Class of 2020... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I knew you were bad, but not this bad 😛

Oh wait, you were the one who turned in VMCAS like an hour before it was due, weren't you? How did I forget this
Yes lol
I also turned in several assignments late last semester (with no consequences so whatever) that I'd known about for the entire semester and could have done months earlier
Both of my big presentations this semester were done the night before I was giving them...like start to finish.
I could go on and on

Open House most of the day yesterday
Required drinking with friends
Necropsy lab this morning
Filming for our infectious disease project
3 hour nap
And then tonight I've been working on a short presentation while watching Letterkenny

See, very busy 😉
You've already finished Letterkenny, are you rewatching all of Letterkenny??? I dearly hope it's with company!

17 done! Probably enough for today.

Add us to the list of third year classes who are done lecture forever 😀 When I went on medical leave in the fall of 2015 there was a prof who sat down with me, looked me in the eye, and told me not to try to come back... that I would never make it and should set my sights lower. I thought it was fitting that he taught our last ever lecture. Point made, and it was very satisfying!

Just determined that there's no physical way for me to take an immunology course before I have to do my preliminary exams for this PhD, which is potentially a problem since a big part of this project is immuno-related.

Hmpfh. Self-teaching, here I come.

Are you able to get a copy of the notes or whatever (what do PhD level courses even use to teach?) to help yourself out?

I'm glad you made it through!!!
When I got out of the Marine Corps many moons ago I was told by my CO that I was going to fail at anything I attempted because I didn't have a plan.
F those people who try to pass judgement without even knowing anything about who they're judging.

Way to prove them wrong!

31 modules done
Though I just realized the total count did not include the FEMA portion, which is apparently the worst/most time consuming part 😢
I have three more days...

Those were the worst. Esp the ones that only had like 4 questions, and they lock you out for half an hour because you got a question wrong. And it takes you forever to keep guessing at which question you got wrong and what answer it might be.... couldn’t care at all about the contents of any of those stupid modules.

I don't remember having to do anything FEMA related. Interesting

It's to allow us to get DART certified but that isn't required so I'm not sure why the FEMA modules are. Anyway, those are the only thing I have left now 😀

This thread was on page 2 again, for shame. Just finished the USDA modules myself, 3 days before they're due! One more week until finals, 3 more weeks until I start clinics! :scared: (Most of my class starts in 2 weeks, but I start off with a week of vacation for some reason)

One more final for us! And it’s SA surgery and I’m super anxious about it. Even though I did the math and only need a 60% to pass on it because it’s combined with ortho from last semester and we had case assignments that factor into our grade, too. So it should be fine. But also there’s 30 lectures on it and that’s a **** ton.

We had the CPE today though (and apparently it’s the actual CPE that students from non-AVMA accredited schools have to take and I don’t know why we take this????) and I’m tired and want to nap and not study but I can’t

Five weeks until clinics for me. Next week is orientation and then I have three weeks of vacation to start off 4th year. I didn’t even request vacation during that time and was annoyed at first about using some up so soon, but I’m over school and need it haha

Yeah, on one hand I'm nervous I'll be totally lost not being here that first week, but I definitely don't envy my classmates going straight from our last final on Friday to white coat Sunday to clinics Monday.

I'm sure you'll be fine! 🙂 And by then all your friends will have a better idea of what's going on, so you can ask them 😛

Week 1 is done and I'm sad because I really love this rotation.

My friend's cat tried to stress me out yesterday by being an absolute nightmare patient, but it's all good. Got done what we needed to get done, she went home and was still drunk from her drugs and it was adorable. Hopefully she doesn't hate me now.

definitely one of the hardest aspects of being a vet is that we love the pets, but they despise us. haha

I’ve definitely gone to see Avengers:Endgame 3 times instead of studying for finals. I can’t find it in me to care much
As long as you utilize the bit of time you are forced to care, it is all good. Gotta enjoy those moments of defiance about what awaits. haha

Finished with week 1 of clinics and I gotta say, it's been a great start. I'm a big fan of the rotation I'm on, the clinicians are absolutely wonderful and brilliant humans, and I have a great group of rotation mates.

The end of 3rd year burn out and frustration with the lecture hall life was very real. This week helped me remember why I love this profession.

Definitely how I feel after finishing my first rotation 😀

It’s been a rough week. First my dog on Sunday with the emergency foreign bodies. Then this morning I ran out of gas on the way to school. And then I’m on week 2/4 of spay/neuter elective and I’m just not doing so great. I’m probably being real hard on myself but I have had to have my skin sutures cut out and revised by someone twice this week alone. I keep making careless mistakes and my brain is just not in it. I have a day off tomorrow so maybe that will help reset my mind. -_-

I've done a whole 1 spay, so I don't have a lot of experience to draw upon. I also had to redo my intradermal sutures (almost twice) and I know how it can really take the wind out of your sails. We aren't all perfect yet, and it takes time to get your skills built up. You've still got over half your rotation to keep improving and become proficient.

I believe in you Rocky!

I’m sorry it’s been a tough week 🙁 I agree with teep, it takes time to build up those skills. I bet the next two weeks two weeks will go better after you’ve had some time to recharge 🙂

How’s your dog doing? I hope he’s recovering well

Sorry you've been having a rough time 🙁
Try not to be too hard on yourself. You are still learning. If you were perfect there would be no reason for you to be in school. I hope your pupper is recovering well.

Just had to take out a short term loan to pay off a loan that got taken away from me last semester in order to receive my next loans for the summer. And now I guess pay the first loan back.

Gotta love college billing departments.

Pretty sure I got strangles from a strangles horse snorting in my face multiple times while we were trying to collect a pharyngeal wash sample... Guess I have to be careful not to sneeze on a horse now

Already have to cross off the first thing on my signature. 😢 Real first day of clinics is tomorrow! It should be a relatively chill week, but I'm still nervous I'll look like an idiot.

You'll do great! Even if you don't know everything, that's why you're a *student*. You're there to learn 🙂
