Class of 2017.... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just really really don't want to go back. This past week (spring break) has been such an amazing relaxing brain break for me that the thought of returning to classes tomorrow (or later today since it's well past midnight) has already started to stress me out in very unfortunate ways.

Already my grades this semester have been the worst yet in my vet school (or entire academic) career and the thought of jumping back into this semester is ... well I'd be lying if I said I wasn't actually tearing up right now.

Stressing about finding a subletter for the summer, about hoping my roommate will sign off on allowing me to find a subletter this summer, finding a place to live in Chicago for my fellowship this summer that will allow me to bring my fur-babies and not have to rob a bank to afford, and about finding an affordable place to live next year is all just piling on to the massive 30 credit madness that is this semester.

I should really just go to bed. Sigh.

Thanks guys. I have been in school so long I just need a change up. Despite tracking large the majority of my clinic schedule is small animal and I got the two ECC rotations I want and I may pick up a third which would allow me to be prepared for an externship I want to go to prior. I teched ECC for a year and a half and I loved it. The fast pace really appealed to me.

Spring break was just too amazing. I got to take three of my horses to HITS Ocala and we were pretty damn successful, especially considering I hadn't ridden in three months. My four year old was fantastic and we even got a couple lead changes in each class we did! And then I had to hop back on a plane to California 🙁
We start clinics in August and rumor has it that we're picking our schedule this week, so at least that's exciting!

Sat down with a friend today to work on figuring out our third year rotations! The software to input our choices opens tomorrow -- so exciting! 😀

Spring break has been amazing. I didn't do much of anything except relax with my pup, hang with the husband, cook lots of yummy meals and just be a normal human.. Back to the real world tomorrow.. We have a semi crummy week, a Tox quiz, anesthesia exam and medicine exam.. I've been studying for anesthesia for a couple days but haven't really touched anything else.. But I'm content with that for now. I'll probably kick it in high gear tomorrow but for now I'm just enjoying my last hours of freedom!!!

We had a laparoscopy lab last Friday that was fantastic! I can't wait to get more experience with those tools. All of our clinical skills labs are becoming so real!

Got to do a ring block on a ram today and help suture him up after we removed a mass! I love when we get to do doctor-y things 😀

So beyond ready for this crap of a semester to be done. I spent all last week in ICU with my poor kitteh thanks to a FUO. No one ever figured it out, but $1200 later he's back home and back to his usual antics. I will say thank goodness for student discounts. :cyclops:

Glad the kitteh is feeling better. 🙂

Thanks! Being raised on a ranch, I get a bit o' flack for spending the money I do on my pets instead of letting life do as it may, but these guys have always been my family. Not to mention, it was interesting to see what the hospital did vs what I would have done regarding treatment. I was pleased to find out that the plan I had come up with upon the original symptoms would have done the job. The extra diagnostics that I went ahead with to appease and satisfy a curiosity was worth it just to really see a difference between GP and referral treatments of a singular set of symptoms. Granted they (the symptoms) were confusing, but I started this path due to being helpless in a personal pet situation, and it felt good to find that I could have sufficiently treated my animal with the education that I have received so far.

It is so tough when a fur baby is doing crappy. The end of last semester I gave up any hope on caring/learning about anything. Glad it's better though. Was it your young boy?

Yep. Old boy pulled his trick during clin anatomy final last semester, so now I have to keep an eye on the dogs to see who is up for giving me greys...

Yeah, my dogs are killing me. Went in for wellness yesterday and one was Ehrlichia positive. Luckily her CBC was within normal range.

Oh man! That's crappy. I've got to get the dogs in for their Heartworm and wellness. I am always holding my breath since we are in such an infested vector territory that the dot/s will appear. I need to shave them down and give baths though, otherwise my embarrassment over the odor emanating from them might be a tough one to get over.

Im getting really excited about clinics. Ive spent a lot of time this week trying to figure out where I have housing options so that I can start scheduling electives / preceptorships. Its slowly coming together!

Eh. Coulda definitely done better, but I would do it the same way again if I had the chance. Oh wait, I do! I have another test coming up Monday and I just bought a six pack and am continuing my marathon... 😱
you should just join LIS and I for some cards against humanity...

Hating anesthesiology right now.. So. Much. Hate.

I've decided that I'm really bad at lung patterns on rads... But I did get to work up a prolapsed rectum case and a tracheitis case (owner wanted to treat conservatively... with steroids) so I got that going for me. Also, only 4 more weeks until I can call myself a third year!

I have hit panic about starting clinics. I am terrified. Absolutely terrified (excited too, but mostly :scared: )
I am so excited! I'm actually so excited that there's no room for fear. Only time will tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Plus I start my year with my small animal surgery rotation! 😀 😀 😀

This, along with internal medicine, brings the fear out in all of us at OSU. You may need your head checked 😉

Yeah, small animal surgery is the one that everyone just hopes to survive..... same with anesthesia.

Oh, I'm terrified for my IM rotation... the oral exam is the stuff of nightmares. But I love the surgeons we have, and I can't wait to be scrubbed in all day long! The anesthesia part I could do without.

Gah! Forgot this thread existed. I've risen from my "inactive" status to answer a few messages I received.

As for vet school, I have two finals left, and then I'm out of the classroom and on rotations. We haven't even started yet, and we've already been asked to formulate an on-call schedule. I'm both nervous and excited for Monday. It's so hard to find the motivation to study right now.

If anyone finds my motivation running around could you please send it back my way? I have a 10 page paper due tomorrow. I am currently 0% done. Why oh why did I chose molecular virology of feline calicivirus for my topic? (Although in all fairness I'm about 75% done with the research. I just have to figure out the flow and copy paste my notes in)

It's probably hiding with my motivation. Along with my sanity and ability to reason.

Glad my research paper was only five pages. Finally got it done and approved to turn in today so I can attempt to study for finals. I cannot wait for this semester to get outta my hair. Just gotta force myself to keep going. We can do it!!!!!

FINISHED WITH 2ND YEAR!!!
SO glad to be done with that block!!
Though, I do have to study this weekend (really bummed over that).
But will be starting our last 8 weeks of classes before summer on Monday as a 3rd year!!

3rd year Status!!! Woot woot!! But so sad we still have 8 weeks before summer starts 🙁 On the plus side- we start our 2nd surgery class next week!! Pretty stoked!

I did my second spay yesterday! A very aggressive kitty cat that wasn't too happy with having her ovaries removed. Thankfully, it was a very uneventful spay, despite her being in heat. Kind of sad that it was my last rotation of second year, but now I have my surgery rotation to look forward to in August!

Dude, surgery lab is so fun. Definitely take advantage of all the surgeons floating around.

I agree... Not sure where some of those questions came from.
