I just checked the portal and it shows a rejection. Good luck to you guys who were accepted!
I have an acceptance to another program, so I'll be heading there. I was just holding out for the DPMS program.

Same! Goodluck everyone!!

You should be registering for summer term classes. There are 4, if you have any questions let me know!

And if you arent on the facebook page and got accepted into the program and are going, please get on that asap! We share lots of info on there!

where do I register for classes? bannerweb? I'm clueless on where to go

Never mind, it was because my portal was not updated yet but now it shows everything

You got accepted?

Yes, I received the email around 3:20 with an acceptance. I called to make sure I wasn’t having a stroke since my portal hadn’t updated yet but the guy I spoke with said the email was legit. This just means there is movement so hopefully good news is on the way for more of us that were waitlisted 🙂

That’s awesome!! Congrats! [emoji847]

To those who got in, what date does this program start on?

To those who got in, what date does this program start on?

The program started on July 1st this year. It's usually the first Monday in July.

Just read this from another thread here on SDN:
Heads up for people planning on going into the medical college: Hahnemann University Hospital to close

Yes, this is unfortunate and super alarming news. I also felt super worried when I heard this. Those feelings are super normal for those looking at our school. However, what I can tell you after witnessing what has been happening is that this IS NOT going to affect the quality of the education and the opportunities for quality rotation locations during 3rd and 4th year, residency spots, or employment opportunities for the attending physicians employed by DUCOM. This is due to DUCOM and Hahnemann not being entwined economically. They have a standing contract.

DUCOM is and has been doing the most possible that this event doesn't negatively affect our education in DPMS and further on in DUCOM.

Here was one of our latest updates we received from the interim dean of the college of medicine.

"Dear Students,

We hope you are enjoying your summer. We are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead of training our exceptional students.

By now some of you may have heard that American Academic Health System (AAHS), owner and operator of Hahnemann University Hospital, has announced that the hospital will close. The finances and operations of Drexel University are separate from Hahnemann University Hospital. There will be no change to your educational experience at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies, College of Medicine. The College of Medicine is critically important to Drexel’s stature as a comprehensive research university. It is one of only 154 medical schools in the United States and in addition to its educational mission, its faculty conduct lifesaving research and provide clinical care to thousands of patients each year.

We have contingency plans in place to ensure there is no disruption to the education of our graduate and medical students and their hospital-based clinical rotations. The College of Medicine has over 20 other affiliated training sites, where Drexel’s 3rd and 4th year medical students already take clinical rotations for every area except pediatrics. These are available athttps://drexel.edu/medicine/about/affiliated-hospitals/.

If you have any questions, please contact your academic administrators and/or program director. We look forward to a productive year ahead.

Sincerely,
Elisabeth J. Van Bockstaele, Ph.D.
Dean"

I know this is scary and the future seems uncertain, but we are in good hands.

DPMS has started again, and were thriving and pushing further than any year before. I know this because I'm one of the TA's for the program. I work closely with the both the Dean and Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, the Dean of Student Life, the Dean of Admissions, and the wonderful faculty of the college, and they are very frank with the whole situation. We will be fine.

I hope this can help assuage some of the fears and anxieties that seeing that scary headline brings up.

If you have more questions or want to know more, please message me directly.

Thanks for this! Would you be able to speak towards the success rate of DPMS students linking into Drexel?

This past year was the most successful DPMS year in history with a success rate of a little more than 60%. Past years have been around 50% or a little less. This increase in success is due to the current director’s, Dr. Núñez, involvement and actively taking in feedback and implementing changes. The changes have positively impacted the level of preparedness to handle not only the academic rigor of the coursework, but also address the skill sets on how to study effectively, have a school/life balance, keeping mental health/quality of life high, and other things.

Hey, so I am considering applying to the DPMS program next year. Would anyone who was accepted not mind sharing me their stats via pm? Right now I have a 3.01 sGPA and a 3.3 overall gpa with two semesters left of college and I am currently studying for the mcat but my highest score so far is a 498 so I am hoping I can increase it within the next few weeks.

I’m also interested in the program and would like some information as well.

