I'm from the Chicago area and cannot decide whether to attend Chicago Medical School or Creighton University School of Medicine.

I know attending CMS would allow me to do my rotations at a wide range of clinical sites within Chicago (Cook County, Lutheran General, Illinois Masonic etc.) allowing for diverse patient population experiences, and it's known for above average board scores. I liked the school when I interviewed but I've heard mixed things about its reputation for what that's worth. I'm also uncertain about it not having its own hospital.

On the other hand, I know Creighton has a strong clinical reputation, I really liked all of the outreach programs available, and the community seemed very engaged, happy, and friendly. I know Omaha is a big change from Chicago, and I'm a bit hesitant about that.

The curriculum (systems based) and cost are basically the same so that's not a factor. I'd appreciate any advice or input, thanks!

Hey OP,

I'm a Creighton undergrad alum, I interviewed at both schools and I'm also from the Chicagoland area too! My experience in Omaha has been awesome, definitely much better than I initially thought. The area around Creighton is really growing with lots of new apartments, restaurants, bars, movie theatres, etc so I think there is more than enough to do on a free weekend. In my opinion, Omaha is a much more happening place than North Chicago.

I liked both of these schools but if I had to choose I would definitely say Creighton. I think having an attached teaching hospital is a big plus and the north Omaha community is very diverse. I worked at CUMC and had the chance to work with patients from several cultural backgrounds (north O has large Sundanese and vietnamese populations for example). CUMC is also a busy trauma center and is initiating a lot of nice summer research for med students.

If you have any questions or want to bounce ideas off of me, feel free to PM!
