LMU c/o 2027 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Current second year that will be at both the 11/5 and 11/11 events popping in!

Some tidbits and advice that I’ll chime in with as I am currently procrastinating that you are more than welcome to follow up with me on at these events

1. If you have been accepted and plan on attending LMU, join the LMU Housing and For Sale Page and post exactly what you’re looking for in a home moving here! Pet friendly? Fenced in yard? 2 bedrooms? Etc. I did this when I was accepted and instead of having to do the searching, landlords and realtors were commenting on my post and I was able to sign a lease for my awesome house I’m currently in within a week of posting! (As someone who has a private landlord, mine is truly awesome!) you’ll know who the good landlords are bc other students will chime in and say they recommend them

2. When you guys visit I really recommend you check out the area! I work at Gap Creek Coffee House over the breaks and I love the staff and the owners! Their paninis and salads are so delicious and they have so many latte flavors to choose from! (They currently have one called The Pumpkin King that I highly recommend you try when you come visit!). I had to shout them out, but there are so many other wonderful places to check out like Ike’s and Nineteen19!

3. There are some awesome students (1st-3rd years) coming to these events the next two weeks! Feel free to ask us questions and get to know us and the area!

I’m always more than happy to answer questions from prospective students! I remember being in your shoes once and I want to help relieve some stress and provide advice wherever I can!
Feel free to reply back to this with questions you all have! I know a few classmates of mine as well as first and third years occ linger on here and I’m sure one of us will get back to you
Thank you for your post. If you don’t mind asking, why you decided to rent a house? Sharing with other students? whart did you hear about university housing? I saw from your previous posts, you are from NY, how was the adjustment to TN? Too quiet? Any events, gatherings organized by school?

I’m currently living at the University Inn! There’s the option of both a 1 bedroom or a studio and it is pet friendly (I and friends have pit mixes, GSDs, and huskies and they’re all allowed). It’s pretty affordable and does include all utilities, WiFi, a gym, pool, basketball and volleyball courts. The one drawback is it is essentially dorm living so the walls are a little thin and you can hear your neighbors, but since we’re all grad students it’s pretty quiet.

I have pets and a fiancé I moved down with, so a house was a better fit for me!
I have friends who live in university housing so I go over there often! The apartments are nice for being college apartments from what I’ve seen! I have 3 friends who live together and each have their own bedroom and bathroom. They also have a larger breed dog that lives there and one of my other friends in that apartment occ will foster cats, so they’re definitely pet friendly! I just knew with my pet birds that an apartment may not be the best option bc not everyone loves singing and loud cheeps first thing in the morning!
The move itself wasn’t ideal. I drove a UHaul with my fiancé and my pets crammed into the front for a 17 hour drive. I’m from a small town in upstate NY so living in a rural area isn’t too different for me, and like others have said, often times we’re studying so much there isn’t a whole lot of time to worry about how little of a night life there is here.
The culture itself can take time to adjust to for some, especially if you’re from a different area like the west coast or New England.
People are very friendly down here! An example of this is when I was driving the uhaul down here, about 20 minutes away from the house we moved into, we got a flat tire. 3-4 people immediately came over to help us and a woman went out of her way to guide us to a local shop and spoke to the mechanic about our situation and he got us right in and got a new tire on for us within 30 minutes.
The school has events and gatherings and each semester different clubs and organizations are taking on more fun events to provide CVM students! SAVMA has a formal each year, a club is holding a grad schools Halloween event at a bar downtown tonight that is closed off and only for LMU grad students with games, music, food, drinks, etc. Your class SGA will have events based on what your class wants to see (Im CO 2025 President and I had an end of year BBQ for my class last year and we’re having a Halloween movie night this Friday as examples). One of my classmates decided to organize and start a Doggie Olympics event to benefit the local animal shelters and students and community members could bring their pets to compete! There’s lots of organization and student driven activities here, and the best part is if there is something you want to see that hasn’t been done, the faculty and admin are very supportive and encouraging in you making it happen!

I hope that answers your question!

Question about interviews. Would it be okay if I write down my ideas while I’m reading the scenario? Or is that not recommended?

I feel like that would be ok. I personally didn't do it so I'm not completely sure.