Hey guys, so I am in the process of finishing up my application for this year cycle but I am a little worried about if my GPA will hinder me. I take my MCAT next week so by God's grace that will be ok. But, my GPA isn't all that great (it meets the requirement but it's not perfect either). Would any DPMS alumni mind sharing what you guys thought they value most for their incoming students!

hey, I don't remember the exact step by step, but from what I remember: For Academic Area of Interest box, the option that you should pick is "Medicine- Biomedical Science and Professional Studies" and Once you pick this, another box appears that will say "Program" and from the list of programs pick "Drexel Pathway to Medical School, MS" Hope that helps!

Makes sure to fill out all the personal information on the previous page it won't let you select the program unless you do. That's what happened to me (I forgot the citizen part and the program is only for US citizens so it won't let you select it).

Thank You so much I see it now, because I emailed the program and the person who replied literally said: " I don't know".

If you don't mind asking how was your application essay different from DPMS essay?

Haven't started my DPMS essay yet but with my personal statement I basically just wrote who I am, what I've been through and what I wish to accomplish in the future. But I do plan to make my DPMS essay a little more specific with certain things I've gone through and how I overcame them.
I hope that made sense lol.

Hello! So I'm not actually in the program anymore (got accepted to med school like 3 weeks after I moved to Philly), but from what it seemed, they really value your personality and your potential. This program is literally built on the principle of giving people a chance that medical schools won't and your DPMS year acts as a trial run to see if you can cut it in med school. My GPA entering the program was a 3.2 and my MCAT was a 503 which are both mediocre at best, however, I discussed my trials and tribulations and made sure to evoke my desire and passion for medicine. I think that is what truly matters to them.

When I went to my interview, there were people from all over the country who went to Harvard, Johns Hopkins & UCLA, all of whom had these amazing introductions about how they did all these crazy things... I was intimidated and yet saw none of them on orientation day for the program. It's all about passion and personality at this point. Good luck!

Wow this was perfect thank you!

Thanks for sharing . I have a question please? I thought the website says you can’t apply to any other medical program while you are in the masters program. Can you just stop halfway without completing the masters ? I’m curious just Incase I get accepted to medschool while I’m In the program?

I applied for medical school during application season the previous year so by the time I applied for the masters programs I’d already had med school interviews. I wasn’t sure if I would get in as I was waitlisted at 2 places so DPMS was a solid backup plan if I was to get accepted.

Many people came into DPMS having applied the previous year and still were on waitlists/rejected from med school when the program started. So if you enter in 2020, your med school apps that were started in 2019 are okay, but if you didn’t get in in 2019 and you start DPMS in 2020, you’re officially locked in with Drexel. If that makes any sense haha

Oh that makes sense so if I apply in setter of 2020 for 2021. I could still get in for regular medschools for 2021, but if I start the program in 2021 I'm locked in. I get it haha.

Hi there!
I just have a question for you since you applied and got accepted to the program. I was wondering what date you completed/submitted your application for DPMS program last year and when did you hear back from them? Thanks!

Yes exactly 🙂 once you apply and are accepted (assuming you’re not ALREADY still being considered for another program) you are locked in once you start!

Hi! I completed on February 25th, 2019 and heard back late April about my interview. Then after that, I heard back in June that I was accepted!

Thanks for the info 🙂

Hi I’m highly considering applying to this. But I’m in a weird predicament. Currently I have an MCAT high enough that I guess I wouldn’t be placed in track 1 if accepted, however with a subsection that is 122😵. I’m hearing that you need a 123 at least in each section to matriculate. Would that still be applicable to those like me who might not placed in track 1, but with a subsection less than 123? I hope that made sense.

I was just reading your questions and came to a realization that I didn’t know they place You in a certain track. Who gets to be in track one. I’m just trying to understand the requirements before I apply.

From what I understand Track 1 is for lower MCATs. I heard average 490, but someone correct me if I’m wrong!

Hello! So I think that even if your MCAT is overall above the threshold that you would be placed in track one since one of your subsections doesn't meet the requirement.

Hello! So track 1 are people who are accepted but will need to retake the MCAT. Track 2 are those who have already met matriculation requirements and do not need to retake the MCAT.

Typically, the people accepted either have high GPA but low MCAT scores or low gpa and decent/good MCAT scores. Basically, one or the other makes you less desirable for normal medical school admission so DPMS gives you a chance to show them what you got 🙂

Ohh so track 2 is basically for people who wants a guaranteed acceptance.

I see. No chance they might superscore that section from previous MCAT?
