Ohh so track 2 is basically for people who wants a guaranteed acceptance.

Both track 1 and track 2 students have a medical school seat with their name already on it if they are accepted into DPMS. Track one just has to jump through the additional hoop of retaking their MCAT during the year while track 2 doesn't.

Hello! So track 1 are people who are accepted but will need to retake the MCAT. Track 2 are those who have already met matriculation requirements and do not need to retake the MCAT.

Typically, the people accepted either have high GPA but low MCAT scores or low gpa and decent/good MCAT scores. Basically, one or the other makes you less desirable for normal medical school admission so DPMS gives you a chance to show them what you got 🙂

You just answered my next question. Haha. Thank you both . I haven’t taken the MCAT yet but based on my FLs I may be in track 1. I have a high GPa but the MCAT is weighing me down. . I’m testing march27 to have my scores ready for Drexel by april 4.

Do they help you bring up your MCAT scores.

I see. No chance they might superscore that section from previous MCAT?

Unfortunately, I don't think they would. It's always worth a shot but this is what they have on their website:

"Once an applicant is accepted into the Drexel Pathway to Medical School program, they must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.2 with no grade lower than a C in any course, and have a minimum MCAT score of 499 with no section less than a 123. If an applicant is accepted into the program with an overall MCAT score less than 499 or any section less than a 123, they will be required to take an MCAT prep course with the Princeton Review while in the program as part of the curriculum and retake the MCAT by the date determined by the medical school. The student must achieve a minimum overall score of 499 with no section less than a 123 on the MCAT to matriculate into the medical school."

Ignore my last question lol, you just answered it

Yes! So if you're placed in track 1, you're automatically placed in a Princeton course with your fellow DPMS students in the same track. By the time you get around to retaking the MCAT, you're pretty much set since you've had a bunch of rigorous courses AND and Princeton course to back it up. I'm still friends with a bunch of people in DPMS right now and they took their MCAT early January.

That makes me feel a lot better because I may have to retake while in the program. Can you find out how they are liking the program? Is it doable? Which medical school did you end up choosing, if you don’t mind

It's definitely doable to retake the MCAT and the courses you take in the fall over prepare you from what I've heard. In regards to the difficulty, I won't sugar coat it. This program is intense. From what I've heard from them, the program tests you in a way that you likely haven't ever been tested before but prepares you extremely well for the rigor of medical school. I will say, the success rate has gone up for students after Dr. Ana Nunez joined on as a member of the DPMS faculty. You can really tell that the faculty wants to help you and are invested in you succeeding. While being a minority is not a requirement, this program is built on the premise of helping more minorities become doctors. If you're accepted, regardless of race, they see something in you that they feel equates to a great doctor someday. It's up to you to seek them out if you need help though because nobody is a mind reader.

I ended up getting into Indiana University School of Medicine... I was in my DPMS dorm room watching a TV show when my phone started buzzing. Little did I know Phili living was coming to an end haha. I'm still sad about the people I left there though, honestly, they were the best group of people I've ever had the chance to meet and I'm super happy I'm still friends with them. There is a sense of family so even though you might have to get through some tough nights/weeks of studying, you have people who understand.

Thank you for explaining this all to me. You have been very clear. I love to hear that the administrators wants you to be successful Haha @ sitting in your dorm room. That must been the best call of your life. Atleast you didn’t have to waste money on a masters. How long before the program was to start that you received your call?

My pleasure! When I was applying I really appreciated it when I got informative and honest answers. Applying to programs like this can be stressful so I want to help as much as I can.

Haha I was in shock. I had made jokes about getting in off the waitlist after moving but tbh it was completely off of my radar. I was definitely happy about the money saved and still am since IU out of state tuition is 60,000 a year (gross).

I was accepted to IUSM 1 week and 1 day prior to the first day of orientation so I had to really haul ass. I had to drive home from Phili the next day, then the day after that I drove to Indiana to find an apartment and then stayed in a hotel for the week of orientation leading up to white coat.

