CSU c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also they don’t have “room” for even one family member to go on tours with us?! Not very welcoming of CSU, just saying!

Tours through the teaching hospital are a huge biosecurity concern, think about how many people are coming through with all their germs. Taking all the interviewees through a working hospital is a big undertaking, imagine if everyone brought a plus one!

Food for thought.

Does anyone know if there is a reason CSU doesnt have any interview feedback on SDN? Can any current students give me more insight to the interview and style?

They use MMI style and someone told me when they interviewed they had to sign a non disclosure agreement and not repeat questions to others. I’ve just been looking up MMI style interview tips etc.

From what I have heard from current students, when CSU started using MMIs they make all interview participants sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) or something similar. It basically has them agree that they won’t disclose the questions or scenarios that were presented so that future interviewers don’t get an unfair advantage. Most schools that use MMI format require some sort of confidentiality agreement preventing disclosure.

Thank you for your reply!!! I became so used to having paper from the GRE, lol. Very happy to hear this!

Last year we were given a piece of paper and pencil before the MMI began. Good luck!

Congrats to everyone who got interviews! Does anyone know if we are given pen and paper for the MMIs? I know some schools allow it and others do not.
I see that someone already responded but I had this quoted still haha. They give you plenty of paper and pencils to use during your 2 minutes of time that you are allotted for thinking about the scenario prior to your actual scenario time beginning.

Hey there! I’m a non-traditional student and this is my fourth cycle. I was denied an interview with WSU and denied at CSU as well. I am waiting to hear from Ross on their decision post-interview. WSU offers file reviews outright, so I plan to schedule that. I want to know if anyone in the last 2-3 cycles (including this one) have ever been successful in getting a file review with CSU. I plan to make an appointment with Dr. Delcambre to discuss improvement for the next cycle and I want to make an appointment with the dean (Dr. Stetter) to see if it’s possible to obtain a file review. With it being my 4th cycle and I’m an ISS, I’m hoping that there is some way to make an exception or petition to gain a review. Has anyone heard of a file review at CSU recently?!
Thanks!

Congratulations to all those that received interviews and offers! Wishing y’all the best of luck
My advice to you is to speak with Dr. Melinda Frye, she is the associate dean of the veterinary students. Dr. Stetter is the dean for the whole college, which includes the undergraduate students as well. Dr. Frye is the person we, as DVM students, are in contact with the most. I don't know anything about whether they do file reviews or not, but I think your idea of speaking with Dr. G. Delcambre will be very helpful for you at this point. Reach out to Dr. Frye as well, as I said. I think those are your best options going forward right now.

Just me being curious but does anyone know roughly how many applicants they interview?
CSU interviews around 300-400 students each year. I cannot say how many are IS vs OOS because they do not disclose that information.

Re Dr. Frye: Thanks so much! Exactly the information I was looking for! There are so many parts of the website that are easy, and then some parts that are completely cryptic! Thanks again.

I understand the cryptic nature of the CSU website. It's always been a little bit hard to navigate, but since they changed it to look more visually appealing, it's even harder to navigate. All you can do is ask the people that you think might know the answer to your questions at this point, the worst they can say is no! Good luck with your future conversations with Drs. Delcambre and Frye!

Anyone know any example interview questions for CSU DVM interview?? Not able to find an interview forum for them on this site. Thanks!

Since they do MMI format, no one is privy to the questions. They make all previous interviewers sign a non-disclosure agreement so they can not disclose the questions/scenarios. From my research about MMIs, they seem to be more scenario based, where they give you an instance and allow you to articulate or act out how you would handle/resolve the situation presented. Most websites tell you that simply solidifying your interview skills is great for MMIs. Answer honestly and earnestly, and try to stay congruent with your values and strong points on your application. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers, just responses that reflect qualities they are looking for! Very objective!!!! Hope this helps!

Have you been able to get a file review? This was my first application cycle and it’s looking like I will need to apply again. So I’d love to know how to improve for next time.

I am making quite a few appointments at CSU. I was denied a file review from WSU because I am an out-of-state applicant. This is my fourth cycle and I’m in-state for CSU. The one thing I can tell you for sure that will be super helpful is making an appointment with Dr. Gretchen Delcambre. She is the director of admissions and very responsive on how to improve your application. She will not review essays or LORs. So just have all your stats put together and an updated CV or resume to send so she can’t acquaint herself with you before the meeting! Best of luck! Applying for vet school is definitely not for the faint of heart! Lol

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Best of luck to you! This is stressful stuff!

Hey all! I’m interviewing this weekend and have lived in warm weather my whole life. (It’s 78 right now lol). Will there be snow this time of year and what all are you guys doing for footwear that works to walk around and interview in? I’ve camped in snow but never dressed formally in cold weather lol

The weather for Fort Collins is a high of 40 and a low of 25 this weekend with some clouds, but no snow. I’m a guy, so I’m just wearing my dress shoes.

