Get at least a 24 and really sell your clinical experience and you'll do well here. They love non-traditional students with real-world experiences (whether it's clinical or not).

I'm giving them a shot too. 3.3c GPA, 3.0 sGPA, 23MCAT on the first one- waiting on the retake score. Non-trad with 10 years on EMS and military. Good luck everyone!

I'm excited to apply to this school. The facilities look great from pictures I've seen.

Hello all! Class of 2015 here. I'll chime in here and there when I can. Currently studying for boards, but I'm always looking for a distraction haha. Best of luck to everyone!

i'm taking my mcat in july and won't get my scores until mid-august. would this make me too late for this school if they give out acceptances in september? I'm going to try my best to pre-write secondaries so all I'll have to do is submit them once I receive the secondary.

I didn't take the MCAT until August 4th and my scores were finally received September 12th by LMU-DCOM. I was accepted at the end of November. You will be perfectly fine taking the MCAT and receiving your scores when you are.

Will be applying here. 3.42/3.7, MCAT June 20th. URM military with 10000+ clinical hours.

I wasn't impressed until I saw that it was 10,000 PLUS. haha

Best of luck!

Ha, well one place I was stationed it was 90+ hours a week (marines). I have a question, if I did shadowing while in the military do I include that in ECs as well? Or should everything go under work experience?

I'm not sure if there is a hard and fast rule for that. If I were you, I would place it in the category that has the least amount of other stuff in it. Strategery.

(well, AACOMAS probably DOES have rules actually.. haha. If you want the official answer I'm sure an AACOMAS FAQ spells it out-- but in the absence of that, work to make your application as balanced as possible.)

Well I put every different clinic/duty station in its different work experience as they were extremely different, so I have about 6 entries for work, all clinical related. My ECs I already have about 5 with volunteering and community outreach. I really wanted to put in somewhere that I shadowed the MO to learn how to do sick call and wrote notes and did all the SOAP at times, should I just put this under a work related?

AACOMAS doesn't have any guidance on that in the faq

It sounds more work related to me. Honestly though I wouldn't sweat these details too much. If you get an MCAT to match that GPA you'll be in extremely good shape regardless of what your ECs say. Focus on killing that MCAT!

Gotcha. That's what I will do. Thank you.

Cheers man. I'm actually sick of it here, way too many people. All my family are on the east coast as well.

Very nice MCAT, I'm sure you'll be getting lots of interviews. You're applying to vcom cc as well right?

Sorry to abduct but at CUSOM we have the true southern hospitality... even OOS 🙂

secondary/supplementals are up on the website....

essays are: In your own life, what experiences and/or people have inspired you to become an osteopathic physician and what personal qualities do you possess that will help you become a successful osteopathic physcian?
Medical school requires a huge commitment in time and energy. Have you prepared for this commitment?

It just says two "short" essays. The online secondary is open... I have everything filled out except the essays and I think I could submit it right now if I had everything done. When are we supposed to submit these?

DCOM wants your secondary immediately after you submit your primary. They consider it a part of your complete application. From the DCOM website, "After submission of the AACOMAS application the applicant should complete the LMU-DCOM Supplemental Application by creating an account here." They don't want you to wait for a secondary invite and say so on admissions talks, etc.

To all: Just be yourselves in your two essays. That's all they want from you. This really isn't a school focused on impressive CVs, pomp, or circumstance. It's a school about being down to earth, working hard, and working together. Don't be afraid to allow your true feelings to come through.

The second essay this year, about time commitment, really gives you guys and gals a chance to share information about yourselves that might be out of the ordinary. If you're an amateur stock car driver that is not only unique it also takes up a considerable amount of your time. Use this as an opportunity to allow those unique hobbies or extracurricular activities to shine.

Mine are filled out and saved, i haven't hit submit yet because I am waiting to see which of my shadowing LORs comes in first

I think it's a little too early to be sending secondaries considering AACOMAS is not even sending the primary as yet.

Do you know how many characters the essays need to be? How many were yours?

Pulled mine up to look and one was a little less than a page and one was about 1.25 pages. Shoot for concise - cover all the bases without being wordy.

My AACOMAS was verified yesterday. I have submitted my secondary. My first essay was close to 600 words. The second was shorter, just under 300.
I hoping for some adcom love.
3.33 gpa across the board (lower than I originally calculated).

I thought your primary isn't sent out until July 1st?

i think primary will get sent in next 1-2 weeks, but it looks like you can still send the secondary now before july 1st?

did it stop you from entering too many characters or anything?

I was not limited on characters. After I submitted, all of my formatting/spacing was removed.
The LMU website says to submit your secondary after submitting your AACOMAS app. My AACOMAS has been 'submitted' and verified, but not yet released. There is no date listed.

I'm pretty sure you get dental separately, but it is fairly cheap.

Uhh.. So I don't actually remember for sure if it is separate or tied to the health insurance but I know I have dental through the school. Not sure about vision.

As millions survive without health insurance, I'm sure you'll manage to keep breathing without dental and vision coverage 😉

Do we need to enter in our family/work history and volunteer info? This is just copy and pasted from my aacomas primary app?

They require you to have dental insurance as well as health insurance, so he/she will not be without dental coverage.

Not sure about vision (I have military health/dental so I don't use the school's plan).

Wow, requiring dental insurance? That's interesting

People have dental emergencies that can be just as debilitating as a medical emergency and interfere with school work (especially if you do not have dental coverage).

That makes sense, it's just odd as I've been in 3 undergraduate schools with no mention of dental
