Michigan State University (MSUCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How long does the whole interview day last? I am doing the AM interview, but am trying to figure out what time to book my flight back to the east coast from Detroit. Thanks in advance!

Out of curiosity, does it make a difference in choosing an earlier interview time out of the two they give you? I'm a little nervous for this one

I submitted my secondary in the middle of july and still haven't heard a word. Would it do me any good to give them a call?

Soooooo anyone hear of any acceptances going out yet today?

Not yet! Hopeful though
I was too until about an hour ago lol. I'm thinking it's not happening today. Curious to know if anyone outside of SDN received calls or if maybe we were just getting ahead of ourselves thinking it would always be Tuesday/ Thursday

Nope. I remember they said they would during the interview presentation, but my email didn't really acknowledge my chances of getting off the wait list.
sorry to hear :/ If you don't mind me asking were you at the 08/21 or the 9/11 interview ?

I remember them saying that they expect a lot of movement from the waitlist at the first interview day. For everyone else waiting for a call, my call came around 4:30 or 5 when I got accepted so there is still time today.

Good luck, everyone!

Any of you guys also got II's at MSU College of Human Medicine? I heard both schools have similar stats for matriculants

I was lucky enough to get an II from CHM. I believe their average stats are just slightly higher than COM's

Awesome! Now you will be stress free on Nov 15th when deer season rolls around. (In MI anyway) I hope to be in your shoes.

Oh yeah! I will be in the stand all October too! I have to get my hunting in before I am consumed by studying. Plus the protein will fuel my brain 😏

I'm surprised at how fast the process is for some people. I was complete 9/1 and got the II 9/16.
For MSU CHM, I got completed on 8/14, and still haven't heard back yet.

It's such a crapshoot. And this is coming from a guy whose LizzyM is 64-65

Hey does anyone know if schools find out if you interview somewhere else post accepting an offer?

How long after interview are they suppose to notify you on status (accepted, rejected, or waitlisted)? I'm interviewing on the 3oth and I am really contemplating whether if theres a difference between taking genetics this semester or the next.

They said within a month they would notify us when we interviewed on 9/11.

I wish that is the case,
Does anyone know the rough timeline from "complete" status to "forwarded for preliminary review"? Thanks!
Are you talking about CHM? COM does not do preliminary review according to my knowledge.

COM. Interesting, do they ever send complete e-mails? My status says application complete date 9/1/15. So I guess I should patiently wait for II or rejection. Thanks!

Canadian applicant with my II completed on the 30th of August. REALLY hoping to hear from MSU-COM (or CHM!). I lived in Michigan from '94 to '08 in Oakland County, it would be awesome to comeback to what I consider my home <3

Did anyone have to reschedule the Interviews? both dates they offered me are impossible 🙁 I reached out to them but no answer yet

I was given an interview for Oct 8th!!!!!!

is very excited!

Anyone got any tips for interview prep for the next few weeks :O

I did that too, but it was MSU Greenline looking for Alumni donations.. (I graduated one year ago C'mon , I just got done paying you 25k a year). I'd expect the "acceptance" call to have a 517 area code if that helps anyone.

When I received a call, it was a 586 area code, and I didn't answer because I didn't recognize it/it wasn't 517. Oops

They might call from any of their three locations, but usually I see people get their acceptances from the 586 for Macomb and 517 for EL.

I did and they were very nice about it. I called early in the morning around 9:30am

Can any current students offer insight as to when individual campuses fill up? I am waiting on a decision from another school that won't come until Oct. 15th (so I don't want to pay the full deposit at MSUCOM until this decision), but I still want to be placed at the DMC campus because it is closer to home. Does anyone know if this campus will be filled by then? With the rate of SDN acceptances, it wouldn't seem so, but I wanted to make sure.

There were 7 of us at the accepted student tour day of the DMC and 4 were already committed to the DMC. While the DMC does fill up the fastest I would think you should be ok if you have your deposit in on the 15th.

Thanks man!

It took me three and a half weeks to hear back after I interviewed. As a Canadian applicant I was accepted but I was only able to tour the EL campus. Can anyone give me some insight to what the campuses in Macomb and DMC can offer?

From the first interview there were acceptances the first week after then two weeks of silence right? Just want to know if I should be excessively attached to my phone or just try to put it out of my mind for the week....

Hey all,
I am trying to get an idea of how much time we get to discuss each scenario at each station. I called the admissions office and the lady who answered wasn't sure if it was 6 or 8 minutes.

Thanks.

Yes. A limited number of applicants were accepted right away and then there was silence until after the next round of interviews. It seems they accept those they really think highly about right away and then compare the rest to the next applicant group. So you can relax, you'll hear soon! Good luck!

When I received the call, it sounded like it all depends on which committee member you're assigned to. She mentioned something about how I was unlucky because I was assigned to her and had to wait 3 weeks.

Oh that's interesting. I was going by what I was told on the phone call by someone in admissions. Seems like we are being told different things haha.

Yeah, I don't know! Seems like it would be difficult to get through 40+ people in a couple of days, but I could be wrong haha
