I'm on alternate list, but just a reminder to update your application with them as needed!
I've updated for recent increase in work hours and a new job as well as any new certifications!
I hope everyone is enjoying this winter break!! If not, happy final studying!!!

Has anyone that was interview waitlisted gotten an interview yet? Getting antsy since I was waitlisted in October and haven’t heard anything yet
I got waitlisted as well. I emailed admissions regarding the status of my application about a week ago and have yet to hear from them. Trying to focus on my finals but I'm distracted lol

I would maybe call! They're very good about replying to any of my emails, but I called them when curious about the state of my application and they were able to tell me right then and there.

I am interviewing in the beginning of January! How are the interviews??

I interviewed in November, the interview process is pretty laid back! I'm assuming the process is the same as it was a few months ago so I'll just explain the whole day. We got there around 7:45am and went to a Welcome/All about Midwestern talk when everyone got there. Then, we broke up into groups (you will be assigned a group the day of) and you will either have your interview or go on a campus tour. Everyone did their interviews before lunch, so there wasn't too much waiting! After lunch, we toured the large animal and small animal facilities across the street.

The interviews themselves were conversational and the time flew by. You will be interviewed by two faculty members and you will be given their biographies beforehand. The interviews were 30 minutes long and they like for you to ask your own questions at the end. I was super anxious because it was my first vet school interview but it was a really good experience overall!

Did they say when we would hear back then? Like tomorrow??
When I called the person from admissions said I'd either hear back on Monday or Tuesday of this week, however I still haven't heard anything. So I'm not entirely sure what is happening.

Did you check your MWU portal? A lot of times they don't email you, you'll just notice a change on the portal.

I interviewed at the end of November as well and haven’t heard anything yet 🙁

I’m not sure how much longer I can wait, I’m going crazy haha
We just finished week 3 of 2nd quarter and after tomorrow we are on break. We had 2 tests and a lab practical this week and the day we come back from break we have a test worth 52% of our grade in one class and another test 2 days later. Don't worry yourself to death! If you have actual free time right now, CHERISH it! Go out and do something fun! If you don't do it for yourself...do it for me

I have interview on 1/10, those who have already done the interview, are there any tips? thank you : ) and congrats to everyone who got accepted!

Has anyone that’s been waitlisted for an interview heard anything?? I’m assuming the committee isn’t meeting up again until next year but the wait is so nerve wracking :arghh:

I sent them an email a couple days ago of an update to my application so I hope so too lol

Same! I can finally see the accepted checklist!
Is it a definite yes if our portal updated to see the accepted student checklist? I’m so paranoid and I don’t wanna get my hopes up for no reason lmao

My portal updated on Friday and I just received an acceptance email today.

Yes! It should be. Mine updated on Friday and I just got a phone call and email. :cat:

I’m not sure when mine updated, but I saw it today and still no email/call

For those that are waitlisted for an interview: I emailed admissions the other day, since I haven't really heard anything since October and they sent me a response a little bit ago saying that they are offering interviews into April so there's still a chance of being asked to interview

Just got taken off the interview waitlist...got an email today for an interview for 2/5/18. So don't give up hope if you were interview waitlisted!
Would you mind sharing your stats?

That is so great to hear! I thought for sure that I wasn't in the running anymore since I've been on the interview waitlist since September 21st.

Hi all! I'm new to the sdn forum. I have an interview with Midwestern vet school on Feb 5th. Is there anyone who has interviewed this cycle that can tell me what kind of questions they asked and what the interview format was like?

Hi! Im currently on their alternate list but will definitely reapply if I don't get in.
Do you recall your interview questions and what the interview format was? I have an interview on Feb 5th and I'd like to begin preparing now. Thanks in advance for any information!

I would read through the entire board here! The questions varied even in my interview group, I was given specific veterinary scenarios and asked how I would respond to each one, while others in my group didn't have those! Earlier replies have definitely covered this much better than I could currently, but even the replies that don't exactly fit this answer have been extremely helpful!

I interview on the 5th as well! I've lived in scrubs for the past year and a half so I'll be suit shopping 🙂

Be super relaxed! I know this will initially seem hard to do. I'm a super anxious person and within meeting my two interviewers I immediately calmed down. They want to know about you and your experiences, not your academic record (which in my case, saved my butt). They'll ask you what you think you should do in certain situations, aspects of a good vet, etc. Take a deep breath, and think about the question for a minute or two, they want you to be comfortable and give thoughtful responses. Also, at the end they ask you if you have any questions for them and you should definitely have at least two!! They LOVE when you ask thought-provoking questions. I asked "if you had to leave academia, would you open your own practice, or become an associate vet, and why?" Both my interviewers had to think about the questions for a few minutes before answering.

P.S. Dress nice I would wore a suit and tie; some people wore business casual, but I would not suggest that.

I interviewed in Sept, and got accepted a week later--let me know if you have more questions 🙂

Hi! In my interview, they would switch from asking personal questions about myself such as what my hobbies are to questions such as "tell me about a time when this happened and what was the outcome..." I had like 4 of those. Like others say, try not to be nervous, but its hard not to be. I and so nervous like the first minutes, and once you realize it's not as bad that's when I calm down lol. It's a great idea to start preparing

Any interview waitlisters here anything?

And if we need to update hours or anything do we just email them with our updated stats?

Yep, I just emailed unofficial transcripts and additional hours to admissions 🙂 here’s hoping!

Hi guys! I apologize for the stupid question in advance however I figured I would check with you guys prior to contacting the school. I submitted my VMCAS application for this cycle prior to the deadline, however Midwestern was not one of the schools I initially applied to. Their website says that they have rolling admissions and use VMCAS, and it sounds like after that deadline you may apply through the school and have all materials submitted by March?
Does that mean that you may apply to them separately if you did not apply through VMCAS? I know that at this time in the application cycle many interviews and such have already been conducted.
Thank you for any clarification!

I am almost certain, but double check with the school, that you can still apply before the March deadline. I know they accepted applications after the deadline four years ago. Im part of the first class and several of my classmates applied after the VMCAS submission date.

Quick questions for those who have applied to MWU or are applying right now:
  • Did you answer the 'how did you hear about us' prompt in an essay format? Or just a few sentences?
  • Does anyone know if eLORs are required if you are applying directly from MWU's portal?

eLORs are required. I spoke to someone and he said your recommenders can submit via email. I called again to double check and I had an additional question, and I was later told to use interfolio. I'd go with using interfolio just to be safe.
