Lucky that you guys got to take pictures of your anatomy specimens! It's an honor code violation here.

Yikes. Really, videos was the thing that kept me the most sane in anatomy. It meant I didn't have to be that lab constantly and I really didn't have to be in there right before a midterm surrounded by super-stressy classmates all talking over each other about what that nerve was.

Yeah. I think a lot of schools are (justifiably) concerned about the possibility of those pics getting out in public and upsetting people. Make sense. We were warned pretty strongly that they didn't mind us taking pics, but those pics had to stay private. They were reasonable at it, I felt.

That was our rule. Take all the pictures you want, but they are to be kept private. Distributing the cadaver pictures publically would have been an honour code violation.

I mean, I can sort of see where they're coming from. I did an enrichment shift with the blood donor cats this morning and snapped a few photos to show my mom when I go home for Christmas. I'd love to be able to post them to Facebook to show off some of the fun stuff I get to do in vet school, but I'm certainly not willing to risk my career for that.

The teaching hospital here keeps three resident cats as blood donors, and the feline club organizes shifts of student volunteers to go down and spend time with them. They get play time and socialization from the students for at least 20 minutes twice a day. We can also go down and hang with them any time we want, and some people do. The scheduled shifts are just a way to make sure they get out of their kennel and get some enrichment every day. Today was my day to play with them, and it was awesome. They are great cats. 😀

Yep. I think there was a big scandal a few years ago (animal rights got a hold of a picture or something). We're also not allowed to take pictures of ANY patients in the hospital, even the teaching animals (and we're actually strongly discouraged from taking pictures of our own pets in a clinical setting if they are a patient of the VTH).

Haha! My entire class basically got called incompetent today by a notoriously difficult phys teacher. Supposedly no one made higher than a C on the first exam, and we were gently told by the other prof that is teaching a portion as well as the assistant dean that it would all be ok, just to keep plugging away. This particular professor is starting up again as our lecturer on the kidneys tomorrow, so it should be an interesting morning.

I took a few pictures of the kitties too (and got my picture taken in jr. surgery and with an arm up a horse's butt last week) but I keep them private to show to my SO or family or even friends...just not on Facebook. I can understand wanting to show off what you're doing because there is plenty of cool stuff, but when the rules are very, very clear on what can and cannot be shared on social media...follow them. (Not directed at you, but at the people who continue to think that the rules don't apply to them.) There have been issues with the community in the past few years and I'm pretty sure half the island thinks we torture the beagles during labs anyway...🙄

Nah, we're the whiny class.

He's so funny. I didn't like him until I took his endocrine elective. He was a lot more laid back in that class. I was going to say that the third years were the whiny class but TT beat me to it 😛

We do a dairy tour second block first year and are told very clearly that NO pictures are allowed. It doesn't matter if you're not going to post them anywhere or if they'll just be for your eyes: no photos. I guess about three years ago some girl was very upset at the state of the dairy (which isn't a bad dairy, she just had never seen food animal before) and posted a ton of stuff online about how horrible they were. If the dairy owner is nice enough to let us tour his facility, we probably shouldn't badmouth it.

Yeah. We didn't think of it during our small animal stuff, but by the time we got to large animal we were taking our terms list and doing a Vanna White walkthrough video at the end of each lab to highlight/point out each item. If it was the kind of lab where you start destroying things to get to something else, we'd stop and make the video at that point. But by the end of our LA stuff, we had videos for just about everything. Was great for studying!!!!!! Sit down and watch those really short videos a few times and I was good to go. Shaved hours off my studying.

That's an awesome idea. I don't know that our donor cats get anything that organized. I wish they did. They're sweet cats. I only draw the dogs, though (tech staff do the cat donor draws, student staff do the dog donor draws).

For our dog program, they're typically all outside donors or fostered. We usually only keep donor dogs onsite long enough to get them to a foster.

Students can volunteer their dogs as donors, so the school doesn't actually own any donor dogs. Certain teaching horses are also used as donors but they're only pulled in when needed and then go back with the group.

OSCE next Thursday on a quite a few clinical skills. At least that's more fun to study. My skills of trimming cattle feet I am a bit more worried about however....lol.

It's homecoming weekend here at Mizzou!!!! I'm so excited for the game tomorrow!!

ETA- And did I mention Tailgating!?!? Oh boy I can't wait for the tailgate!!! We are making mimosas for the parade in the morning and then margaritas and yummy food during the day before the game at 6pm.. It's gonna be a long day, but It will totally be worth it!!!

What is currently holding me is is my stellar grade on the second anatomy exam. I walked out of the practical thinking I really screwed up. I got a better grade on it than the first one and I walked out of that one thinking I'd managed a perfect score.