Wow that’s a really good happy ending. That’s one hell of a story. Lol making jokes is a form of staying positive and that’s what you did haha. This just comes to show that anything is possible. I looked up IUSM minimum MCAT requirement I didn’t see any but their average seems high.

Any update on application status for anyone?

Does anyone know if the year in which you took your MCAT matters when applying to DPMS? Also, for example: if you scored 510 on a 2015 MCAT and got into DPMS, would you need to retake your MCAT before officially completing the 1-year program because the traditional process for entry into the School of Medicine requires an MCAT from two years prior to the application year (2017-2018), or does that no longer apply?
I would call the program and ask them about that. I'd imagine that normal rules still apply in regards to how old your MCAT can be but I'm not 100% sure on that.

If it's anything like last year, people will not start getting interviews until mid to late April.
Base on their website they do initial screening in feb and possibility send out denials if I’m reading that correctly. But yea, interviews are sent later. I was just wondering about early rejections

Yeah, I recall, but they still wait until around April to start rejecting people as well. Who knows, maybe it will be different this year for you all.

Does anyone know if you could defer to the following year if you were To get accepted.

A little weird but I’m pretty sure my older cousin is at your school! He’s MS3 though and he told me to do this program. Thank you so much for all your info even though you didn’t attend the program. I have 3.3 GPA and 499 MCAT. I already submitted my app for this program back on 10/1 and submitted all docs by 10/13, I hope I can get in.
But you mentioned something about being locked in? Is it possible to still apply for medical school this summer for fall 2021? Or will I have to attend Drexel’s if I am accepted into DPMS and able to matriculate? I’m retaking my MCAT in May and I will definitely score better on it. I am from Texas and would rather stay here because it is so cheap and I may not be able to afford an expensive school like Drexel.

Hey all, does anyone know if they still consider you for DPMS if you are accepted to the alternate masters program you are required to fill out an application for? I REALLY want to get into DPMS, and I’m just afraid that my agreement to enroll to the MBS Program will affect my application review process for DPMS!!

Hello! Applying to other programs doesn't influence their decision. I applied to both masters and was accepted into both.

Wow! That’s awesome 🙂 I likely don’t know him but it’s possible. I’m fairly involved in school so if he’s in student council it could be likely!

Yes, so if you are planning on entering the DPMS program in 2020 then you cannot apply for med school for 2021 since you’d need to start submitting this summer. Once you accept Drexel, you’re locked in to go to Drexel’s med school. My situation was different as I’d applied for med school in 2018 to start in 2019. By the time I’d applied for DPMS I’d already gone through my med schools application cycle and was waitlisted at schools. Even though I accepted Drexel, there were pending results for me at other schools already.

In saying this, I’d still start gathering materials and would even suggest starting your AMCAS application for 2021 once it opens. I wouldn’t submit it until you know about DPMS for money reasons but If you happen to not get in, you know your application is ready and you don’t have to scramble. That’s obviously if you intend to apply outside of Texas. I know Texas has their own system but I’d say the same thing in regards to that in case DPMS doesn’t come through.

So I guess long story short... prep your med school apps just in case and forget about them if you get into DPMS. You could technically apply and then rescind your applications once you get into DPMS but that’s a waste of money in my opinion ‍♀️

Thank you for your insight! I was struggling and thinking of what to do and this is great advice!

I’m a MS1 who was track 1, the MCAT track, in DPMS and also one of the TAs for the program. I work closely with Dr. Núñez still and some of the other TAs to aid in DPMS success. I can tell everyone that this year, the DPMS class as a whole has done well and is outperforming any other previous DPMS class.

Hi I’m highly considering applying to this. But I’m in a weird predicament. Currently I have an MCAT high enough that I guess I wouldn’t be placed in track 1 if accepted, however with a subsection that is 122😵. I’m hearing that you need a 123 at least in each section to matriculate. Would that still be applicable to those like me who might not placed in track 1, but with a subsection less than 123? I hope that made sense.

