CUSOM vs. WCU-COM

Well you are right that I didn't look closely enough and I have a very minimal knowledge of golf. However, I have a feeling that attending CUSOM may change that. 🙂

You absolutely can't beat $10 (I think that's what joy said) for 18 holes! It can be a frustrating and humbling game, but as long as you have the realization that you're probably going to suck and be happy when you hit the good shot rather than pissed off when you hit the 100 bad shots, you'll love it!!

By the way, I think I have decided to attend CUSOM. Someone try to talk me out of it before I pay my deposit.

You know you won't hear any negatives from me about CUSOM!

I have one friend and one acquaintance that go to WCU. They both regret their decision to attend there. One of the two was only accepted to WCU, and he wishes he would have waited an extra year. I'm going to apply there next cycle, and see for myself. I'm a little skeptical though. It seems like the administration is a little iron-fisted over there in Hattiesburg.

I think you made the right choice.

Thanks for the info!

Are you thinking CUSOM is where you will end up?

Most likely, I got a very good feeling during my interview and I think they are taking all the right steps to have minimal hiccups with their first class.

I felt the same way. I'm about 99.99% sure this is where I will end up as well. Hopefully, I will see you there this fall!

I attended undergrad in Hattiesburg "Southern Miss alum", cost of living is dirt cheap in hattie, I think you can even get on campus housing at WCU for like 1400 a semester. Dude thats like 4800 a year for housing. Besides the one recently, tornados hardly ever hit there. They have been around a little longer so probably have things figured out a little better.

There is no married student housing at WCU, and no nearby housing that is safe. You will need to commute at least a few miles to school. If you live closer to USM, there is more housing, and if your spouse is considering graduate work at USM, then there is reasonably priced family housing on that campus. There are some good graduate programs at USM, especially in music and fine arts. Renting an apartment or small house for a couple will be $600 per month and up, depending on your tastes. The 'burg is pretty average for the region as far as safety goes. Mississippi's better K-12 schools are generally private. The public schools are among the worst in the nation. If you have kids and don't want to pay for private school, then you'll need to live outside of the Hattiesburg school district. Oak Grove is decent.

I had to choose between CUSOM and VCOM-CC, and I chose VCOM-CC strictly because I didn't want to be a part of a new school. You have no idea what to expect going in. Yes, you can think that the faculty are experienced and can try to minimize the 'hiccups' of an inaugural class, but, let's face it, it happens with every new school...
