Midwestern University c/o 2025

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In the portal there is a document with all of the surrounding apartments and the discount they offer to Midwestern students
I am not able to access these until i pay my matriculation fees is that right? I was looking for the housing application and couldn't find it, I think because my portal is still displaying all of the applicant information. I am visiting Midwestern on Thursday, so after that I will pay the matriculation so I can access it! Thanks for all the information everyone! 🙂

I haven’t paid my matriculation nor accepted my seat yet and I could view the documents. It was under the interview information tab. The one that has faculty information.

Hey everyone, I have my interview on Wednesday but I'm not sure what I am supposed to do. Will they send me an email soon with a link I am supposed to use for the interview or should I be contacting them about my interview?

Edit: I called and they said they would send me an email in the next few days with a link and if I do not get one then call back and they will help get it to me.

I was able to find that one on their website. Were you able to find the on-campus housing application on your portal without paying the matriculation fee?

You may be able to see it, but I know for a fact you can not apply without having paid the fee (I emailed and asked before I completed it back in December). I had to pay my fee and then after like 24 hours my portal updated and had the financial aid applications and housing applications.

I was wondering if we needed to send Fall transcript grades in?? I haven't heard anything from them and when I send an email I got an automated email back saying they were busy...
I haven't heard anything from them either besides that my application was complete...
I did send my fall transcripts electronically just in case but havn't gotten a notification that they've received them

I would just send them an email and ask about the transcripts. They are really good about responding quickly.

They had me send mine over. I have emailed and called them and they are very quick to respond and are extremely helpful!

So I had a curious question for current students. I noticed on the "academic calendars" list a week each trimester for exams. Are these just the week of final exams? When determining grades for each class, how many tests are administered in each class? And in what other ways is knowledge determined (like in classes where a written test wouldn't be appropriate- ex: "clinical skills classes" and "intro to veterinary literature)?
In some classes in my masters we had major tests and in other classes we had major assignments and/or projects. Just trying to understand how vet school grading compares.

The best answer is that, it depends. For example, I am in the winter quarter of my first year and I have 2 midterms next week followed by 2 more midterms the following week (all for four different classes) and then a week free of exams followed by a week with 2 finals (1 class but first exam is written and second exam is a practical) and then 4 finals the following week. Most are multiple choice tests (at least all that I’ve had so far), some are quizzes, and, depending on the class, there may be group projects. It’s basically exactly what you’d expect of a graduate program.

I know I'm a bit late to this but I thought I would add that I did send in my fall transcripts. However, even though I was notified that they were received it doesn't seem like they were ever processed because the two classes that I needed (Biochem and Physics) never updated in the portal. I figured when I get my degree in May I will send everything over again and then email if there are any issues.

By the way, I noticed on the immunizations checklist they say that you need a one step TB test but I noticed on the portal records it says a two step. I had the one step completed a couple of months ago but for some reason when I uploaded the document the TB test and I think one other, didnt show up on the portal records. Do you know which one is the correct requirement?
I plan to get the rabies shots next month so that I will already have all the documentation uploaded and then I can email and make sure everything is up to date on what is required in the system.

Its a two step for the first time *for certain programs. This might change for your matriculation, not entirely sure, so I'd wait for the welcome email/orientation. There is a "grace" period where you don't need any of the vaccines or anything until sometime in November of your matriculation.

Thanks for the info!

Welp back to the doctor for me. Wish I would have known the first time I got it done but I was too busy following the printed checklist lol. Thank you for the info I appreciate it.

I would check with Midwestern first for the incoming class. Im a current second year and my class only had to get a 1 step TB test. I never got a 2 step one.

Hm ok then. I will just have to email them after I get all of my rabies done. I just wanted to get past student's opinions first.

Where will you be getting your rabies vaccines done? Also, do you know approximately how much it costs? I have terrible insurance with a $5k deductible. 😢

I am getting it at the Midwestern multi specialty clinic and it is around 300$ each one so 900$ total. I think my insurance covers most if not all of it (Aetna) but I won’t know for sure until it’s all done. It’s always a good idea to check with the company to see how much they cover. I hope you can get a good deal 🙂

Hello! Has anybody who interviewed in January heard anything from MWU?

I can't remember if I asked already but what does the typical day look like for first years? I was looking at the classes we will be taking but I was unsure of the scheduled times. I will be driving to campus from an 1hr and 10min away so I was just trying to picture when I would leave home and get back for study time, homework, etc...

