Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
 probably. I'm just happy to be in vet school, even as a first year. Regardless that I'm "behind schedule" or whatnot. 😀 So I tend to be overly positive.

👍👍

Still very happy to be here, even with PSkills scaring the **** out of me. 🙂

Talk to me next year.😉 I'm glad you all are enjoying first year. It's not that it was hard (so I don't mean to scare you), it's just that you could not pay me any amount of money to go through it again because it was so draining. So far, 2nd year has been harder because there is just so much more material.

I'm hoping clinical skills will keep me grounded. Taking a day each week to play with animals has been great so far, but I hear you. Parasitology, Bacteriology and Pharmacology in particular seem a bit daunting.

Physiology exam tomorrow.

I can understand that.

If I didn't take my time in UG or with the app process, I would have been in the c/o 2014...so I hear you. I just try really hard not to think about how much later 2017 is. 😉

(the 19/20 yr olds in my class still do the best job at making me feel old though....)

Being young in vet school isn't great. One of our professors posted in our class page about how there was no one under 21 in our class and how she wanted to squash that rumor... Which is weird, because I turned 20 a few weeks before classes started...

Being under 21 would be more noticeable in the U.S....I forgot about that! Not so much where the drinking age is 18. 😉

One of my anatomy group members turns 20 in April I think? I call her the baby of the class. :meanie:

I think there's one or two folks in my class who are under 21. Though it seems there are several in the class who don't drink anyway. Kudos to them because I need my alcohol

Let's have a toast.

To the stronger individuals that have so far made it through these first couple months without alcohol consumption. I salute you! and wait until the inevitable day comes....

I need some vanilla vodka and rootbeer for this.

I say right on! Leaves more booze for me! Polished off a bottle of wine tonight! 😀

Get involved in activities that will get you hands-on outside of your curriculum. Don't count on clinical skills to be enough. Join clubs.... find a local clinic where you love the doctors and can just hang out every few weeks.... stuff like that.

I hear a lot of new students talk about being nervous to over-commit (and I understand!), but I have gotten *SO MUCH* out of club activities and clinic time outside of school. I can't even imagine where I'd be if I hadn't done that stuff.

Meh. I find every semester of vet school gets harder as it goes - but your ability to manage it grows alongside. So it's really mostly a wash. I mean, I used to have to study and study and study the same stuff over and over just to get a high B or low A. Now I skim the material once before the exam and get the same grades.

👍

I appreciate the tips. 🙂 I'm that person who joins 20394820934 clubs and then weans some out after a year depending on what I like. I do need to find a clinic to haunt though....

Yeah, that's why I said it wasn't directed at you - I knew you were <that> person. 🙂

My experience has been clinics are a LOT more open to letting you hang out irregularly once you're actually a vet student (as opposed to when you're a pre-vet wanting to shadow and find as many clinics rejecting you as accepting you).

This is more what I am expecting. Plus, I am a pretty mellow person when it comes to stress etc. That everything will turn out JUST FINE. 🙂

There's a liquor store near me that has weekly sales on all their wine, it's pretty neat.

I've got a few bottles handy. Oh, yeah and that Grey Goose I bought this week. Saturday is going to be a good night. And maybe Friday too... :meanie:

Baller! I have a bottle of Jack, Jose, Smirnoff, and three bottles of rum (not sure how that happened). I just haven't been drinking all that much. Lordy, I'm gonna have zero tolerance in no time at all!

Nothing wrong with being a cheap date 😉

I'm a definitely a fan of the vodka and they had a sale on the Grey Goose too so I couldn't resist 😀

Nice stash you've got. My roommates rarely drink so I don't hoard it much, they wouldn't appreciate my booze sucking up all the freezer space.

I hoarded it before I moved to Utah  and no roommates here, so my booze can take all the space it wants! 😀

On that note, class starts in 50 minutes and I'm still laying in bed. I need a shower, gotta walk the dogs etc... I'm so responsible....

Yeah, the drinking thing makes it more obvious. Plus, where I'm from (Australia) most people go straight to vet school out of high school so it's more common to have people around my age, or even younger. Then again, it makes up for the age difference since it's a 6 year program!

I definitely need to try that! Sounds delicious!

Alcohol is ridiculously expensive in Canada. A bottle of vodka that would have cost me $8.99 back home costs $24.99 here. I can't afford to drink in this country.

Yes.... I was drinking 3x the amount when I was in the U.S. with how cheap liquor is in ND. Know your limits at the border and bring some back each time you go home. It is too much money here, agreed.

sorry to further hijack your thread 2017...but anyone a fan of ciders? Has anyone tried the pumpkin Woodchuck?

Ciders are my favorite drink EVER! I have been DYING to try Woodchuck pumpkin!!!! I know it exists, but I've never actually seen it anywhere.

Have you tried Woodchuck Belgian White? Phenomenal! Also love the Raspberry and the 802.

My favorite everyday drinking cider is Angry Orchard Crisp. I brought a case of it up with me from the states, and I have two bottles left in my fridge that I'm saving to celebrate moving to my new apartment. There's a couple brands of cider up here, but they run about $3.50/can so I'm not sure they're even worth trying. Which is sad because I looooooove hard cider. 😍

I plan on buying the pumpkin Woodchuck tomorrow, since I just finished my last summer Woodchuck last night. I'll let you know! I read some mixed reviews about it online. But, I love pumpkin so I must try it.

Cider.... Bleh! They make my stomach hurt. I prefer Margaritas!!! Drinking one at the moment!! Yaaay!

Micro written / practical this coming Monday and Tuesday, so tonight is my night to chill before a weekend of studying !!

Tequila is always No. 1. 😀

The university is closed for Thanksgiving on Monday.....which I understand......but I was really hoping for an extra day in the anatomy lab. 🙁 and I obviously can't bring Florence home, so pictures will have to do I guess.

Margaritas are perfectly acceptable as well!

Actually, pretty much any alcoholic beverage is acceptable with me. Except beer.

You don't have access to your lab then to go study? That stinks.

7:30-22:00 weekdays and 9:00-16:00 weekends. Closed stat holidays. Not my prime time study hrs, unfortunately.

Some classmates have been making videos going over specimens (our full horse and cow are only out during scheduled labs) which is great. Nothing can fully replace lab time though. 🙁

I have an exam at 7:20am. Don't they know I don't want to be up this early?
