Iowa State c/o 2024

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are there any current students browsing this forum? If there are what made you choose Iowa as your school? What do you like/not like about Iowa?
Current 3rd year student. I was offered admission both at ISU and at Missouri when I applied. I chose ISU both because it has been my "dream" school and it was closer to family/my support system. At the time of application ISU was out of state for me but cost wise out of state wasn't that much of a difference versus my in state (which I was wait listed at). ISU was always more friendly and open in my opinion, there are lots of great opportunities to be hands on and get to know classmates and colleagues in upper and lower classes. I really enjoy that most professors and faculty are so willing to give us learning opportunities and help where they can. While yes we could use more windows in the school and they are working on it, the school has done a very good job of updating to keep up with other schools and the industry. If you have any questions please feel free to message me and I will answer what I can. Good luck on your application!

I'm at a 2.9 science, so I'm probably getting declined

My cumulative gpa is gone now. Did that happen to anyone else?

I just refreshed it and it said denied 🙁. They said I won't have all my sciences courses completed by the end of the Spring term but I have them all scheduled to be completed.

Oh no. I would definitely get in touch. Mine still says in academic review

Do you have more than two courses left to take in the spring?? They say in the application requirements you can have 2 courses left to take as long as you provide a transcript. Other than that, I would definitely contact and ask!!

I think what is throwing them off is that my one class ends 1/24. I have orgo and BioChem in the spring

I see, I would totally call! Or post in the message board, that’s so weird

My cumulative GPA has also disappeared and my other GPAs have not yet been calculated, but today I was move to committee review!!

Sent from my iPhone using SDN

I think at a certain point they stop looking at cumulative gpa and only care about req/last 45 but who knows.
Cumulative GPA only matters insofar as making sure that you meet the 2.5 minimum to eligible to apply. After that, it’s no longer considered or used in the admissions process; it’s just last 45 hours and science GPAs from there on.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much about cumulative GPA disappearing, especially if you’ve already moved on to the committee review stage.

Oh good! I am glad it isn't just me.
Same here, lol came to this site as soon as I just checked and saw it was gone!! They finally updated that they actually had my application but I still have nothing for my application status or the GPAs. Just wondering, does anyone else have Dr. Monica Howard as their contact person and have an updated portal regarding the app status? I don't know if maybe she is just behind schedule or what, but I contacted her earlier this week to make sure that they did have my app since it still said none received and she did contact me and update my portal thus far. Just not sure why it is taking so long for app status to pop up lol

Dr. Howard is amazing and wears many hats. She’s probably really busy.

You guys aren’t going to find out anything until February. Try not to obsess over your portal too much. If you make it past academic review, you’ll just sit in committee review until they send out decisions. It’s a long wait.

Yay!! Are you back in committee review now? You don't have to say if you're not comfortable. I'm just curious 🙂
It still says deny but she told me to get her my transcript as soon as the course is over. So I assume so???

Still in academic review 🙁 and my cum. gpa is gone as well.

Finally in committee review! Still have no last 45 credits and required science GPA.

Iowa calculates it as 3.54 (cum), 2.97 (required), 3.79 (last 45).

I sent a message to admissions after I got my rejection for not meeting the required science GPA cutoff for this cycle and asked what the cutoff was this cycle. I received a response from Donna Groom stating:

Due to this year's applicant pool being a very academically qualified group, the cutoff for the prerequisite science course GPA is a 3.0. This GPA includes only the science courses required by ISU CVM (General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, General Biology, Genetics/Animal Breeding and Anatomy/Physiology).

Just thought I would pass along the info for anyone wondering.

Saw this on the other page =/. My fingers are crossed for you!

Yeah I’m expecting to get knocked out. It’s just weird how they are going about it

2.97 is so so so close to 3.0. Maybe they’re giving you the benefit of the doubt since your last 45 is strong? Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks! We shall see. I'm just surprised because I've been academic review for a long time. Maybe it's a case of they are waiting to go through everyone to make a decision
Edit: I looked back and have been in academic review for a month now.

My GPAs are finally entered and I am in academic review!! Not sure what will happen next though 😵

Mine were finally calculated too. I even checked last night and it hadn’t been so I guess they finally finished entering today.

I've been told that there are only like 2 people going over applications in the Academic review process. Best of luck yall

I’ve been in committee review since middle/lateish October and quit logging in until I saw this thread and I got nervous! But my cumulative gpa has also disappeared

Hi guys I need some advice!

I currently have a 3.8 gpa, but after this semester with ochem and micro I’m definitely getting a B- in ochem 🙁 one bad test and it being a point based class with tests being 400 points, I dropped my points down and even with the next exam and final I’ll scrape by with that B- if I get the grade I want on those. This will being me down to a 3.76, not a significant drop, but will earning that B- and a B in micro lower my chance of acceptance when I send in my transcripts?? I’ve had a few Bs scattered throughout but I’m nervous about having several in a semester and not looking like a strong candidate. If I’m overreacting please let me know! I have 2 weeks left and I just want to get through it with my sanity in check
