wait until tomorrow.

Well, I have officially been studying semi-continuously since 3:00 PM CST. I started out feeling like I knew what I was reading and was going to be in good shape for anatomy quiz on Friday. I no longer feel that way. Haven't even started on Histo, which is an Exam on Monday. :lame:

Immunology is getting hard to sit through. Our prof is new so I find his slides really unorganized and he flicks through a minimum of 50 slides per 50 min lecture. Add to it his thick Spanish accent and I learn nothing in lecture. It's looking like Immuno will mostly be self taught and that scares me.

On the plus side, I'm actually enjoying phys, anatomy and histology. I don't expect that to last though.

I have a Histology final Friday that I have no desire to study for. Blah...

Clinical skills day today....spent the morning learning basic surgery skills which was fun. I will need so much practice before I could hope of passing the OSCE though....:scared: I feel like I have two left hands still.

I have a couple scalpel blades and suture packs to practice this weekend, still need to go find some animal organs or tissues at the grocery store to practice on.
