Class of 2020... how you doin?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
All the best wishes for NAVLE for those starting Monday on! remember to take your breaks. I mean, I of course forged on and took one, but regret the massive headache I had after. haha

We are here for you if you need any encouragement either via forum or PM!
From those who have dun finished. <3

Thanks lupes :biglove:

20 more days :scared:
It really isn't different than any other test you've taken. Don't waste your brain power on ones you have no clue on, and use your strengths to make up ground. haha

Those lights with computer screen for those prone to headaches though are something to be aware of. Bring any meds you may need with you and take the break to take them if needed. Sugar rush is also suggested to put in a locker as you can rehydrate and carb load on them. 🙂

Oh, and you can't even have chapstick with you, so take a break if you are a lip licker too to rehydrate your poor lips in the dry season for those in cold, dry weather. lol

A good word. I am 110% a stress lip licker.

This helped a lot today to just know someone is thinking about us poor NAVLE-writers haha. I write on Wednesday and am freaking out a lot a little right now. Partially because this past week I was on an insane rotation and got maybe 25 Vetprep questions done every night :dead:

Progress is progress though!

I'm pulling for all of us who are about to undergo this. The end is in sight!!

That's probably more than I got done even though I was on a relatively light rotation. I'm sure you'll do great! Just being on rotations and seeing cases is studying, and more effective than vetprep imo.

Pulling for you all from the sidelines... YOU'VE GOT THIS!!!

I won’t comment on content, but I’ll reiterate that taking breaks was essential. I took 2 and probably should’ve taken even more. Also, you won’t know everything so don’t let a string of questions that you feel like you’re completely guessing on put you in a panic. Finally, I found taking an ICVA assessment helpful, but not sure it’s absolutely necessary if you can’t swing the money.

My NAVLE is in less than 24 hours

I am currently alternating between freaking the **** out, being eerily chill, and wondering why I didn't study more but it's too late now
You've got this SAR! I have zero doubts that you're going to rock the hell out of it!!!

Were the questions similar to the ICVA assessments (such as how they word the questions and what they actually ask)? I've taken two assessments within the past 3 weeks, both said I will pass. I've noticed that majority of the questions for the ICVA assessments do not ask "what is the diagnosis" but will ask the treatment, diagnostics, etc. and you just have to know what the disease is based on what is described in the question.

Best of luck!!’ You’ve got this!

you’ve all got this. Best wishes!

When I took the NAVLE at the end of 2014, this was how many/most questions were. Is got excited because I figured I knew what disease it was...and then the question was about testing or treatments, owner education, etc. So I’d be prepared for that.

Agree with @that redhead above

I agree. Mostly tertiary thinking questions. And lots of 'choose the best option' for treatment options which always frustrate me.

I found the questions on the ICVA to be closer to the real thing than the zuku/vetprep ones. Vetprep had lots of here's the signs what's the diagnosis or here's a diagnosis what is the treatment, but not as much here's the signs what are you going to do to treat as ICVA.

I didn't take any breaks, just powered through the whole thing. It was fine and I don't regret it at all, but probably don't be like me.

FYI, if you don’t want to drop 50 bucks but still want to get a flavor of what the official questions are like, ICVA has a sample set of 20 questions on their website for free.

Also, yes, take breaks. I took one after just about every section. And bring your fave snacks.

And y’all are brilliant and gonna be amazing. YOU CAN DO IT.

Don't waste your brain power on ones you have no clue on, and use your strengths to make up ground. haha

This! I read the question, and if it wasn’t coming to me, I just Eanie Meanie Miney Moe’d it and moved on. Left there by lunchtime. Classmates at the center with me that day thought it was because I knew everything that I skipped out of there in half the time. It wasn’t. I just spent 0 energy on questions that didn’t come to me right away.

Don’t dwell on it, and don’t skip to do later (and go through reading the long ass question and answer choices AGAIN). I promise you it ain’t gonna come to you. And the more time you spend reading questions you’re never gonna get over and over, the more frustrated and anxious you’ll get. And the less mental strength and energy you’ll have for the ones you should be able to figure out. Remember, you can get a huge percentage of these questions wrong and you’ll still pass, so no biggie. Hell, knowing that, I didn’t even study any of the large animal toxicities because it was going to be too much mental capacity I didn’t want to waste. Automatically randomly selected answers for those, or picked one that sounded good. Didn’t even read the full question. Maximize the points on the stuff you do know.

If anyone needs a last minute pep talk, feel free to message me!

Truly, it wasn't even half as bad as I thought it was going to be (still difficult, but not a monster). I have no idea if I passed but I feel pretty good coming out the other side!
I hope I feel the same when I come out of it next week! :dead:

Drink a whole bottle of wine and start crying when they introduce Old Jack on Eight Below.

At least that's what I did
Do I need to be Canadian to understand this?

Can anyone translate? I have no clue whats going on here

Do I need to be Canadian to understand this?

Step 0: Drink a lotta wine
Step 1: Buy Disney Plus
Step 2: "Omg 'Eight Below' I haven't seen that in so many years I'm going to watch it!"
Step 3: 10 minutes in, remember the plot and cry like a child every time they introduce a dog because you know what happens and wine + navle makes you emotional

I have, hopefully, made the formula more clear to be better followed.

Just change the crying to the end of the movie if you haven't seen it before. 😉

Taking my NAVLE tomorrow.... Kind of freaking out about it. Not sure what else I can do! I took a self-assessment and I was in the passing range. Hopefully my score will reflect that as well. :xf:
Take your breaks. There's no real rush to it. I should have brought something to snack on. A positive mental attitude goes a long way too!
Good luck tomorrow!!

Good luck! I took it today, I definitely knew some things but I feel like I was between 2-3 answers or straight up guessed on a lot of questions. I wish I'd brought caffeine of some sort, and ibuprofen, I had a killer headache during the last section from staring at the screen for so long.

Did you guys not read my suggestions?! :bored:

Glad you made it though. You got this to those still taking it.

Yes there were definitely some that I knew for sure. I struggled with some of the questions where I felt as if two of the answers could be correct... I’m hoping I was able to reason through choosing (or guessing!) the “best” one.

Mine's tomorrow :bag:

Mine is a week from tomorrow so I'm taking a practice test today to give myself time to cry about how much I'm gonna fail and then shrug and just wing it.

The downside to the timing of this string of zoo rotations is although I've learned A LOT almost none of it is useful for the NAVLE because they're not gonna ask me about cold stress syndrome in manatees or capture myopathy in greater kudu :lame:
