Anyone still in waiting status? Mine still has the red X.
I'd definitely email them. They got back to me within 24 hours when I had a question about mine.Anyone still in waiting status? Mine still has the red X.

Well, they didn't acknowledge that part. They were just like: our records show that it is uploaded now. So I was like... cool, thanks. What did they say about taking so long with the verification of the VMCAS apps. Just being nosy![]()
At CSU first semester is 22 credits, I believe the rest of the semesters are comparable. Just signed up for spring and I'm taking 23 but that includes a 2 credit elective. I commute 45 minutes each way and work an overnight shift (12 hours) as a caregiver, where I can sleep. Hope that helps.
I am pursuing shelter medicine and I can tell you that the shelter system in Colorado is very different from many of the other states. We don't have the stray dog problems that other states do. This means that we don't have the same number of dogs entering our shelters as other states (30,000 animals in some of the largest shelters as compared to 200,000 in shelters in other states). We also transport pets from other states to fill our shelters and to help with over population in other states. I think the key thing to figure out would be why Colorado doesn't support stray dog populations. Is it because of our climate, or because we as a state are more responsible pet owners, or is it because we have more successful spay neuter programs? Cool research! It's very much needed! The only real research I have done was for a class sequence in undergrad about the MDR1 gene in herding dog breeds and the mutation of it that leads to ivermectin sensitivity. Right now I am doing a pet project where I got a hold of the intake and output of all shelters in Colorado and I want to look at the success rate (so adoptions, returns to owners, etc) vs failure (euthanasias, deaths, etc) and the relationship with those numbers and how much money the shelters raised and spent.
I am super interested in shelter statistics because there is a number floating around out there that 5 million dogs are euthanized in the US a year. I have not been able to find the study that says this (granted, I haven't looked all that hard). I feel that in order to reduce this national number, whether it is 5 million or only 500,000, is to look at where money is being spent, why and how to make the system more efficient. Colorado euthanized less than 7,000 dogs last year (something like 6,943 or around there). Seeing as 101,000 dogs went into shelters in Colorado last year, I think we're doing pretty good. What are we doing right and how can we implement this on a larger scale?
Sorry for the tangent... lol.

For undergrad? That is insane.
Unfortunately there aren't really any unifying statistics for shelter populations, and I don't know how other states operate.I have definitely noticed that we bring in a lot of dogs from out of state. Even just working in the clinic, we've probably seen 15 or so puppies from New Mexico alone. Thanks for your insight! Do you know where I could get the statistics for other states? I got the Colorado ones from PACFA, but don't really know where to start with other states. Eventually I want to compare us to others.
O! No, that's for Vet school...I didn't do undergrad at CSU but I took at least 18 credits a semester for my undergrad, also commuted 45 minutes each way (can't seem to get away from that), and worked anywhere from 20-30 hrs a week.
I didn't apply to CSU, but I'm going to chime in here. They would probably view you more favorably if you had taken a greater course load or were working full-time, because it shows that you can handle the insane workload in vet school, but having had a lighter schedule in undergrad isn't a deal-breaker if the rest of your application is strong. There are a lot of factors that go into evaluating applicants, and academic rigor/workload is usually just a small component. If they ask in your interview why you didn't take more courses each semester, you could then explain that you weren't planning on applying to vet school at that point. If you have a strong explanation as to "why vet med?" and have demonstrated your commitment to and understanding of the profession, I don't think they could fault you for that. If you are rejected, no, you can't go back in time and re-do undergrad, but you could do post-bacc work or a masters to show that you can handle a heavier course load if necessary. If that's not an option, then you focus on improving the things that you do have control over -- gaining more experience, re-taking the GRE, improving your PS, etc. A file review would really help with pointing you in the right direction of what to work on for the next cycle.Ok... I wasn't planning on vet school during my undergrad. How will the committee look at my lower credit load and working 20 hours/week? If I don't get accepted how can I improve this when it is already said and done?
Application received. Now to wait.....
Which dual program? I applied for the DVM/MPH. They emailed me awhile back saying they received everything, but no other news yet.Did you get a notice? Or is this just what it says on your portal? I applied for the dual program, so I should hear back about that this week I think but I never got such an email/notification.

No, it was just a general confirmation. Anxiously waiting...The DVM/PhD. I never got an email though from the program saying my application was recieved... Then again, my VMCAS took forever to go into the system.
@ameropean_chelsea , was your letter specific from the program?
Anyone know when notifications have historically gone out? Like mid/late December?
FYI Looks like no one will hear back until late December.
"Hello
We hope to have first round decisions close to semester end, DEC 19/22.
Thanks,
Janet
Dear Janet Janke,
I wanted to contact you to see if you know approximately when statuses for the DVM/PhD applicants will be available on the portal system? I believe the website suggests mid-October to mid-November. Thank you."
And that makes the third or fourth school I'm meant to hear from on that day... going to be one freakin big glass of wine ready when I open my emails. >_<
No 🙁 but no rejections yet either, so that's good. I applied to 13 so I must be a gluttons for punishment. =pThat sounds AMAZING, great idea! They must be really behind! I re-checked and their website does say Phase 1 by mid-October, Phase 2 mid-Oct to mid-Nov... :/
Have you been accepted/set up for an interview at any of your schools yet?

I think the reason it's so late this year is because VMCAS sent them applications really late compared to normal.
Csu still hasn't gotten my application, although VMCAS verified it months ago. I went in earlier this week to ask Janet about it ( having received no response to my email I sent over a week ago) & she said they are still in the process of matching the VMCAS sections up with the supplemental.
Yeah I mean it could be a combination of things, but the VMCAS delays certainly don't help. Fingers crossed it all works out for the best!I heard a rumor that there was a major glitch that occurred w/ the VMCAS this year. It was something with the electronic date stamp that indicated when the application was set & it has caused delays. I'm hoping that's what is going on & not that a lot more people applied. I'm by no means a sure foot in, although I'm competitive. Crossing my fingers the applicants are a similar number as last year.

A.k.a, it _definitely_ will be pushed back until January.🙁
What? 🙁(((( I wonder about phase 2? I was hoping to know before the holidays lol! Patience....I asked her about Phase 3 decisions and she said they were planning on sending notifications by the end of the semester, but that there's a chance it will be pushed back 'till January.

@Fish pixie Where are you looking at for this? Is it where you select your application (aka where you click Fall of 2015)? If so, mine says submitted 🙁((I just looked again, they finally have my application listed as received. So there is at least that.
yepjust to clarify...nonsponsored is OOS correct?
