Multiply that by an international move and you have the current atmosphere in my house. We're vacillating between melting with excitement and full blown freak out. :nod:

I'm trying to move everything (including the 4 legged furball) in my jeep and attach one of those U-haul space pods to the back. My SO laughed her butt off when she heard and said, "you planning on doing the trip, what... 5 times? 😆 "

How're you moving Mixy?

@bluechis -- I moved from the UK to the US about 15 years ago -- that was not fun, at all, so I feel for ya -- hang in there!

This is one of those times I feel fortunate not to own very much stuff :laugh: I don’t think I’ll have a problem at all fitting everything I own in the back of my CRV with the seats down

Well packing everything in my little GMC canyon I can then I plan to rent a haul trailer to pull. The kayak might have to stay home until fiance moves up but we will see (he has the racks on his explorer to haul it). Buying all my major furniture there but I still have lots of stuff....

GMC Canyon... little? We are talking about the pickup truck that can haul over 5000lbs, right?!?!

Ditto on the furniture... it’s all the rest of the little stuff that is filling up way too many tubs and boxes :smack: Too many socks and Z has too many toys :hilarious:

Perks of my IS being where i did undergrad, I’ve lived there for 5 years and won’t have to move (hopefully) for the next 4!!

Lol IDK what it can haul I just know it doesn't have much bed space like my dads and brothers trucks on the plus side I get way better gas mileage than them 🙂
 
I'm still trying to figure out what the most cost effective way to move with my fiance, 2 dogs, and 2 cats from NC up to MI. I'm very excited to be moving up north again, as I was beginning to really miss the cold and snow (I was raised in New England most of my life.) My poor little Whippet puppy will need more jackets though. :whistle:

Hahaha, I’m jealous! Fairy pools (you have to jump in), Talisker and Balvenie distilleries, Isle of Sky, Ben Nevis! (Tallest point in Great Britain, some 4400 ft, (don’t roll your eyes Mixy)). You would think Scotland is more chill... but surprisingly home to so many extreme sports — annual world wide mountain biking competitions and surprising amount of water skiing, kite surfing, and sport fishing. Do you like Scotch? Also if you actually need an address or want to talk to some current locals, PM and we can sort something out — I still know some people and one of my best friends still lives there 🙂

I have a similar dilemma!! I have a fiancé, 2 cats, a dog, and a fishtank that i have to move from Indiana to Tennessee. We have decided to completely downsize in prep for moving to hopefully only bring one SUV pulling one U-Haul pod. We are leaving/selling the couch, night stands, coffee table, our bed (its old anyway) and the dining room table. We will have to buy new furniture this summer but having this planned so far in advance will (hopefully) allow us to budget and save for those expenses. I have a brand new dresser though that we will bring, along with the cats' climbing tower because we are all too attached to those! :laugh: If anyone has advice for moving a 15 gallon fish tank (fresh water with one goldfish) in an 8 hour car ride is much appreciated to :shrug:

Drain the fish tank and put the fish in a bowl with a lid with holes or a cup and lid? That's how I moved my one fish when I had to keep it with me for awhile (several hours) before taking it to my place. Depends how big your gold fish is I suppose. Also I'm no fish expert I have a terrible time keeping them alive.

I interned at a fish hatchery during my undergrad summers. Not an expert by any means but we transported fish in big truck tanks all the time. The biggest thing is oxygen in the water. We had battery operated bubble stones that we put in the buckets when sampleing and they were built into the truck tanks. I would totally recommend one of them. It might be easier to put the fish in a bucket with a lid and poke a hole for bubbler tubeing. Try not to let the temp fluctuate to much.

I'm moving with a 35 gallon fish tank too. When I moved down from NH to NC (16 hour drive that we did in one day), I moved with a tank full of fish. What I did was go to Petco or Petsmart and ask for a few of those plastic bags that they put the fish in when you buy them. I double bagged each bag, tied it off, and taped up the corners so the fish could not get stuck in them. I arranged the bags in a cooler surrounded by towels to help keep them upright and also help keep the temperate constant. I didn't worry much about the oxygen level because I've bought and shipped fish before across the country (with overnight shipping of course), but just be mindful of it if the travel time is going to be long. Also, I didn't feed them the day before I moved to reduce the waste that they would produce. Hope this helps! 🙂

You haven’t heard back at all from auburn? I assume you’re OOS because I’m not sure if they’ve done IS interviews yet(?) but if you ARE OOS I’d try giving them a call tomorrow because I’m pretty sure they sent out decisions almost a month ago for OOSers... there’s also a thread for Auburn c/o 2022 Applicants on here too.

Goodness lol I was just curious because some of my friends are pre-med and I don't think I've ever hit the back button faster in my life 🤣
 
So my dad just informed me that my great grandma left me $10,000 when she died and that I can use it for whatever I want. He also told me he would either buy me a new car (~$15,000) when I graduate undergrad in May or he will give me that money to pay for part of vet school. With this money I could pay for close to a whole year of school. I’ve never had a “new” car, the newest car I’ve ever had was still over 10 years old! What would you guys do, take the cash and pay off a year of school or take the new car?? If I take the cash he says he won’t buy me a car at all and I will be stuck with my 2002 Jeep Liberty till I can by myself a new car 🙄

Does your car still work pretty well? If so I’d take the cash for vet school. One less year of loans means less interest building and less loan money in general to pay off at the end.

It runs fine and I’ve never had any issues with it. The only thing is it gets horrible gas mileage! I know the smart thing to do is take the money but a new car is just so tempting 🙂

Honestly I'd do the car. Old cars have SO MANY unexpected costs I had a 2003 dodge neon until last year and my car croaked. It was well taken care of and everything. Literally no one has money in vet school for car maintenance, so instead of ending up stranded/in a tough spot due to lack of transportation I'd go with a car. That's just my opinion though😉

That’s a good point that I didn’t think of! I would still have the $10,000 to put towards school. If I don’t take my dad’s offer of a new car now who knows when I would ever be able to get one 😵
 
Could you take the cash and then use part of it to buy an upgrade car? So not new, but newer and nicer with better gas mileage than your Jeep? That way you could put 7-8000 on the car and the rest towards school.

I would put your money towards school. If at some point you need a new car, loans for Cars is about 4or so% interest while loans for school are 6&7% in the long run you're better to keep putting along with your current car. Also don't go buy a "new" car those things depreciate so fast as soon as you drive them off the lot.

Good point! It wouldn’t be brand new, probably like 2015 or 2016 model. Which is pretty new to me, haha

Did you take orgo and micro there? Those are great classes. I love Dr. MacLea's classes he's awesome. Dr. Reynolds may also be the only person in the world who can make orgo fun.
