Cornell University CVM c/o 2022 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey y'all! Just posting an update of sorts - the Cornell Vet financial aid tracking page is up and running - you just insert your login info from your regular tracking page (where you accept your offer and such). Financial aid info (FAFSA, CSSProfile*, etc) are due by Feb 1st if you want to receive a potential financial aid package offer from Cornell by March 15th-ishhhh** aka before the April deadline to accept offers.

*I've never heard of this before 😵 and going to start this one tomorrow, anyone know if this is just as extensive as the FAFSA? I just submitted mine today.

**Stalked prior forums lol Mwa hahahhahahahaha
Former Cornell UG here. CSS Profile sucks worse than the FAFSA. Plan accordingly. It's painful.

Ahhhhh darn -______- okay. XD Thanks for the heads-up!!

Is anyone else's FASFA not showing as received? I submitted my FASFA for Cornell a little over a month ago (I'm sure I used the correct code)

I’m in the same boat. I submitted mine on October and is not showing as received.

I remember that last year there was a delay in the FAFSA transferring to our portal. I went to an information session at the end of January or beginning of February and it took a couple of weeks after that to load. Perhaps the same thing is going on. I wouldn't worry about it. You could always ask 🙂.

I know it’s way too early to think about housing, but I do have an opportunity to live with two class of 2021 students next year... do current students suggest living with older students or students in your own class? I was hoping to find class of 2022 roommates to get to know my class but this opportunity I have is a really good option with low rent/pet friendly/etc... thanks in advance for your input!

I think there are pros and cons to both options. I live with both people in my year and in upper classes and I love it. I think it's great to have people around that are going through what you're going through, but it's really helpful to also get advice from someone who has been through it all already and can tell you that you're going to survive when it gets hard. Once the listserv goes out in the spring you will have so many options coming at you, and talking to people during the admitted student days will also help you get a better idea of what you want. 🙂

Do many students drive to campus? Do we pay for parking and how does all that work?

Some people drive, some take the bus or bike. I personally drive as I'm about ~15 min away by car. You pay for parking per year or semester, I think this year it was around 360 or so for the year, but that's specifically for the B lot by the vet school.

Hello, I am the Army healthcare recruiter that covers the Cornell area. If anyone has any questions about our veterinary scholarship feel free to send me a message. Can also put you in contact with current Cornell students that are on the scholarship to get their opinions. Good luck on your applications!

Random question to any and all, especially current students - was wondering if anyone was interested in animal behavior and if anyone had information regarding Cornell and this discipline?

All I've found out is there is a behavioral division? of the hospital where a doctor does see behavior cases, and there is one course on small animal behavior problems within the curriculum (believe it's an elective). But animal behavior is a HUGE interest of mine and has been for years (BS, PhD, extra currics and such) was wondering if Cornell was more active with this and I've just been looking in the wrong places? I'm also super interested in behavior signaling possible physical ailments, and anxiety......not just typical behavioral problem cases such as aggression. Hope someone can help!
Thanks!

Guys are anyone else's parents really frustrated with all of this financial aid stuff? Why do they have to fill out so much information if they won't even be contributing at all to my tuition?
If you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, inputting both your parents and your own financial/tax info is a lot less cumbersome. You only need parent data if you want access to the Health Professions Student Loan or consideration for scholarships/grants. My parents won't be contributing to my tuition either (they couldn't if they wanted to) but I think Cornell uses that information to asses the ability of people's parents to pay even if they don't plan on it.

I suppose there isn't a way to bypass manually entering everything for CSS Profile. Data retrieval is only for FAFSA. I'm sure my parents can resonate with your parents' frustration lol.
Yeah I think it was the CSS profile that made them want to throw the computer across the room haha, we definitely used the data retrieval for the FAFSA which was nice. But thanks for your explanation, that makes sense!

There's the Cornell Animal Behavior clinic; I believe that's the division of CUHA that sees behavior cases. A few months ago, I asked and my tour guide said that there were a few other opportunities in the area. But overall... I was a littleeee underwhelmed. Hopefully that changes after the info session! I'm also very interested in behavior so I wouldn't mind being updated on this too if anyone knows otherwise. 😀

OMG YES! My parents are super into conspiracy theory stuff (wtf) so getting ANY personal information from them has been like pulling teeth...they "don't like the government in their business."

HELLLLLP MEEEEEE

For the financial aid tracking page do we actually do something for the 'student data retrieval' and 'parent data retrieval' section? It is highlighted but I'm not seeing where it has anything to click on it.

I emailed them about this! It just means that you have to use them while filling out the FAFSA. If you didn't use them originally, then you need to go back, use them, and resubmit.

Okay, thank you!

Anyone know if Cornell will tell you where you are on the waitlist??

I read from last year that someone emailed and never got an answer

They will not. There is a ranking, but they don't release that info because that number changes alllllllll the time (because people leave the waitlist).

Along the same lines, if anyone in state decides to go elsewhere, please post! I may rip my hair out before April when I may or may not get off the waitlist.

Ahhhh okay that’s unfortunate! It’s okay though. I did email admissions just asking if they disclose spots on the waitlist and the reply I got was basically “Let’s talk at the info session!” Guess I’ll just have to wait lol!

Has anyone heard if they were staying with a student, for the info session next week? I'm trying to get my trip ready, but I can't fully do so without knowing where I'm staying.

I am going to the session this Friday and I got an email about the host 6 days ago...so I think you should be hearing any day now.

Those of you that have attended information sessions already... when did you receive am email with the details? So far all I got was the confirmation email with a tentative schedule several weeks ago.
Also, did any of you get to bring guests?

The info session just made me more excited to go to vet school. Not helpful considering I'm on the IS waitlist!

I really loved the tutorial PBL session. It got my science juices flowing and made me really want to work on actual cases. Trying to keep my mind off of it until April... :arghh:

Do they really wait until April 15th to get the waitlist moving?

I talked to someone in admissions at an info session and she said that it is possible to see movement before then starting the last week of March for the most part. She said there is usually a lot of movement the few weeks leading up to the deposit date and right after.

While I would love to get a call from Cornell, I’m taking myself off the waitlist because I got accepted to my IS school (UF, equally as great and much cheaper for me). Good luck to everyone else on the waitlist, I hope you all get called!!

Does anyone know what the dress code is for the info session? Thank you!

I would probably say business casual, but then again there were some people there last week in leggings and sweatshirts haha. It's a veryyyy long day so definitely something you're comfortable in!

It is a VERY long day, and you are mostly sitting in information sessions! I would say most people were pretty casual. I wore leggings and a nice flannel and did not feel underdressed. So whatever you feel most comfortable in!

Anyone knows if the waitlist is somewhat moving?

Did everyone (including those on the waitlist) complete the "Dean's Certificate of Good Standing" form? I totally forgot and it's due 3/15

Hey!! So the fact that you’re a NY resident plus your GPAs being as good as they are, you have a great shot. Just rock the GRE because they do weigh it heavily compared to other schools. Another thing I would suggest is to get some small animal experience, as I see you have a ton of dairy/large animal experience but no small, and Cornell LOVES diversity. Good luck! 🙂

Do you know what the average GRE scores for Cornell are? I can't find any statistics on their website?
They like to see at least 70th percentile I believe! Who knows what will happen this cycle though, I’ve heard that more schools won’t be requiring the GRE
