Class of 2020... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well ****, I wasn't kidding :asshat:

She's in my class and I still don't know who she is, and that makes me mad. Therefore I'm not allowed to be nice to her anymore.
I'll be in your nutrition and food animal classes next semester! 😛 But I enjoy being evil and driving you crazy. 😏

I'm dooooone! Only my physiology grade is still pending, but I definitely got either a B or a C in the class. Word on the street is about 20 people did badly enough on the final to fail the class, so I'm not sure what they're going to do about that.

Also I'm very glad Past Lyra knew that I would NOT want to get up at 6 am on the first day of winter break, and signed up to help with interviews starting at noon tomorrow instead of 7 am.

Holy cow. I would expect a couple but not that many. Hopefully they're only expecting the worst but will get good news.
Good job on picking the noon interviews though!

😱 That's so many! At ISU, we're kicked out if we fail even one class... does KSU have a similar policy?

And congrats on being done! 1/8th DVM! 🙂

Bats! How ya been?

Been doing okay! Been on rotation vacation the last eight weeks and some family drama going down since July (hence my hiatus). Otherwise, pretty good!

If you get an F you're out, if you get a D you have to retake the class (i.e. repeat the year). There's no way they would actually fail that many people, rumor is they'll either curve the final, or make those people retake the final after break (which would suck, but not as badly as being kicked out or held back). But it's all just hearsay at this point, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. And I'm very glad I only needed a 10% on the final to pass the class!

Officially passed all my classes 😀

Haven't heard if I passed the skills part of surgery yet, but we have two more chances if we didn't. We just have to pass by the end of the year and that's our first time to opt out, but a lot of people end up having to retest some skill, so I'm totally fine if I do.

I get to do a lot with the wildlife at my school, and I always get a little frustrated when people aren't paying attention or working efficiently while we've got a patient under iso for rads, IO catheters, whatever.

I hear about Wildlife from kids in my class and are motivated to join on one hand and mortified on the other.

I actually know someone in your class! I went to high school with her!

I am very glad to be done for the semester. Especially since we had a HUGE blackout the day before the our cumulative finals day...Hundreds (thousands?) of people without power in freezing temperatures. Was pretty brutal.

Finished out the first half of the year by satisfying the two goals I set for myself pre-vet school. #1 Learn a bunch but don't stress hard about grades and (more importantly) #2 Maintain sanity.:clap:

Binge-playing SCII all day in my pJs. It's been amazing. :biglove::biglove:

Lol....yeah....luckily my team is pretty excellent and responsible, but some interesting things have happened with other teams/first years for sure.

If you want to join next year, you can request which team leader you want to be with *cough* 😀

With how some of the people in my class are, I'm not surprised. Lol.

I've been thinking about it. ER has kinda stolen my heart after my rotation next week. Lol.

Thankfully, despite my extreme worries over anatomy and nutrition, it looks like I passed all of my classes and, if I calculated everything correctly, I should NOT be on academic probation. I know this really isn't much to be proud of, but with how much of this semester went, I'm actually very happy just to be able to continue in good standing. :joyful:

Hoping that next semester goes better.

Don't diminish your accomplishments! It's something to be very proud of! I'm proud of you!! Great job! Good luck next semester!!

Great job! I think it's something to be extremely proud of because you worked so incredibly hard for this. Be proud of yourself, have a relaxing break, and continue to kick more butt when you get back. :biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove:

It's a sort of strange feeling, returning to "real life" after being holed up in vet school land.

I'm very much enjoying it, though. On Sunday night, I was able to hang out with the family and then my SO without any studying guilt instead of prepping for a Monday morning exam!

Kinda blew my mind.

Where my peeps at??

Hope you all are having a good break ❤ and I hope you're all soaking up the sleep while you can... I know I am 😴

HAY GURL HAY.

I am definitely soaking up the sleep. I didn't realize just how tired and stressed I was until the first couple of days after finals - I was so dead.

Thankful for time to recuperate.

