I WWanna Be The Very Best (Game Thread)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yup, n1 I suspected you were a wolf because I thought you were trying to pocket me. I almost did it again n2, because you were still giving me wolfy vibes.

Ahem... and sometimes you are just REALLY wrong!

You almost killed me! Luckily I had found a stupid yanma or I’d have died right along with my sweet starmie. I did get notified of being battled practically EVERY night, but I didn’t get any other notifications of actions being done to me.
I WAS WRONG. But last time I was right. So 50/50 😛

As I posted in dead chat:

Overall, I hope the players enjoyed this game, it wasn’t overly frustrating, and I loved that a lot of people came out of the woodwork to play. If you ended up hating the game because of its mechanics, I’m sorry if that’s what happened.

I was kinda bummed that the game ended when it did but c’est la vie.

@SportPonies put a lot of work into the creation of this game (as did I) and I truly love and enjoy co-modding with her. We will very likely be doing another game (prolly Pokémon) again sometime in the near future.
@SportPonies games always end with an early village win! I will always play them because I like how that village win feels

I had a great time. :biglove: Thank you, @SportPonies and @kaydubs !!

Pfft, I didn't ask for tot opinions, I was asking people who were playing the game 😉

Interesting perspective though because I have seen plenty of wolves and villagers claim death avoidance and get lynched because it is one of the easiest claims to make as a wolf and ya can't ever prove it. To my mind lynch avoidance is more common, and just about evenly split wolf/village.

The point of claiming the lynch avoidance was not to get her out of that lynch though. It was to hopefully carry her to the next day (and perhaps beyond), which is why i asked trout if she would have held her shot if dolphin had a better fake role name to go with the ability. .
I know, I’m just stating where my tot thoughts were, since you DID ask for the crowd 😛. But still probs would have lynched to test the avoidance and get rid of it, but when it was stated as lynch vs death it definitely seemed more wolf than village to me.
I recall more times when a villager has had death avoidance vs Lynch avoidance so it sticks out in my brain more. I know either affiliation can obviously have either of them, but it just sticks out to me more when it’s lynch instead, for some reason.

that's a cool mechanic. i figured it would have something to do with the battling.
Thanks! I was sad cause no one actually used it in that way ‘cept for people whom had multiple Pokémon. Everyone just wanted to revive dead players :smack:

It was my way of trying to protect people from battle blackouts. Battle efficacy also moved down in the order of things so all other actions trumped battles (much to my disappointment)

That's what I was hoping for. A little bummed it didn't pan out that way, but that's okay

@capri1722 used it, at least. And she was spot on in her role PM, dang. Just with everything. VIP player.
Next time 😉

And yeah, @capri1722 , you seemed to be in my head for like a hot second with how spot on you were that I was like :whoa:

This is probably a big reason mods were cracking up and refused to let me brag until I was actually called out on it

I actually was like so pissed at the waffle production that until I got a tally, absolutely no brags. You trounced us with the Ash thing right when we were considering a cover role for you!!!

Thank goodness I had just consumed a Wendy’s frosty or I would have possibly rage quit.

:biglove:Thank you both for a great game, I feel like we don't give mods enough love for putting the time and effort into running things :biglove:
Uhhuh sure, Melby. Sureeeeee

I loved this game ! Thanks @kaydubs & @SportPonies :biglove:

Am I still alive?

Mm, looks like I missed the last 10 pages. Sorry, I didn't think about the coinciding of this game's end and the start of my arse-whipping trip that kicked my arse. I always think I'll manage.

It was super fun, thank you to everyone that played, and to @SportPonies for modding.

I will read and catch up. Quick skim says I was right to vote Coffee?

Guys, I would never sign up for a game and then not be on for hours on end and not even drop a vote, on purpose, not even as a wolf. WIFOM as much as you want on it. I'll explain why.

Affiliation has nothing to do with it. I sign up, I at least want to drop a vote with a one sentence of bullshyte sheep logic if nothing else. It's how I honor the game and the players, wolf or no.

There's no reason not to do at least that much as a wolf, and not doing it does no one, myself, the mods, the players, any favors, so it's not something I strive to do, falling off the map. Not saying falling off the map means I'm always village. Just, NAI.

