Minnesota c/o 2014!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes it's covered under student health insurance. What they did for us this year was set up a clinic during the lunch hours right in the building so you don't even have to make a separate appointment or anything for it. The clinic was in about October I think?

Sweet, thanks. I wasn't relishing the prospect of having the receptionist at the county health center optically judge all my life choices while I sat in the waiting room again.

Thanks, turnandburn! Mind if I put something on the Facebook page for the non-SDNers?

I remember them saying that, too.

One of our panelists (a certain Caninerepro... ) told us to just hold out and get it when the year started, if I remember right.

Good thing, too, b/c my local health center has to special order it and they charge $600. 😱

Damn, I've been made! :ninja: Yeah the three shots add up to more than the cost of the insurance.

Minnesota class of 2014,

We never talk anymore... *bump*.

Was anyone else ridiculously excited to see the confirmation e-mail in their inbox on Friday?

Minnesota class of 2014, We never talk anymore...

I know!!! It has been way too quiet here and on the Facebook page!

Was anyone else ridiculously excited to see the confirmation e-mail in their inbox on Friday?

Yes, I'm still wishing for a big packet of info with everything we need to know for next year, but I got a ridiculous thrill to be welcomed into the Class of 2014! 😀

Good luck to the waitlisters! I hope you get good news soon! :luck:

We'll miss you Rileyroo!

Waitlisters: be sure to let us know when you get in so that we can get excited and welcome you!

That email took a big weight off my shoulders, lol.

Although it came immediately after I had called Amy Babcock to double check 😀

Ha. I had e-mailed Karen Nelson the day before. I'm sure they were getting inundated with similar requests. 🙂

I wonder if we were even talking to them, lol - our questions were so predictable, they could probably get by with a recording 🙄

Off topic, but I get to see Jane Goodall talk about her work tonight! SOO excited!

Jane Goodall is flippin' amazing. That is all. 😀

Not a MNer anymore but 👍

Just gave a speech about her in my Public Speaking class two weeks ago.

I saw her talk at a book signing about 10 years ago and it was amazing. Such an inspiring person.

and I'm terrible with the quote function.

I doubt she's changed much in 10 years. She's 76, but spent almost 3 hours graciously signing hundreds of books last night after an awesome speech. And she's off to Ohio to do the same again tonight... She travels some 300 days a year trying to raise awareness. I hope I'm half that energetic when I'm 76!

...but always welcome 🙂.
👍 HandD, you are welcome here any time! Is it weird that I miss you without having ever met you?

Yay, Melinda!!!! Can't wait to meet you.

Be sure to join the Facebook group and introduce yourself!

melinda, that is awesome! congrats! what # on the waitlist were you?

My check was cashed today... it's starting to feel real! 🙂

Im #2 on the oos waitlist... ill be sure to post something once i hear ne thing.. im starting to get a bit paranoid that my waitlist confirmation thing never got there... ohhh i hope it did

JKIM, you should definitely call them! not to totally freak you out, but my original waitlist intent form got lost somewhere between the usps and MN and I wouldn't have known if I didn't call them 2 weeks ago to confirm.

so i finally called Amy and she told me that they did receive my waitlist confirmation thingy... yay. She also stated that us waitlisters would be notified of changes in waitlist status (im assuming us OOS'ers) early May. Good luck to us all !!!

On a side but similar note... Anyone paranoid that the class is full? I see on the KSU thread that the class is actually full and so far they haven't had a need to contact anyone on the waitlist which is crazy since they went through their entire waitlist last year! Oh I hope its not the same for Mn...I really loved it there!!!

Wanted to let you OOS's on the waitlist know that I gave up my spot! So, there's at least one more space for someone...I'm sure the class isn't full yet. Good luck!!

JKIM: I'm also concerned that the MN class is full..
plus, my birthday is at the beginning of May and I'm going to be so sad if that status email delivers bad news 🙁

on the upside, Roy Hobbs was #1 on the OOS waitlist but got into his state school (davis), so I think that means you'll be the first person they take off the waitlist (if any)!

You're #2, right? I know that at least one person who had applied OOS ended up turning down for Mizzou, so with Roxy out too and Roy at Davis, you should be in! I can't guarantee, but it's almost a sure thing by the numbers, so don't be paranoid. :luck: and see you there this fall!

LOL I am in fact #2... I guess #1 now! lol. all this #2 business reminds me of the Austin Powers bathroom scene... lol perhaps its just me 🙂
Thanks for the support guys! I really hope to get into Mn kuz I realllyx1000000 liked the school and the city. Here's hoping for some good news at the start of May.

Der2002... Here's hoping you DO get an email on your birthday and its a dam good one!

...and there are 6 of us OOS on the "Offers Turned Down" thread that declined spots. good luck to those of you waiting patiently. 🙂

the real question is: how many OOS students are offered admission than there are spots available? for example, it doesn't matter that 6 accepted OOS students chose other schools if MN overaccepts by 10 OOS students. I'm concerned that since only IS waitlisters have been called, that means that there are no (at least, not yet) spots open for OOS waitlisters. I'm trying not to be pessamistic, but I rather expect the worse and hope for the best...

well it's 6 SDNers plus the others mentioned that didn't post on the "offers turned down" thread. so there are more out there that aren't on SDN that dropped. and they may just be calling IS right now and start OOS later. hang in there!!

Also, they didn't warn accepted people about overaccepting on the letter, like Michigan State did, so I suspect that they didn't accept too many over capacity.

In the Michigan State letter, there was a note at the bottom saying that they had accepted over the capacity of the class, and so turning in a deposit & form before the 15th might not guarantee a spot if everyone else got theirs in before you. I'm guessing that they assumed, probably correctly, that Michigan is going to hemorrhage educated professionals and professional students this year because of the economy, and over-accepted to compensate.

UMN, in contrast, had no such warning, signaling to me that they probably didn't go too far over capacity.

So what are everybody's plans for living arrangements next year? Do you already have something lined up? Living alone? With another future classmate? With an upperclassman? I'm moving up with my dog and am thinking about living alone at least for the first year and seeing who I would work well with as a roommate instead of having it be the luck of the draw.

Alpha Psi house! I'm the token first year for this year, so I'll be living with 7 upperclassmen/women. I'm moving in June.

Hey, question for the current students - I remember hearing about digital notes in addition to/in lieu of paper notes. Can you get just digital notes? What format are they in? I'm trying to nail down my note-taking strategy and what software I plan on using.

Yes, you can just get digital notes (although some professors will hand out paper notes in class for everyone anyway...), which saves you $90 a semester or so. The notes are posted online on each class' WebCT site, so sometimes they'll be Powerpoints, sometimes PDFs, and often both. Most professors seem to prefer PDFs. If you opt for paper notes, you still have access to the online notes, of course. You'll just also get a big stack of paper versions as well.

Awesome, thanks! PDFs are totally ideal, and it'll be nice to save on copying fees/save trees.

So is anyone going to buy a new computer? I definitely need to. I remember on my tour the1st year giving the tour told us that people with Macs have some issues with some of the software that we need and she reccomended a PC. Just wondering what eveyone's plans are.

I'm hoping not to have to buy a new one- just for financial reasons (I'd rather spend the money on tuition). But I only have a high-end netbook now, so it may become a necessity as time goes on.

In the meantime, I'm going to try to get by- I've never been a fancy computer person (they get lost/broken/dropped/spilled on- and cool technology is kind of "meh" for me).
