Michigan State University (MSUCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Most recent averages are around 3.6/3.6/28

Is that for the incoming class accepted so far, or for the current M1 class?

I'm curious since they've periodically sent out updates about the stats of those they've accepted so far. I believe the most recent update stated somewhere in the ballpark of a 3.7 29-30 MCAT, so if it's shifted downward to a 3.6/28, that'd mean they're getting to applications with lower stats which would be great!

Good luck to everyone today. Hopefully at least one of us on here gets a call today.

Congrats! Talk about a turn around... How did you like the interview/building? I'm heading there tomorrow for a visit day and really excited to see it.

Yea seriously.. The interviewer told me that the committee already met today so they will talk about my app at the next meeting which means it will take about 2 weeks.. but when I was walking to the parking lot I recieved a call from my interviewer about my acceptance.. I love the school its so big ..I especially like all the different event centers , musuems and sport centers they have...one of the students recommeded that I check out their modern art musuem and also try the ice cream that they make on campus

Would anyone mind explaining a bit more what the facilities/classrooms/anatomy lab are like? Is it an old building? Is it state-of-the-art? I'm just trying to figure out what to expect! Thanks!

That's what I've seen for the most recent entering class. Don't know about this year's

Thanks! Literally happened about 10 minutes ago!
Congratulations! I am happy to see any movement or updates at this point. I have been in complete silence for nearly two months with the exception of a single interview. Great school. I would love my phone to go off right about now! Did you have to interview?

Nope I did not interview. I had silence from the time I submitted my secondary until today!

Quality weekend around the corner for you! Well if you don't mind sharing your stats I would like to know!

No problem. My stats are 30 mcat, sGPA 3.65 cGPA 3.8.. Lots of clinical hours as a CNA and MA. Not as many volunteer hours as most have posted but I did volunteer for hospice extensively for a year. I think my clinical experience weighed heavily because she mentioned admissions liked that I work at a doctors office as an MA.

That is great news! I have similar stats with a lower GPA... Undergrads athletics was not conducive for my making good grades. I have worked as an MA for two years and am also completing a biomedical MS! I hope they see something in my application soon...

That's nice they gave you such specific feedback! She just told me they thought I was "well rounded". Kind of disappointing with her prefacing it with "most people love to hear what their comments are!"

... not that being "well rounded" isn't good... but, ya know.

Sounds like you have a good chance! Good luck!

Yes it was definitely nice to hear what the admissions committee liked about me!

I have a missed call from Ann Snyder at the Admissions office, do they call for any other reason other than an acceptance?? I tried calling back, but I missed her call again because I was still at work... 😕

Got rejected from MSUCOM today 🙁 ! I was complete in mid-September. They at least allowed me to schedule an appointment to speak with them about my application.

I'm sorry to hear that ! How were you notified of rejection ? :/

Also, I have the waitlist option again on my portal, anyone else ? don't want to actually confirm that it is the waitlist if it's an error again.

does anyone know if they will send an official acceptance package after the phone call? thanks

also received an email rejection 12/5 from here after being complete mid-november. I also had a 24 on my MCAT, so that was probably a flag for them at this point late in the game. They give you the option of setting a in-person appointment to discuss your application - Any idea if you can give them a call instead?

You will get an email in a few days, then a small packet in the mail in a week or so. During that time your admissions portal will get an admissions offer tab where you fill out a few things (including site placement), send some things by mail, including graduate form and all transcripts, and pay the deposit. When all this is complete you will get your choice of site placement. Congratulations, see you next year!! 🙂

Oh man, e-mail rejections already. I'm so sorry guys! Big hugs!

That is interesting.

If you didn't receive an email about it, it probably is an error? I would DEFINITELY call admissions though and confirm that it is

I agree.

I checked mine, and there is nothing different on it. If it is a waitlist for you, that isn't all a bad thing. 🙂

ACCEPTED!! Missed a call yesterday but got a welcome email this morning! Would've liked to know what they liked about my application...

Rejected today via email, sub-average stats and OOS 🙁

Congrats to everyone getting calls today though!!! 🙂

Sorry to hear it... Better luck elsewhere! This makes me nervous since my stats are a little low in the gpa department...

Don't be too scared with a lowish GPA... mine was well below 3.2, and I've also seen some around 3.0 get in! As long as you feel good about the rest of your application, you have a fine chance and GPA alone will not get you a rejection.

the interviewer told me they like to accept a lot of non-traditional applicants and people with unique experiences so its not all about gpa

I got an email today at 8:30am and was waitlisted. Canadian applicant complete on 7/19...kinda just glad to finally hear something! I'm hoping it (WL) moves fast though, don't wanna wait any longer!

It would be nice to finally hear something! Stats?

I had a 3.0/3.0, 28 MCAT, plus I'm a nontrad from Cali. I honestly didn't expect this one, neither the rejection from LECOM-B. This entire process is boggles my mind!
