So I have been lucky enough to be accepted at Georgetown, Eastern Virginia, and two other MD schools in Florida (NC resident). I've pretty much narrowed it down to Georgetown and EVMS at this point and am weighing the pros and cons of each. I'm out of state at EVMS and Gtown's private, so the costs will be relatively equal. Georgetown has a great reputation and I like the curriculum, while EVMS also has a great hospital system and good primary care training, though its less well-known. Though I'm interested in primary care, I want to get good specialty training and keep my options open as well. I don't have a particular preference between the locations (DC vs Norfolk/VA Beach) either. What are your thoughts? What might you do in my position?

Wait for financial aid. All things equal, I'd probably pick Gtown in case you change your mind about specialties, as their match list is astonishing.

Id wait for aid and reconsider the FL in light of it.

Ive spent considerable time in both DC and Norfolk- I wouldn't be happy in Norfolk.

Congrats on 4 acceptances. Strong work.

I'm probably way wrong about this - If so, I'm sorry - But I had this idea that Florida was one of those states that lets you change your residency after the first year, at which point you'd qualify for in-state tuition. Am I entirely mistaken? Because if I'm right... The Florida schools would be better choices, financially (assuming they're public schools).

To answer your question: I'd pick Georgetown over EVMS unless there's some happiness factor that's making you lean strongly toward EVMS/Norfolk. Their reputation counts for a lot in this equation.

Florida's definitely not where I'd prefer to be regardless of price, so I've already kind of written those off. I really liked both EVMS and Georgetown and would be happy attending either, but still have a couple concerns about each.

EVMS
- Haven't heard great things about Norfolk (though I think I would be OK living closer to VA beach or in the "Ghent" area)
- Though it doesn't make a huge difference in the scheme of things, its a less "prestigious" school than Georgetown which may become somewhat of a factor if I decide to apply for a competitive specialty

Georgetown
- Wouldn't be thrilled to live in the crazy DC area either, and the cost of living there is sky high in comparison to EVMS regardless of tuition
- Seemed to be less emphasis on primary care of the community than at EVMS, which is also important to me

I felt pretty good about the primary care focus at Georgetown (Hoya Clinic, for example). I wouldn't rule out Georgetown over primary care focus.