You may have read this already, but it doesn’t hurt to just clarify. It is a requirement to have a 123 in each section of the test as well as a score off 499 or above to be exempt from being placed in track 1, the MCAT track. If you do not have it, that’s ok. @Zooba97 has done an excellent job explaining things despite being busy at their school.

You will be over prepared for the bio section due to the biochemistry class. The Princeton Review course is 3x a week for 2 hours. Students must take their first attempt of the MCAT during January and are allowed a second attempt after that. The second exam must be taken by the end of march, and most people do their second attempt during spring break, the last week of March. The vast majority of track 1 succeeds with their score on the first attempt.

Ohh so track 2 is basically for people who wants a guaranteed acceptance.

Everyone in DPMS has a guaranteed acceptance into the school and a spot in the next year’s class. The only hard and fast rule is to get a 3.2 GPA and a 499 MCAT with a 123 in each subsection. No exceptions

Do they help you bring up your MCAT scores.

Yes, you are placed in a Princeton Review course and are required to take several practice MCATs throughout the year. You will learn how to study and use practice material very well because of the nature of the program, and so you can transfer those skills to MCAT prep.

That makes me feel a lot better because I may have to retake while in the program. Can you find out how they are liking the program? Is it doable? Which medical school did you end up choosing, if you don’t mind

I can tell you from my experience, honestly, it was the hardest year of my life academically, psychologically, and emotionally. I speak with the current DPMS students, and though I may not be able to speak for everyone, I know the general consensus is that it’s hard and draining. Remember that this is a marathon and not a race. You will have a lot of resources to make sure that you do as best as you can. You will be given a big, you will have me still and the other TAs, you will have Dr. Núñez and Dr. McCrea, and you will have the professors’ aid.

Any update on application status for anyone?

I would be as patient as possible. Right now the office is busy with the 4th years and their residency apps as well as the 2nd years getting ready for step 1. Sometimes what is written on the site is a little off, but you will definitely be given a notice on a decision at some point. It will definitely not be a fast process. It sometimes a very slow and very frustrating thing, but I can tell you, use this time to make yourself a better applicant for not only DPMS but also med schools in general.

Does anyone know if you could defer to the following year if you were To get accepted.

People have been given the opportunity to defer but that’s after they’ve already started. It’s usually for very unique circumstances. I believe that they want to make sure that everyone who can use the opportunity presently is given the chance.

A little weird but I’m pretty sure my older cousin is at your school! He’s MS3 though and he told me to do this program. Thank you so much for all your info even though you didn’t attend the program. I am from Texas. I was applying to med schools at the same time as I applied to DPMS. I recommend completing your TMDSAS, AMCAS, and DPMS application all and seeing what happens. I can definitely say that it is expensive over here, but if becoming a physician is your dream, then please consider this opportunity as an investment in your success and future. Ask yourself, “are you worth the investment?” I’m sure that you will say yes because you are.

Since DPMS is a special linkage program, you are locked into the following year’s incoming class at the condition of meeting the requirements of contract. You may not apply to other programs while in DPMS, which is a stipulation of the contract.

They do!

Good luck everyone!!

Wow thanks for answering all those questions. As to my question about deferring . I have already applied and I just had some things going on in my personal life that may mean that I may have to start next year. Do you have any information on that.

It is usually due to personal illness or family emergency that those who receive a deferment. There may be other cases that I’m unaware of. Since I am not part of the admission committee, contacting Thelicia Hill at either Tel: 215-762-4674 or email: [email protected] is my suggestion. She is the academic administrator for the DPMS program and can answer this question the best.

Hey everyone, anyone who recently got accepted to this program. What did financial look like for you? I’m at a similar program and I’m getting a lot of push back regarding loans... anyone else having this issue?

Does anyone know how important are the letters of rec? im a non traditional student and I am having issues find letter writers. I can get other letter writes such as the Chair of Anesthesia at my hospital, but finding academic (Bio/Chem/Phys) letter writers has been difficult.
