I received an e-mail from Maryland stating that once I fill out the application and send it to them, then they will schedule an interview with me. Here is exactly what it said:

"Return the completed form to our office, via FAX or via US mail (see contact information details below), within one week. As soon as you return the application, we will acknowledge its receipt and schedule an interview appointment for you."

Does mean that I will get an interview? Or does it mean I may get an interview? Thanks guys/gals! :) :)

Sounds like you got an interview to me. The wording at the end suggests to me that they pick an interview date for you and you go to the one they schedule for you. Have fun and congrats.

i got the same message today. it sounds like we will definitely be interviewed. good luck!

When did you guys send application in? thanks

I sent my AADSAS application in on May 16th or thereabouts, and sent my money in immediately after, before they had the chance to send me a postcard. It is important to be aware of which schools don't mind you sending them money as soon as the AADSAS is sent. Don't be shy---just give them a call and ask, or check the school's web-page.

i applied around the same time. my aadsas number is 300.

Is Maryland sem-private? It seems like a lot of non-Maryland residents get accepted to the school? Same thing with Indiana and Michigan.

mcataz, maybe you should change your name to dataz???

I think they are sem-private, I know alot of non res students who got in as well

for those of you who received an invite to interview at umd, how long did it take after you sent your supplemental before you were given a date? thanks

How long did it take you to get the secondaries after you file the application?

Please remember to post interview feedbacks.

I faxed my supp. over and received my date 2 days later.

i faxed mine over as well last week but have yet to hear anything. did they e-mail you? when is your interview scheduled?

i faxed my supp on the morning of the 8th and got my letter for interview on the 11th. My interview is for october 15th, and i'll definitely do my part on the interview feedback forum. I dunno, if I were you I'd prolly give the office a call to see what's going on with your application. Hope everything goes well!

i had faxed my supplementary to maryland and i got a response in about 4 days. it's a pretty quick turnaround... =) they send you a packet in the mail outlining everything.

i have my interview scheduled for sept. 24 and i'm looking forward to it!

if anyone has an interview before that, please PM and tell me how you're going to prepare, and how it goes! thanks!

Are you guys all residents of maryland?

Hey there, I know that there is now a section for dental school interview feedback at SDN, but last year's cycle, they didn't. So you may want to search the pre-dental board for "Maryland <or any school> interview feedback" I know I and some others posted about this school and some others as well.

good luck!

EDIT: I found it. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/sho...d=46205&highlight=maryland+interview+feedback

No, I m a CA resident.
But UMaryaland accepts many out-of-state students.

i'm a maryland resident...
but ecodesit is right, maryland does accept many out of staters

For those of us who are applying to maryland,
it is awesome that their new building will be done in 2 years
which means we will be the first to use it during our clinicals.

Hey guys,

Does anybody know if your residency status automatically changes to in-state after the 2nd year, if you start a state school as non-resisent status. I'm applying to U MD but I a Virginia resident.

Right on, I am a Virginia resident, too. Sorry, but I do not know the answer to your question. I would like to know the answer as well, though. Where in Virginia?

i'm not sure about the residency status for maryland, but when i filled out the secondary form, it asked a series of 9 questions. i am under the impression that you have to qualify for all of the questions in order to be considered a resident. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

the questions included (the one's that i felt most important):
a) if you were living in maryland for educational purposes
b) do you possess a md drivers' liscense
c) are you regsistered to vote
d) are your vehicles registered in md
e) do you payed md income taxes (if your an independant)

of course if you're a dependant on your parents it my be harder for you to establish residency.

there may be some loops holes in order to get around it to change your residency after a year, but i think it might be pretty difficult...

here's a link to the UMD mba program change of residency form. (i couldn't find one for the dental school)

LINKY

O, so sad that I dont qualify for any of the questions.
But, when we are studying, couldnt we change our residency?
Does anyone know how much net cost will be for resident? and for non-resident?