I was at an interview last weekend, and the females changed from their dress shoes into comfy walking shoes. They interviewers realize that you’ll be walking a lot, so any choice in walking shoe will be fine.

I’ll be there too this weekend. Good luck!

Good to know! Thank you! See you there 🙂 and good luck!

Does anyone know if we are going to be given a specific time to interview?? or are we suppose to show up at 8 am and go from there?

If we’re interviewing early in the day, is it okay to change after or will we be expected to be in professional attire for all of the day’s events?

I had the same situation at another schools interview, and everyone stayed in business attire. I’m interviewing at 8am Saturday so I’m in that same boat. Had a 7:30am interview last weekend

Is anyone else scheduled for 10:30 Saturday interview? I was thinking about arriving early and grabbing some food/coffee at a nearby place if anyone wants to meet and join me! It might help with nerves before the actual interviews

Feel free to bring a change of clothes or shoes! After your interview you can change into whatever you need to be more comfortable or ready for the weather if there are issues. I wore sneakers through the hospital your last year because I didn’t want my suede nice shoes to get ruined with the biohazard mats in the LA area if we walked through them. Also, only the actual MMI part of the day is what you are being evaluated on. So feel free to be comfy!

Make sure you look at the times scheduled for the tours if you signed up for them. They usually pack the day a little in the morning. Just so you don’t make plans when you should be in another area 🙂

Good luck everyone! You’ve got this, I know it sounds dumb but just relax and be yourself. It’ll all be fine 🙂

What’s the cheapest way to get from Denver to Fort Collins?

Greenride or Groome Shuttle I think are the current airport shuttle options right now. They’ll probably be your best bet if you aren’t renting a car.

The tour for the 10:30 interview slot is at 3 pm thankfully! I’m glad to have a little downtime before

Good luck everyone! I’ll be interviewing tomorrow, if anyone wants to meet up just PM me!
Same! I just landed in Denver and am on the way to Fort Collins. I’d love to meet people for meals or just to explore the area!

I just want to say that I had so much fun working the interviews as an ambassador and getting the chance to talk to everyone. I only spoke to one of you individually (that I know of) but someone in one of my pods mentioned SDN yesterday so whomever you were, hi! I was one of the pod assistants working the interviews so I'm sure I saw everyone here but probably didn't realize I was talking to you all.

I hope you had a good time regardless of the stress you were all feeling! You're all finished, you get to relax for a bit now! I'm always here to answer any other questions that you have whenever they come up 🙂

Thank you to Dr. Delcambre, all the ambassadors and everyone from CSU for putting on a great weekend. I know it’s a huge undertaking. I very much enjoyed my time at CSU and hope I get accepted as it is my dream school. I spoke with quite a few fellow candidates and enjoyed meeting them all. Shoutout to nontradstdnt who I spent a bunch of time talking to and helped me navigate the weekend. I hope everyone else who was there had as positive an experience as I had.

It was great to meet you and another sdn member as well! I had a fantastic weekend at CSU - really loved the vibe and the student ambassadors were great. These next two weeks are going to be a tough wait...

Does anyone know how many OOS are accepted? I wonder how many of us who interviewed do get in.
We invited ~400 students to interview. We expected ~370 students to be there to interview (these are the ones that initially accepted their interview invite). And there were at least 30 people that no-showed their interview. So there were actually about 340 people there.

The incoming class will consist of ~148 students total. About 10 are the 2+2 Alaska students and like 15ish are combined program students. So, combined students from the previous interview cycle will be joining the class of 2024. So about 125 students are accepted from this new class of interviewees (excluding those that are in the combined programs because they are technically in a separate pool unless they are rejected from the dual degree program, then they enter the normal DVM pool, where they can still be rejected/waitlisted). I think that my class is like 10% wiche students, and probably 50ish non sponsored students? There could be more than that though. In previous years I remember the stats saying that ~50 are OOS, non sponsored.

I’m unsure if that was helpful or just a giant ramble.

Thank you so much for the information! It was helpful hearing that there were less than 400 people there. I just really fell in love with the program and campus while I was there, and the waiting is a lot harder than anticipated. Is it February yet?

It seemed like there were a lot more people around, but maybe some of that was because of nerves hah.

I also loved the program and the people! Itll be hard to make a choice if I get into more than one program. *dreams about student loans not existing*

Someone posted on Facebook that they found their decision on their portal. Can’t check my portal rn but wanted to let y’all know

I got an email today saying “admissions decision status update” but couldn’t find any info in the portal. It just says invite to interview still.

Did the person mention if it was good news or bad news?