The guilt for the drop off in my play this game is real. It happens though, people catch up from a late start or they fade.

Thanks, much love to you all.

Thank you, guys! I’m glad you enjoyed the game! ❤️ Like KD said, I was super happy to see some of our more veteran players show up unexpectedly to play. As we were putting together roles, KD and I mentioned to each other how strong of a roster is. It’s really cool to see.
That's the other reason I wish it had lasted longer 😍 some players I hadn't gotten to play with in a long long time

Moar Pokemon!

I do hope eventually that a Pokemon game will have evolutions be a thing again - I think it was an element in trout's game but I don't remember if it reached its full potential

Not sure if it counts, but my role was completely centered on evolution. So despise me being dumb about mechanics for like 36 hours, I enjoyed it.

Ah I like that the people with abilities had to choose whether to battle or use their ability and then most others could only battle certain nights. I do think having battles go through after everything else was probably good too, even if it was less exciting 😉

Just clarifying, cheezit's PMs were permanent?
Did the people who used the bike get a hint that it was a protective item? Saw that question was answered. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned on thread when gwen and genny were outted. I don't remember the bike being mentioned at all.
What was your full order of operations for night actions?
So when I blocked koffee, that kept other people from being able to battle her as well?

And lol I saw you guys took note of stagg's dream ability too 😛

And the "I just mostly don't want this game to run forever" note...hmm, I think you jinxed it 😉

I've seen the "redirect onto themselves" strategy used so much by redirectors and I find it boring...so think I might make it a thing in my future games that I just don't allow it lol also sad Skilary kept cheezit from opening a PM with me. That would have been fun 😀 Also, kudos for redirecting wolves twice. Just so happens dolphin was doing all the killing until she died.

I love the dichotomy on reads in me. A few people who were definitely like "WOLF!" strongly enough to want to target me, and then everyone else was like "Nah" enough to not want to lynch me until genny outted herself. I've got nothing on AM though...that n1 was rough for her!

Thanks sporty and KD!! I didn’t get to play much, but this was definitely an awesome game to watch, and honestly I’m kind of relieved that I ended up mostly just spectating because it was much more complex and had a lot more mechanics in play than the halloween game (which was was 1st game ever).

Looking forward to playing again, and hopefully staying alive more than 1 day 😛

Nooby question—how do people use their role PMs? I just kinda thought “ok cool this is my role. If I have any questions I can ask them here” but it seems like people are actually having big convos within those PMs and I’m just wondering what they are about/is there strategy to that?

Usually there isn't really strategy involved, I just like chatting with the mods. Sometimes I'll use it to hold onto my more tinfoily ideas until I feel like putting them on the thread. AM uses her role PMs to hold her panic so she can still appear chill on thread 😛

I like writing complex games 😉 thank you for the compliment, and I’m glad that you’re not too bummed about being killed early. We’ll love to see you play more!

Yeah, Mel’s PMs were permanent. He only opened two though

I feel like the redirector ability can be pretty wolfy, and this was the most village way I could think to use it. If I had a better idea of who had what ability, I may have used it differently. I thought about redirecting genny or Gwen onto me, but I’m not sure how that would have worked for gwen, and I thought for sure genny was going to be killed the night after she revealed herself.

In this game I used my role pm to list my reads on players and who had what role/ability. It was just easier than having to search the thread again or open up another document somewhere. That’s how I was able to supply my read list so quickly when I was asked. I literally copied and pasted it from my pm. Sometimes I just chit chat with the mods too.

I thought the game was fun. I was way busier on this rotation than I expected, but I’m still glad I played. I just couldn’t resist Pokemon! Thanks mods!

For sure. Just from a modding perspective when it's used that way it ends up functionally being a block (unless kills are able to be redirected, which they aren't always), and I prefer its function as a weak ability seer with a touch of chaos.

Super effective = OHKO
Normal effective = 1/2 health damage
Not very effective = 1/4 health damage
Not effective = did nada

Nothing. I went, "I want to see Mel as Ash. His PMs are fun to watch."
So we gave you Ash and RNG'd around you 😛
Yay glad the types really mattered like I thought!! So much time spent of me trying to figure out people’s types
