This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone else going to the Detroit and Macomb open house event this weekend?

Just got the call! Accepted 10/22, interviewed 10/08. Secondary was submitted 8/27.

Congratzz! I was wondering when people who interviewed on 10/08 would hear back.

I got the phone call earlier today.... ACCEPTED!!!! 😀 Interviewed 10/08/2015.
My GPA and MCAT were slightly below average. But I believe my ECs, interview skills, and reason for medicine made up for it.

And where's this Facebook Group page I hear people speaking of?
(Initially posted this in the previous year's thread cuz I was too excited lol)

Accepted 10/22! Interviewed 10/08, morning session.
MCAT: 512, GPA: 3.43, OOS. Good extracurriculars, I've been told I have excellent letters, and I found the MMI style of the interview to be pretty intense.

And the anxiety rises knowing that people have started hearing back from your interview date....

Those accepted who interviewed on 10/8... are you in state? Out of state? Canadian?

Nervous that people from 10/08 are hearing back before I have...interviewed on 9/30

In the same boat...

On my interview date, it was stressed that how soon you hear back depends heavily on the committee member that was assigned your application and how busy they are. They said that if it takes longer to hear back, it has no bearing on your chances of getting in or the quality of your application. Hope that helps.

I remember the same thing being told to us. So no need to stress yet guys... Sometimes no news is good news 🙂. Also lots of people that were accepted this past Monday had their interviews over a month ago. Btw I'm in the same boat as you guys just really anxious haha. Interviewed on 10/08 though.

Accepted yesterday... it's like.... sorta chill being accepted.
Stats: 3.7 sGPA 3.8 cGPA, Masters of Science, 29 MCAT (11/7/11, verbal is overrated anyways), 10 research articles, In-state, Mission trip to Haiti. MSU Alum. GO GREEN GO WHITE
Good luck to everyone else!

Forgot to mention I interviewed on 10/08.

I'm surprised MSU hasn't sent out an update email listing how many interviews and acceptances they have given out. Last year they had the MCAT range and GPA of accepted applicants as well as an update on how many spots they had left.

I just had my interview today. They said to expect that email on monday.

We have about 65 people in the Facebook group so they are moving along on the app review now. I'll be interested what Monday's email shows.

How did it go?
I think it went okay. I'm always pretty hard on myself though. I definitely enjoyed the student panel and tour a lot. MMI was so different than I expected. Some interviews I felt awesome and some I was just so nervous about! Overall it was a great experience though. Fingers crossed! I would love to be a student next year.

Just had my interview today, am I the only one who felt like the MMI format didn't really help show what I'm like? I felt really limited and I honestly felt like I didn't get to express myself the way I would have liked to in some stations. I personally prefer a conversation like interview, I like getting to know the interviewer as he/she gets to know about me. Anyone else feel that way?

The MMI wasn't bad per say, I had a good experience with it. I guess it's just not my style. Plus some of the stations had very bleh interviews, they were kinda monotone and didn't seem all that interested in what I was saying.

Sorry to hear that you didn't particularly like the MMI format -- hopefully you were able to share that feedback in your debriefing! There are definitely pros and cons to each style of interviews... but hopefully you at least enjoyed your day overall. 🙂

Have you had any MMIs or one-on-one interviews at other schools this application season? Just curious if your feelings are specific to MSU's MMI or just in general.

Has anyone gone to one of these open houses? Do you need to attend start to finish or can you come in later?

Haha I actually was so relived about getting the interview over with I didn't think much about saying anything at the feedback.

I didn't have any other mmi interviews, so I can't say if it's better at any other schools. I had one on one interviews before and I may have gotten lucky with my interviewers who were very engaging and involved me in a conversation. I guess that's what I enjoy, I enjoy interaction, something dynamic where I can express myself better. With the MMI I felt like I did my task but there was no feedback on what I did or said, not if I performed e well or not, just no conversation to feed off one another. I would have liked it better if there was more back and forth conversation. That's just me though. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wish mmi was more down to earth, and not as scripted.

The rest of the day was amazing, I especially liked the student panel again because again I got to engage with them on a personal level. They were all really friendly and super helpful. That was likely my favorite part of the day.

Thanks for the feedback; I'll pass it on. I think it's probably pretty hard to balance the need for an objective process with something that is personalized and down to earth -- though I'm sure there are some tweaks that could be made to improve it. I'm especially glad you liked the panel. 😉 I also think Dr. Falls (the first guy you heard talk) does a great job describing the school, so hopefully you got a good feel for the kinds of things COM has to offer.

I would try and attend the See the Sites day from start to finish because they start with a tour then you have sessions where you listen to speakers. Not to say you can't just come in but it isn't exactly like the EL open house where they are just having tours

Can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere but I'm thinking business casual (Khakis)? Is a shirt and tie too formal?

Yeah business casual. Khakis are perfect (that's what I'm wearing tomorrow). Definitely not a suit or shirt and tie kind of thing.

I too was interviewed yesterday

I found the MMI pretty neat, but at the same time I was pretty nervous! There were some stations where I had the concept in my head that I wanted to express, but I felt like I was stumbling with getting it out coherently! However, there were a few stations in which I connected with the situation personally, and was better able to articulate my points.

Eh... Afterwards since I have been doing the whole "Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda" thing. Overall I liked it, I just hope I get some good news from MSUCOM. Loved everyone I met there, the students, the faculty, and the other applicants (MSU is soooo big. Holy jeez dat stadium).

is there a point in still submitting the secondary this late in the game..... lets say above avg stats by a little
