Hi All!

I recently have been accepted to WVSOM, KCOM, and CUSOM. I declined my offer to WVSOM and I have to decide between KCOM and CUSOM. I loved CUSOM however KCOM has the history/match list/ and friendly atmosphere that cusom also has. I'm also a little weary of required lecture and dress code at CUSOM. Does anyone have any input into both schools? Thanks!

KCOM has a huge alumni base to network and is far more established. While CUSOM will be a good school I think KCOM wins this fight every time

KCOM by a mile. I am wary of most places that have mandatory lecture attendance and dress code for regular lecture. At KCOM, they give you a fair bit of leeway to learn how you want. Some people always go to class, some never go to class and some people are in between. Not to mention the large alumni base, staff that by and large have been teaching there for quite some time, and a very solid match list each year.

All true, however from what I see, CUSOM's FIRST round of COMLEX and USMLE already surpassed KCOM scores. Should I take any of this into consideration?

Don't concern yourself with match lists. They change yearly and really only reflect individual performance, almost totally unrelated to the school. "Prestige" and where you went to school doesn't mean much in the DO world.

the safer bet is KCOM but i would trust your gut.

(I dont like the dress code thing either like most people)

Where does this come from? As far as I know, they haven't released COMLEX scores except to their own classes. The other major thing is that new schools focus only on the boards the first few years to help "legitimize" their school.

KCOM trains doctors, not board-takers. The obsession with board scores has ruined medical education.

I've seen many other DO schools due to certain aspects of my job and KCOM can only be matched by a few DO schools in terms of curriculum, facilities, rotations, match lists, and alumni (DMU, PCOM, CCOM, and MSU come to mind with OUCOM and KCU right there as well).

Especially seeing as the tests were designed to determine competency, and never as ways to stratify applicants. I guess there really isn't a good way to separate residency candidates currently outside of board scores.

But is t that thing unfortunately ? Going to a school that would help board scores as that's the main determine factor in residency placement ?