I have a count down to summer vacation cause that's the next time I'll be able to visit home again. Realized yesterday was the halfway point to summer. Just 135 days to go!

It depressed me to see how many days away summer is.

Hey y'all! Haven't been on here in a while but wanted to check in.

I HATE having to study over winter break. Stupid quarter system. But mostly I despise anatomy. Last quarter I managed an A but that was for 2 reasons: 1. Because the first two tests were more conceptual and less "What are all these structures and what do they do and what nerves innervate it." 2. They gave a bunch of free points.

I can't seem to figure out how to get anatomy into my brain. I'm doing fine right now but I hate it. I'd rather do genetics or immunology where there are more concepts and processes rather than structure memorization.

Otherwise I'm doing well. I really like vet school. The TNR was fun and I did my first neuters. Hazelmoo has been my boo and gotten me through a lot of the ****ty parts. And my kids are still alive sooo...

We just got our spring class schedule. Lol. :dead:
Ha I feel like my school went too easy on us during fall quarter (in hindsight!) because so far winter quarter has been much worse. 2 extra classes and days that are nearly always 8-4 or 5 😱

The current schedule has a week with an exam on Monday, and two exams on Friday, one of which is anatomy. Hoping that can be changed...and yeah. Lots of 8-4 or 5 days 😢

Eeewww. It's hard when they don't spread it out. They gave us 2 exams, 1 "half test" with 1 "half practical" (stupid anatomy), 1 quiz, and half the students had to do a presentation all in the week before winter break. It was only the third week of winter quarter and it nearly felt like finals week. Our finals for this quarter are in February...

I will never complain about my schedule again....

Supposedly that's the hardest week of this quarter besides finals week. I think they just wanted to squeeze as much as they could in before the break.

How many classes is everybody in? We had 8 classes last semester and 8 this coming semester, and we run from 8:30-4 or 5 every day 😕 Occasionally we'll get a free period but there's only 1 or 2 of those a month haha

We had six last semester and went 9-4 or 9-5 every day. Next semester we have seven I think and go 8-4 or 5 each day except Friday.

We had 8 classes last semester and were pretty much 8-5 every day. This coming semester is also basically 8-5 but we have 7 classes (they are worth more credits, though).

We had 5 lecture and 2 labs. Then you could have electives. Most days were 9-4. The second 8 weeks were clinical rotations.

This is our first year total. We have fewer classes for each quarter than y'all would have in a semester, but there's 3 quarters vs 2 semesters. There are definitely pros and cons to having it this way.

We had 8 classes last semester, a couple of which had labs, but only 7 classes at a time because two of the classes were only half of the term. Most days we were scheduled for 8-4ish, though that varied somewhat. Next semester our core classes don't start until 9, but some people have electives that start at 8.

How many breaks do you guys generally have every day? An hour for lunch, fifteen minutes between classes?

Ten minutes between classes... assuming professors end on time and actually give us our break, which isn't usually the case. Then an hour for lunch. Last semester we had a few free hours every once in a while too.

We've got 10 minutes between classes, an hour for lunch, and a rotating lab schedule that might give us a 3 hour hole (or an early day).

But it'll all change this semester when we switch to labs in the morning and classes in the afternoon. Some lucky folks won't have lab until 10 some days! Lol

Same here though it's very rare that we don't get our 10 minute break

We usually get a break but it's generally more on the lines of six minutes or so. We had to get our lecture recording software extended past the class cut off time because we kept missing the end of lectures in the recordings when they went past. 😕

We have a bell 😀

10 minutes between classes and our professors try really hard to give us the full 10 minutes, although that doesn't always happen. We technically get 80 minutes for lunch because classes before lunch end 10 minutes before the next hour while classes after lunch start 10 minutes after the hour. A lot of people use that time to go home and nap or relax. Many also use it to study.

We have a bell 😀
A bell is honestly a great idea, that way professors are reminded when class is over and everyone is on the same page. I don't like when professors go over, I think those 10 minute breaks are important and I don't like the (unintentional) implication that you shouldn't mind taking cuts to your free time just to learn some extra crammed in information.
