I've been enjoying every second of my 5/9 month hiatus from school. Seriously. I'm going hiking with friends, kayaking, I actually have a normal sleep schedule, I like my job. Like I do want to be a vet but I'm not excited to start school again. It's the end game that's the goal, exciting and what drives me. I think it's alot different having just summer off vs like more than summer. The first few months after I graduated I was still in that anxious state feeling like I had things to do and it was weird that I didn't. 5 months into break it's amazing. So yes imo it is the best part.

I'm excited for finals next week, to enjoy the time off from school! I definitely don't plan on doing any "studying" prior to starting.. I'll definitely still be working (picked up extra shifts to help cushion my bank acct. :dead:) but I'm excited to spend the time to self care and hang out with friends/family!
I already have tons of travel plans made for over the summer!
I have to pass Ochem first though :laugh::laugh:

Good luck with O chem! A girl I work with is going through it now-I encourage her everytime I see her. I know it beats many people down, but it was the only chemistry course that I got an A in [emoji28]

Rereading that post it probably sounded more depressed than it should have. I've got finals coming up so I blame that. I actually have enjoyed vet school a lot. Not like...the studying and exams and stuff. But the people, the cool stuff I've gotten to do, things like that. It's not all bad.

For what it's worth I love vet school. I am amazed everyday at the amount of opportunities provided for me. It was just the change I needed in my life. I'm surrounded by amazing people every day, and there is such a good support system! I've had my fair share of stress and bad days, but if you keep the right people around you they'll pick you back up and put you on your feet! And possibly keep shoving water into you when you're drunk so you are not hungover the next day. I am very grateful for the experiences and especially the people 😍 (it's ok to say nice things here I don't think anyone from my class will see this and ruin the illusion that I'm not a nice person 😉)

Yeah I have found my very, very best friends here. Don't know what I would do without them, can't imagine not having them in my life 🙂
 
Hello friends! I am so excited to be a vet student! I was accepted off the waitlist in March and this is my fourth application cycle, but it really feels like it’s the exact right time. I’m actually working as a tech at my veterinary school until classes start so I’m learning the ins and outs ahead of time. I’m definitely enjoying this freedom but at the same time I’ve been out of school for a little while so I’m ready to jump in feet first 🙂

Had a nightmare last night that I had received my acceptance letter but there was still one more required interview to do. The interviewer decided she didn't like me and wouldn't let me talk during the interview to answer her questions. Then she just shook her head slowly and said I just didn't have the technical knowledge. That if I really wanted to be a vet I would have gone to tech school to be an LVT. :uhno::wtf:

On the plus side, I got enough sleep in a row to dream... :soexcited:

Orientation Aug 16 and 17th. Class starts Aug 20.

I'm trying to plan when I should leave my current location and go to Michigan. How many months before school starts would you suggest going to the new location to solidify housing and get settled in before school starts?

Lucky. :laugh: My orientation starts August 6 and classes a week later. I don't want to get to my new location too early because COL is expensive but I'll probably move whenever my lease starts (most likely August 1). If you have to commute to the school, I say get there at least a week before to figure out travel time but there are others factors to consider too (parking pass, grocery shopping, insurance, finding a vet for your pet if you have one, etc). Whatever you feel most comfortable with

My parents live in Michigan. So when I move, I can move to their house and then I was thinking of going to East Lansing to find housing. My work is asking me when I am leaving and I can't decide when is the right time to leave yet. I don't know how long it's going to take to find a house..... (!!)

I have a job too and won't leave it until I absolutely have to because $$. Depending on how far the distance is between where you are now and where your parents live maybe your job can give you a couple of days/a week off to move some of your things and find housing near East Lansing. This way you can make money, find housing and move your things closer

I moved 2 weeks before school started and I thought that was plenty, I wanted to move earlier at first but I was really bored and lonely for those 2 weeks. But I would figure out where you're going to live ASAP! I don't know where you're at now, but if you can take a weekend to go look at housing that would be ideal, or if you're planning on living with roommates you might have to commit to a place without seeing it in person.

I just turned in my resignation letter to my employer. My last day is August 3rd. That will give me a week to prepare for the move, because I know I'm going to need that extra time. I'm driving down with family on August 9th, and moving into my apartment on the 10th (since this is the earliest I can move it). I have orientation August 13th- 14th, and TOLE (it's bonding weekend with my classmates that the school hosts) August 15th- 17th, and then my classes begin on August 22nd. I hope this helps, I know it's a lot of dates LOL!

1-2 weeks should be sufficient time to settle in. More than that and you are probably going to get very bored. Even during the 1-2 weeks you may get bored, although I tried to combat that by meeting a few of my classmates before classes started and actually ya know, doing things other than sitting in my house. Still got bored between the end of my summer job and the start of classes though.

Definitely figure out where you're living as soon as possible though, even though you don't need to move for awhile. I mean, I managed to find housing last year on very short notice (when my plans suddenly changed and I moved out here 3 months ahead of schedule) but like... that's definitely not a situation you want to be in.

I would start looking now! Or start working something out with someone in the class if you want a roommate. Last year I wanted to move to a house rather than apt and I was looking now, I think we found it in June and moved in 8/1! I give yourself two weeks, it seems like enough time to figure out if you are gonna need to get anything else before we start class!