I made notes about scenarios and answers, I didn’t see any negativity about my behavior and had plenty of time to ask any questions. Good luck.

Thank you to everyone who has been answering all of our questions! It's been so great to hear from so many people!!

Could today be the day 🫣
It could be, but the last day to interview for the spring cohort is 11/7, so it's also possible that they only start sending out acceptances at the end of this week. The other thing to keep in mind is that they said that they would start by only sending out 10-20 acceptances first due to the interviews that still need to take place.

This is such great info! If you don’t mind me asking, what’s life like in harrogate? Would you say it’s a safe area? And are grocery stores/restaurants/malls near? I’m from a big city so I’m wondering how different life will be if I do move up there! Thank you by the way!

I wrote things down! My pre-vet advisor just said if you’re looking at your notebook a lot or the interviewer were to say anything you could just kindly tell them it helps to gather your thoughts to jot down bullet points 🙂

I jotted down some notes so I could rehash the scenario and make sure i got it all! glad i did so I could reference back because once 2 mins was up for me the prompt was removed

I believe the last day to interview for the Spring cohort is today! I put that I was interested for the Spring cohort and I originally scheduled my interview for 11/7 but they emailed me saying my interview had to be before 11/7 if I wanted to be considered for Spring!

Exactly so I think it will start tomorrow plus that's what the Q&A made it sound like too.

Also I just want to add, for anyone who is nervous for the interview, all of my interviewers made me feel comfortable and they were very welcoming! I get extreme anxiety before interviews or tests but personally I felt that the interviewers were very approachable and the interview felt like a conversation. I know that some people had different experiences but I just wanted to add this in case it can help calm nerves

Thank you so much! That makes me feel better

This is what I took from the Q&A. I am assuming they have some spots filled with the waitlisted applicants from last year. It sounded like they still had people interviewing on 11/9 that were interested in the spring class and they do not plan on “over accepting”.

I highly recommend i

The area overall is pretty safe. A few years ago the school was voted one of the safest in the country. Harrogate is very rural, there are no grocery stores so you have to go over to middlesboro (lots of students live here too). We have two grocery stores and a walmart. There are 3 restaurants in cumberland gap, I think 3 in harrogate, with most being in middlesboro. Lots of mexican resturants, fast food, and a few odd ball resturants like a pizza place and a place called shades which is a steakhouse and cafe. They recently hired someone to help promote downtown middlesboro and they are trying to bring more things to the area. Every fall they have a free outdoor concert series as well as a few festivals throughout the year. Cumberland gap has festivals all the time and those are fun to go walk around. We have a 'mall' in middlesboro, there is a department store, movie theater, belks, and a bath and body works. Downtown Knoxville is about 1.5 hours away and lexington is 2 hours away. Most of what you do in the area is hiking and being outdoors and if you want a more city feel or activities you'd find in a bigger city you would travel to knoxville.

LMU CVM Facebook's page just posted their very first accepted student for the silver cohort for class of 2027. It said she was accepted last week so it looks promising it will be soon for the rest of us!

Hello. I am here to help clarify some information about interviews, offers, estimated timelines, etc to the best of my knowledge. If you recognize me, no you don't. Just happy to help. All information is provided in good faith and to the best of my understanding.

  1. Due to the sudden announcement of the spring cohort, LMU switched up their interview format and they're interviewing approximately 90 individuals per interview day. Interviews started on October 17 and go through November 16, so you can do the rough math.

  2. This change up has effectively allowed LMU to do the bulk of their interviews this fall. Interviews may happen in January; however, this is uncharted timeline and it is yet to be determined. LMU is notorious for lack of communication so no news is not necessarily bad.

  3. The spring class has to be filled first which means fall only offers won't go out until January is filled. This is an educated guess, but fall only invites may not go out until the new year. It all depends how fast the spring class takes to fill.

  4. Not everyone interviewed from October 17 - November 9 will be offered a spring start. Folks offered must be 1) Eligible and 2) Interested. Those invites are being specifically targeted so they can fill the spring class first. The process is all the same except expedited due to the expansion. They basically have 225 seats this go round but with some having priority offer/early start - aka, the 100 seats for spring since the start date is right around the corner.

