I always get a 404 - File or directory not found message when I try to login to the secondary app site (I submitted app already). Anyone else having this problem or ideas how to fix it?

Are you logging in using the link they gave you when you were invited to complete the secondary? I used to have issues when I was using the link from the "secondary completed" email. It's worth a try.

admissions.com.msu.edu is the website

I am an admitted student for the class of 2019. I got wait listed last December and got an acceptance call in May and then decided to defer a year. There is hope for everyone that has been wait listed you just have to be patient. Congrats to everyone who has been admitted so far. We should set up a Facebook group to get to know each other and possibly find potential roommates.

Could someone please recap which area codes we should be looking out for when admissions calls? 🤔

Thank you!
Since I was complete in the beginning of October .. I don't think the admissions committee will have a chance to look at my application till December now I think :S ?

I'm a Canadian applicant by the way.

I honestly don't even know if the committee goes through the applications in the date submitted. But hopefully you'll hear back soon!

In September, I received my acceptance call from a 586 area code, which is the Macomb location. I have heard others have received theirs from the 517, but not typically the 313 area code.

I plan to post a summary of my touring experiences of both the DMC and Macomb locations later today/this week.
I am touring East Lansing December 5th, so I don't know much about that campus besides the simulation lab and that the facilities are older.

The Macomb campus is in a lovely suburban location. It is right off a high way (M-59) which can get very busy around rush hour. But the location is nice as it is located between two malls, surrounded by restaurants and shopping centers. Also, there is no housing issue here...there are plenty of apartments/condos to choose from that are very affordable. The building is tucked away from the highway though in a "university" building, so it's pretty quiet. The "university" building has four buildings that other universities run classes through, such as Central, Wayne, etc. MSUCOM has it's own building that is very new-only five years old, so the facilities are very nice. There are ample quiet study spaces with tons of windows. It is surrounded some by forest and there are nature trails you can walk on when you need a break. There is plentiful parking and it is all free.

The Detroit campus is located within the Detroit Medical Center, which is pretty neat. MSUCOM has it's own wing that is very secure. There is 24/7 security right before you enter the area. Also, parking is right next to the entrance, however you have to pay for a pass. The DMC is a little smaller, not as many study spaces or windows. But it is a different atmosphere, as it is in the city, right across the street from Wayne State's Medical School, and in a medical environment. Living in the safe areas of Detroit is fairly expensive, but there are several suburbs about 15-20 minutes away that are safe, affordable and fun.

For non-traditional students or those who have had a big university experience before, I think either of these locations would be great. As a non-traditional student myself, I am choosing one of the two. Only 50 students matriculate at each branch, so there is a more "family" type of feeling for these locations.

I have yet to see the East Lansing campus, but I know there are more students who attend this campus and it is imbedded within the overall MSU community. I know the facilities are a little older, but there is more room to get involved with student government, etc. Also there is the simulation lab there as well. East Lansing is a pretty cool city, but it is very spread out as well.

Overall, it depends on the personal preference you may have when choosing the campus. I definitely suggest checking them out personally and see where you fit best. It may just surprise you.

How is the deferment process at MSU, was it difficult or do they normally allow students to defer?

It is a case-by-case process, but I do not believe it is too difficult to be granted a deferment. I know at least one person who did this to establish Michigan residency before starting.

so smart of them! they must be saving so much money now as a Michigan resident.

In order to defer you need to have probable cause. I had to send them an email to ask for deferment. In the email you have to state why you should be granted a deferal.

To update them with a second MCAT score, do you just add it to AACOMAS or do I need to send them an update letter too?

Just an FYI for anyone who is interested, there' s a MSUCOM see the sites Open House this Saturday, November 1st at Macomb from 9am - 12 pm (Address: 44575 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038) and then on the same day at DMC from 1-4pm (Address: 4707 St. Antoine St., Detroit, MI 48201). It's open to all interested attendees, friends and family. There's free parking on-site and no registration required.

I got that email and freaked out at first. Anything from "[email protected]" in my inbox terrifies me.

Was this via email or phone call? Congrats!

I went to Macomb and Detroit today as well. Everyone was so awesome. Thank you especially to Jeff for giving me a personal tour of the Macomb campus and to Dean Strampel for spending the time to talk with me about patient care. I thought that all the deans and professors were so nice and personable. What great smiles and attitudes! They answered all my questions in a thoughtful manner. Furthermore, I was impressed by the warmth and friendlines of the other applicants and of the students who were willing to take time out of their busy schedule to be present for us. One of my favorite events from the open house was getting a very mini OMT lecture which was very enlightening. Overall, all these things are exactly what I desire for my medical education.

I was 3 L blood loss girl from one of the case study presentations on the open book fracture at Macomb if that gives you any idea of which one I was. 🙂

Agreed with everything.

Haha I attended the event last year and they did the same presentation, so I knew all the answers. I just didn't want everyone to look at me lol. Prolly should have got the students that steak dinner. 🙄

Haha! That is too funny. They were questions that I learned in medic school as a teenager.

I should have asked who was visiting the sites so that we could have met in person. I didn't know, though, how much of the open house I was going to be able to attend since I worked nights and then am working nights again right now which left little room for sleep. The Macomb campus reminded me a lot of LMU in feel and atmosphere, to me at least.

Did you also hear the news that 25 additional spots have been approved for next year's student class? I also didn't know that they had one student from Mexico admitted last year. Pretty cool!

Hey @StudyShy , I was really rooting for you last year when we where all applying to MSUCOM. I hope this year is going better for you! Maybe I'll see you as a 1st year at COM next year? Best of luck!

So they'll have a class size of 325?

Awe, that is so sweet! You have made me have warm fuzzies! <3

I believe so. Dean Strampel said that, in a way, this means that the 25 spots that are allocated for Canadian students do not interfere with the spots available for American students. MSUCOM is also expanding the layout of the Detroit Campus soon.

Thanks you guys for posting about your experiences at the open houses today.

Everything sounds great!

I would have loved to visit. Hopefully, I can make it next time.

Are you going to try to see the East Lansing open house on November 21st from 1-4pm?

Was this via email or phone call? Congrats!

It's my understanding that they call everyone they accept. But yes, it was a phone call from the 517 area code. They'll leave a message to call them back if you don't answer.

It's interesting that they called you on Friday, Oct 31st. I thought the next round of acceptance calls will be on Thursday, Nov 6?

I got an email from admissions on Friday for the event that was on Saturday and it included information on the upcoming east Lansing one.
