Congrats to those of you who got invites! For those on the waitlist, don't give up hope, in past years they've sent out invites up to a couple days before interviews if people canceled at the last minute. I'm a fourth year, I'm happy to answer any questions about Manhattan or clinics! The curriculum the first 2 years has changed a bit since I went through it.

So for those of us that didn’t receive any emails or other communication today what is the deal?

Edited to add: I replied to the email from mid October (stating Nov 15 as when we would hear) to ask about my status. Dr. Rost replied very quickly with my status and said the email was sent twice to my VMCAS email. Sure enough unbenknowst to be Comcast was filtering out spam and the emails were there. Dr Rost was super nice and went out of her way to help me. The folks at KSU seem really great.

I’m in the same boat as you! Idk what’s happening and it’s making me mad and frustrated

Alright but what if I have an animal with me? I will be on my way back to school from visiting home so I would probably have my cat but also be traveling alone...
You can email and see if they would be okay with her in a carrier in the conference center, but I'm not sure, you may have to make alternate arrangements.
What is the interview style for Kansas? Mmi?
It's a traditional interview, they mainly want to get to know you better and ask any questions about your experiences!

@justwannabeavet What day is your interview? I won't be in town the first week of interviews but I may be the second week. I could see if either my gf or I could watch your cat while you interview, tour, etc. I'm not sure exactly when we are back from our ski trip but let me know.

It’s on the 3rd!! That would be so amazing omg

Is anyone familiar with approximately how many applicants they interview vs how many admission offers they generally make?

Per the AVMA KSU college descriptor page:

Class Size
  • Resident 50
  • Non-Resident 60
  • Contract 5 with North Dakota
  • Contract International Seats 1

Applicant Pool (prior year)
  • Resident 111
  • Non-Resident 969
  • Contract 6 ND

Number of applications: 1,086
Number interviewed: 468

Not sure if the numbers are from c/o 2022 or 2023 and they don’t break down the numbers as far as IS vs OOS interviewed. Anyway ... class size ends up being 116, which is ~25% of those interviewed. But you have to remember that, especially for the OOS pool, they’ll over-accept because many applicants will choose a cheaper option if available.

Waitlisted for interviews! Just curious if anyone knows how common it is to get an interview if waitlisted, and/or what time to expect more news on if you've been moved from the waitlist?

I was reading through KSU’s 2023 thread and it appears they’re not doing the pizza party thing this year?

Did anyone get a confirmation reply after emailing to accept the interview invite?

There is a reception (which is the pizza party I think). It’s mentioned in the welcome packet! 🙂

I just received an email confirming that I accepted my interview invitation! It wasn't a reply to my original email to them, it was a separate thing.

Yep, same. Which is good because I already booked my flight and hotel 🙂

Hi guys I need some advice!

I currently have a 3.8 gpa, but after this semester with ochem and micro I’m definitely getting a B- in ochem one bad test and it being a point based class with tests being 400 points, I dropped my points down and even with the next exam and final I’ll scrape by with that B- if I get the grade I want on those. This will being me down to a 3.76, not a significant drop, but will earning that B- and a B in micro lower my chance of acceptance when I send in my transcripts?? I’ve had a few Bs scattered throughout but I’m nervous about having several in a semester and not looking like a strong candidate. If I’m overreacting please let me know! I have 2 weeks left and I just want to get through it with my sanity in check

I posted this in Iowa too so if you’re seeing it twice I apologize!

Hi! Does anyone know the Interview Day itinerary/schedule. My email said that my interview would be at 8am but I wasn’t sure how long the tour/intro would last until. The departing flights available to go back home are before noon that day. I was hoping to not have to stay another night at a hotel. Thanks!

I totally understand this anxiety! I really don't think they would hold it against you, especially considering it isn't like you are failing or even getting a C! The most important grades from our undergrad for this process have already been completed, so focus on doing well in the interviews!

3.76 is still a really good GPA, don't worry about it!

Assuming things are the same as in previous years, there should be tours roughly every half hour, so you can go on one shortly after you're done with your interview. Interviews are usually about 30 minutes and the tour takes about an hour, so you'd probably be done at the school by 10 am. If you're flying out of Manhattan you don't need to get there very early, it's a super small airport!

This may be a dumb question but does anyone know if the date of your interview is relative to their ranking of your application? In other words, are the candidates interviewing on the first day stronger applicants than the ones interviewing on the last day. I know that is the case with some schools

I would think it is random or like in the order that they selected people for interviews? I haven't ever heard of a school doing it that way but I could be wrong

I think its actually by height, tallest people interview first.🙂

I am interview the third and I am not short but not tall, maybe I was a fluke

I got C’s in genchem and B’s in orgo, and my science GPA was a 3.4 at best ‍Lol Applied to and got into kstate the first go around, and I’m a vet now. I don’t think you need to place so much emphasis on your grades, focus more on how you will stand out and be personable during your interview! ☺

It’s so hard to not stress about grades, but ochem is just not a class I have enjoyed! Thank you for the advice I’m really looking forward to interviewing! 🙂