  5. Vet schools do not and cannot interview all applied applicants, so there are some who will not be interviewed as with every cycle. That said, see bullet 2. The change up and bulk interviews this fall means the school does not have a firm answer about interview days in the new year and will depend on declines/acceptances/other factors.

  6. Most schools iirc are not interviewing at present, or at least this early, so people who decline and choose their IS or dream pick may end up declining their seat, which will impact the fall availability.

  7. The zoom last week was sent to everyone because LMU will now always have a spring cohort, so it provided logistics on how the curriculum processes etc would work. However, the information was less relevant for those who have not interviewed.

  8. Denials (no interview offered) likely won't go out until they know for sure they are not interviewing anymore. That decision may not come until the new year pending other factors from the admissions committee and dean.

  9. Currently, there admissions only has two folks. One is primary point for communications with applicants and the other is busy with administration/internal processes. If you have reached out to them, they may not have responded because of the volume of inquiries.

  10. The November dates are prioritized for interviewed applicants, but interested individuals can contact the school to try and arrange a private tour iirc but see above point about turn around on communication.
Hope that helps. Will try to continue to provide what clarification I can to the best of my ability.

Do you happen to know if all applicants will be told when the spring class fills up?

I genuinely do not know; however, given the publication about the first matriculated student, it would not surprise me if they openly publicize when the spring cohort is filled. While they did have some plans in place in anticipation of a spring start date, it has been rubber against asphalt since the announcement because everyone found out at the same time - LMU included.

One tricky bit is the April 15 timeline and who needs to notify when. LMU cannot over extend seats, and I know last cycle the April timeline provided a lot of confusion, so I am happy to explain sort of the rolling admissions and April 15 deadline if anyone would like clarification on that.

Honestly any information and clarification you got I think we will all appreciate it! Thank you!

Any hints on when invites may be sent 🧐

i’m pretty sure interviews end on the 16th of November, and then they will send out acceptances or rejections on that crew, if they fill the spring cohort with the accepted with that group but still have room for fall cohort, i think a second round of interviews will take place in the new year. If they don’t fill the spring cohort, they could be doing interviews up until the day before classes begin in jan (they said this on the zoom) but for now, all that are being interviewed have already been invited, but they aren’t sending out rejections to those not invited yet because they may not fill either cohorts and could be doing second rounds of interviews as stated above. I think they should do an interview waitlist like AZ, that way those they would interview for the potential second rounds would have a heads up.

I’m interviewing Nov 16- so doesn’t that mean im only being looked at for the spring cohort? Or for the fall cohort? I have no interested in the spring cohort- only the fall cohort. :/

People being interviewed/ accepted right now have equal choice for spring or fall cohort 🙂 You can choose either. They are only doing secondary interviews if they don’t fill up both cohorts after finishing on the 16th.

So if I haven't gotten an interview invite I'm gonna take it as I will probably get a rejection soon?

Not necessarily, from what I have gathered from the Q&A and some current students there now from earlier in this forum, basically, they are not interviewing anymore after the 16th of Nov. This is so they can go through everyone that has already interviewed and make sure the spring cohort is filled since it starts like in 10-12 weeks. Once the spring class is filled, then they will start offering acceptance for the fall cohort, and depending on how that fills up they said they will interview some more people in Jan. So you still have a chance! Also, some current students, if you look back on previous pages, say they will not send out rejections usually until much later in the year.

So are the people getting Spring offers not also getting the option to start in the Fall?

They are sending out the first acceptances to people who are 1) eligible to start in January & 2) said they were interested in January in the survey they sent us. However, if you get an acceptance, you will be able to choose wether you want to start in the Spring or Fall. Once the Spring has been filled, they’ll start accepting the people who said they were interested in the fall.

Congratulations!!! Was is emailed to you? It’ll be interesting to see how many people get notifications today and if it’s all day long?!?

In the form I didn’t select Spring because I live in another country and it’s too short notice, plus I want to hear back from other schools before making a decision. I’m kind of regretting it though knowing now that I’ll have to wait longer to hear back😭

I'm assuming you all are eligible for Spring? I'm not eligible for spring and interviewed on the 17th and haven't heard back so I'm assuming only fall eligible will hear back later.

Those accepted are you planning on saying yes to the Spring cohort if you are eligible?