They’ll give you a block schedule prior to starting to give you an idea of what to expect. Honestly depends on the day and the week, some days we had only two hours of class and others it was 8-5. This may be a 180 depending on COVID by Fall, it could be all in-person again or how it currently is.

I see, that makes sense. I just wanted to have some idea of what it might look like if it is in person. Thank you for the info!

First-year here in the middle of COVID! Currently, all our classes (except for the few required, in-person things (i.e. dissections) are online and the lectures are recorded and posted. I, personally, learn better when watching the recordings (I’m the type to fall asleep in live lectures so I watch them at 1.25-1.5x speed, plus I enjoy the ability to pause when I need to and to watch them at my own pace since I don’t enjoy early morning classes) so it’s not too bad of a deal for me that everything’s online, so far. So far in my experience, the quarter’s schedule gets posted near the beginning of the quarter but, due to COVID, they keep changing things around with short notice so being flexible is a good trait to have. Not sure how many lectures we have a day because I don’t watch them live lol. Like FrostySparrow said, not sure if things will be changing but it’ll depend on whether COVID will be under control by then. I’d just be open to the idea of being really flexible with your schedule.

they just randomly emailed me asking me if I want to transfer my application to their school of pharmacy what lol
SAME! I emailed them to be like sooooo does this mean I'm rejected???
Honestly this is leaving a REALLY bad taste in my mouth about this school. Especially because the time and effort we put in to be prepared to apply to vet school just doesn't jive with the idea of "oh yeah, maybe I'll just change my entire life course and apply to their pharmacy program". WTF

I got the same email! It was like, “sorry your application didn’t make it through...” Well that’s news to me! Their loss! I don’t want to go to a school that notifies applicants they’ve been rejected like this anyways!

I remember seeing on the 2024 thread that they did the exact same thing to applicants last year.

I can confirm that this also happened last year.

at least you got an email, i applied and I've had 0 communication with them. last month I asked for an update on my application and no response lol. I decided I wasn't going to follow through anymore with the prereqs they needed after that

I think it is a autogenerated email. When i was accepted 2 years ago i had also received the same email like 3 months later. I wouldn't take it as a rejection unless you specifically hear it from them!

I JUST got an email for an OOS interview at 2:30 this morning. I had actually written them off since I hadn’t heard anything for months. It was a pleasant surprise

I also just received my interview invite via email this morning! I definitely wasn't expecting this.. It seems pretty late in the cycle for interviews but still excited 🙂

The school runs on a 4 quarter system, not a semester system. It’s kind-of like undergrad but there isn’t a summer quarter.

The quarter system makes much more sense for the other programs since they tend to have all 4 quarters vs the 3 we do. BUT!!!! For your 3rd year, you go into a summer quarter because we don't get a summer vacation due to clinics. So my 3rd year started in August 2020 and I start my 3rd year clinics in my Spring quarter (March 2021, we don't get a summer vacation (2, 2 week vacation blocks) so I'll technically have a summer quarter.

has anyone gotten off the interview waitlist...? wondering when the waitlisted ppl would start to get pulled off for an interview

I emailed them when I received that email from their pharmacy program. They said “You are still on the interview waitlist for the College of Veterinary Medicine, this status won't change. It is unlikely the program will need to go the waitlist for additional interviews”. Ugh

This is pretty usual since we've become fully accredited. I had a classmate pulled off the interview waitlist and I was pulled from their alternate list, but that was prior to full accreditation, since then more people are comfortable attending seeing the NAVLE pass rates. This may change as UoA starts going through their list, I know some applicants who would prefer UoA over Midwestern and may decline their seat after. It's also hard for them to tell you if anything will change since it's not a ranked list (for alternates or interview waitlist) at least from what they've said.

My interview is coming up for Midwestern. Any advice from other previous interviewees ?? (OOS first time app)

Just be yourself! Of all the interviews I had this cycle, Midwesterns was my favorite because I feel like they actually asked about me, my goals, and even mentioned my hobbies. Beyond that, just try to be calm, everyone is super nice!

Hello everyone! I posted this to the midwestern housing group but I figured I would reach out to this group as well, hopefully, this is an appropriate place to do so. My name is Taylor and I have recently accepted my offer to midwesterns DVM program. I am looking to see if anyone on campus or within walking distance is looking fora roommate? I am 24 years old, very easy going, love to study and learn but also have fun in my downtime, if you want to know more about me or know of someone looking for a roommate, please reach out! Goodluck to everyone still waiting!