You know, I never really thought about it before, but that certainly does seem logical doesn't it?---to go to school in some state for a while such that your residency status changes. I doubt, however, that this is the case. A good friend of mine went to an out-of-state school and his status never changed. Would that not defeat the purpose of accepting out-of-staters to get the huge tuition, to then change their status to in-state and get less money in taxes. It seems like every student would benefit extrordinarily, but the schools would not at all. I think simply going to the school is not a good enough qualifying factor, which possibly explains why more than one question must be answered in endoposse10s previous post in addition to question a):"a) if you were living in maryland for educational purposes." Interesting thought, and I wonder if status does change---that would be great

i thought they like us to change our resident status, since they want their students to work in their state, right? I donno, just a logical answer.

I think some people dont change due to their future plan to go back to their original state to practice.

so anyone else get interview to maryland?
if you have one, do you mind sharing your stat, too?

i received an interview invite a week or two ago for oct 16th. i have a 3.6 overall/3.6 sci gpa, a 21/18 dat, a master's degree and 2 years research experience.

Many states have laws which prevent the student from changing residency status AFTER he has already enrolled.

Meaning, you can move to a state, become a resident and then being school with resident tuition and other benefits, but you can NOT change from non-resident to resident when you begin your second year simply because you were a non-resident when you matriculated.

In other words, many states mandate that your resident classification will stay with you throughout your schooling.

Other states don't have this law, so it is a good thing to look into.

just visited UMB. It is a great facility. Again with the new building and new facility be done in 2 years. If I get in, I will get some new tools to work with.

just hope i will get an interview here.

just got an email from UMB...

So anyone has done interview with UMB yet?

i'm still waiting to hear from anyone's interview experience as well! i've checked the interview database... but i can't seem to find any at all for BCDS :(

mine is sept 24... anyone else on the same day? i'll let you guys know how it goes.

Type in "Maryland interview feedback" in the search engine and you will find one by RSXer among others in the archived threads. They posted in the days before "dental interview feebacK" existed.

I have an interview for Sept. 24. See you there endposse10! I am an out of stater (washington). GPA 3.5, DAT AA22, PAT20. MS degree. Audiologist switching my career. Best wishes to everyone.

Swim:)

hi, swiminh2o

what r ur reasons to switch career?

audiology is a good field but it is heavily based in diagnostic hearing and balance evaluations. these can be very interesting but after the test, they are often referred back to their primary doc. or ENT. I treat some with hearing aids but this is not a perfect solution. I want to be able to diagnosis and treat people and have them walk out of the office completely fixed and satisfied. I feel that this can be done with dentistry. You can diagnose, treat, whatever, to get the patient better. I realize referrals to specialists are needed on occasion but I want to be able to do most of it myself. I am also drawn to the lifestyle. I have four young kids and want to go to the ball games, piano recitals etc. I don't have the autonomy right now like I will enjoy as a dentist to dictate my schedule. I am a hands on kinda person too. I guess I am a bit of a late bloomer figuring out what I want to be when I grow up. I am excited to be a dentist. It's going to be great.:D

Just got an email from Maryland. Here's my question: when I fax them back my form, will they assign me a date or can I choose one myself?

they'll give you a tentative date, and all you need to do is confirm it. however, i think if you try and change it, you may have to choose a later date.

How is Baltimore as a place to live? This is really one of my main concerns with Maryland and I really wish the dental school was in College Park. I'm not a big fan of big cities, but how does Baltimore compare?

What specifically do you want to know about Baltimore? I'm a senior at Johns Hopkins (which is like a ten minute drive North from the dental school), so I'm going on my fourth year here, and I really like it. There is so much culturally going on in the Inner Harbor area and Fells Point. Not on the same scale as New York City, but there is still much to do. And the school is close enough to the commercial area that it should feel pretty safe. The area between Hopkins undergrad and the dental school, and the area to the west towards Hopkins Hospital are bad areas to be in at night. As long as you avoid them and use common sense, there shouldn't be too much trouble. There are a few other colleges right in that area too, so hopefully the colleges have their own patrols around the area. Not sure if I gave you what you wanted specifically. If you want anymore info, just let me know!

UMB is not in college park!!
rather it is really in baltimore.
the area is quite nice.
near the harbor and two stadiums(ravens and oreole)
i went there last week, the summer weather is very nice.
read my past msg to know more.

I know, but I wish it was in college park. I'm thinking of not going to my Maryland interview.
