Hey guys,

I submitted my primary day 1, had it verified soon after, received 2ndaries from many schools.. but no MSU..

Any ideas? I got one last year even. 3.3/29Q, super upgraded ECs

That's weird because in the email from MSU they stated they sent the secondaries to everyone.

They are sending them out in batches, I didn't get mine until a week after the first ones got sent out. Don't worry, you will get one 🙂

I got that email about the photos and LOR this morning from MSUCOM Admissions, however i have not received a secondary and was only verified by AACOMAS yesterday, july 10. Weird? odd? no way could i have gotten a secondary that fast? maybe? i checked spam and other emial accounts and nothing there....thought it was strange that i received that email without receiving a secondary invite.

They send secondaries out in batches but they send that email to all of their applicants. You will receive a secondary, just give it some time.

patience is a virtue, one that is nearly impossible to have while applying to med school haha thanks!

The three secondary essay questions are as follows:
Describe in two to three paragraphs how you learned about the osteopathic profession and why you feel the profession is a good fit for you. (500 words)
What is your approach to leadership and how do you plan to utilize this approach throughout medical school? (250 words)
What do you believe, as a medical student, would be the three most important characteristics of professionalism? (250 words)

Correct? wanted to get a head start on them. i think they were posted earlier in the thread.

Correct. Good luck !

Where are you checking to see if they've arrived? I already have a green check mark next to "recommendations" on my secondary even though I haven't sent them yet.

I believe thats a technical difficult then. How could they confirm your letters received if you haven't sent them?

We are checking for the green checkmark next to recommendations.

Can someone outline what letters are required for MSU and if their is a special form?

hmmm.. I filled in #1 and #2, hit "save", then hit "submit", and a green check mark came up. I haven't sent it from Interfolio yet though. Was I not supposed to hit submit yet haha? Dang

From MSUCOM's website:

•Recommendation Letters: We accept only two recommendations from individuals who know you well. You may use individuals who have supervised you in a work or volunteer experience, professors, coaches, clergy members, etc. We do not require academic/committee recommendations nor do we require that one of your recommendations be from an osteopathic physician. Our preferred transmission method is Interfolio and VirtualEvals. Please note letters submitted without an AACOMAS ID are not downloaded. Alternatively, you may ask your recommenders to scan & submit letters via email at [email protected] inclusive of your full name and AACOMAS ID. The letters must come directly from the recommender.

Basically use any 2 letters you want.

Submitted my app this week.. how long does it take to receive the secondary email?

Did they specifically ask for teaching experience on the app? or are you asking in general?
No they did not specifically ask for teaching experience. Tutoring is teaching experience (not teaching assistantship), mentoring is a form of leadership responsibility.

Remember, you can only list it if it was purely a volunteer experience (don't make the adcoms mad for the sake of us all! haha)

I have sGPA 3.42, cGPA 3.23, SMP graduate GPA 3.95.
MCAT 29 (ps 12, bs 10, vs 7)

CA resident
Do you think I have shot for this school?

Nice stats. As long as you don't mind 80,000+ in tuition yearly for being OOS. 🙂

yeah but rumor is majority (or a high percentage) of OOS students get offered scholarships to bring cost down to IS tuition

So would we be re-stating pretty much the volunteer stuff on our primary? I never get why they don't just refer to that.. kind of odd how they are deemphasizing work experience..

They also ask about HS volunteering. I'm happy for this because it adds to the hours. Remember, the average number of volunteer hours is around 1200 according to their web site. Any bit helps. 🙂

agreed! would tutoring at a local church be considered volunteering?

So happy finally got secondary in. Rewrote my secondary app about 5 times. Tried to make it short and sweet. I am sure they will be word blinded by the time they read everyone's app. Fingers, Toes, and everything else crossed at this point!!!

Screwed? Definitely not. Avg # of hours + a very nice mcat score + gpa 0.2 below avg = probable acceptance. I think it will come down to how "good" your ECs, PS, LoR, and secondary app are.

Work hard on those secondary essays!

Hope to hear the good news from you in 2 months! Good luck my friend!

Thanks for the positive message 🙂 !

As many premeds are around this time, I am a bit neurotic right now, constantly worrying about getting in somewhere lol. I am never like that otherwise -.-

Applying to canadian med schools gets you down, as my stats aren't even the minimum anywhere in canada lol 😛

Where have you applied ? or are you in med school already 😛

Man, I felt the same way after I got done. My significant other kept listening to it who was like nope not there yet-not catching my attention.

I am currently a graduate student at Hopkins but applying for med school this cycle (MD and DO) I applied to about 20 schools in the northeast area of the US (where I am from).

I understand your frustration. My good friend is from Ontario and applied last cycle to Canadian schools with a 4.0/30. He didnt get any love. I seems like Canadian schools place strong emphasis (maybe a little to much) on the MCAT; especially the verbal reasoning portion.

I here MSUCOM reserves seats (20-40?) for canadians!

Haha I understand! Maybe, MSUCOM will post your secondaries on their website and say"This is what a real secondary looks like!" haha

Hopefully all the work will result in an acceptance for you in a few months. Then all the hard work and frustration will be a thing of the past!

I hear that there are evaluation forms that need to be filled out by each recommender. Is that a thing of the past? Do you think they accept my committee letter minus the evaluation forms? I intend on calling them and finding out tomorrow as well.

That was last year. Have you looked at MSUCOM website for information on letters? They only accept 2 letters of your choice. This year there are no evaluation forms. The letters should be sent via Interfolio etc with your aacomas id

I don't think the admission's office downloaded them to the system yet. They mentioned they do it all at once.
Is that right? Ok sweet deal. Maybe they are waiting to download them until they begin reviewing apps?

genetics requirement!??! my school had a genetics requirements for all bio majors but they then modified the curriculum and replaced genetics with "Molecular Biology and Biotechnology." I took that course. Will that suffice for their genetic requirement?!? here is a course description of the class. please let me know. thank you in advance.

Molecular Biology and Biotechnology is divided into five main topics: Molecular Genetics; Methods in Biotechnology; Bioinformatics; Protein folding and interactions; Infection and immunity. A treatment of ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Implications) pervades the course.

Contact the school and ask. They are very helpful when it comes to prerequisite requirements. I went through something similar with my behavioural science courses. My school ended up combining social/cultural anthropology into a much broader, two semester anthropology course; because it became only a topic of the course, MSUCOM would NOT accept it as a prerequisite. I ended up having to email them a course list and they told me which courses would be accepted.

so I'm seeing different things... is the consensus to submit our letters w/ the AACOMAS ID without a dash? Or should I go with the dash? Or both just in case?

When I look in my contact info in the supplemental, I see it is show without a dash. So I assume that should be how we are expected to submit it
