Mizzou c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
lol, I applied to Mizzou. My roommates are VM1s so I am really getting first hand experience of the work it demands from you. Excited for my interview day sometime in Feb or March. Good luck to everyone 🙂

I'm assuming your IS? Can you access a copy of your application yet on the portal?

I am getting anxious- last year by this point I had gotten notification of what was missing and could view my application. I keep having nightmares that I pasted my essays into the wrong blanks or something and want to be able to see it! also, I know for a fact two of my reviewers have not submitted their stuff, so I'm puzzled on why I haven't gotten any notification? But the thing specifically says that you will be notified and given time and that you should assume completion if not notified....

I'm really worried because one of my reviewer's father passed away last week after being ill for several weeks. He was taking care of him in the end. I'm not sure if he did my thing or will remember about it if not, since he obviously has much more important things on his mind right now. I've been wondering if I should email Mizzou and check...

🙄dvmdreamer has reached the point in the application process where she is like a crazy person

Does anyone know how many OS that are interviewed get accepted? thanks a bunch!

Well, I don't know exactly how many are being interviewed, but I do know that it is double what was interviewed last year. However, they are not increasing class size or the percent of the class that is accepted OOS. So, unfortunately, this year the percent of accepted OOS applicants versus the number interviewed will go down.

I see, thanks! I just don't understand how they expect to get to know us better in 15 minutes 🙁

The interview is only partially about the student "you". You can be asked about something interesting from your shadowing, but that's mostly to prove that you've done the shadowing you say you've done, and that you were an active participant, not just standing in the corner texting. It's really so that they can get to know you as a person, outside of the classroom realm. They want to know that you are a well-rounded person, who has interests outside of vet med, and can express themselves.

Yea, im in-state. If there's nothing wrong with your app, you wont hear anything. From what Ive been told, not hearing back is a good thing. Supposedly you will get an email saying when your app is avail. Happy Holidays 🙂

One week until my interview!! I know everyone must be getting really excited and nervous!!! 😀. Today I'm going suit shopping.. Ive been working so much that I haven't had time to go find one! :xf: :xf: that I can find one .. It never fails that when I really need something I can never find it. Let's hope suit shopping doesn't go that way.

When is everyone interviewing?? There are a lot of TBD dates on the interview thread.

Best of :luck: :luck: :luck: to everyone!!

ETA- guess I haven't looked at the interview thread in a while.. There's only 2 missing interview dates mising lol I'll be there the 6th so if anyone wants to meet up on the 6th let me know!! 😀

I finally had time to suit shop yesterday and could find absolutely nothing! 🙁 Hope you've got better luck than I did!

I just bought a purple long sleeved dress top for my interview (already had slacks and a blazer). I'd really like to find new shoes before I leave, though.

Suit shopping was a Success!!!! :highfive: :soexcited:

Ann Taylor had their suits marked 50% off!! So I got a 😀really nice dark grey suit and a green shirt to go with it! Now to just find shoes! Thank goodness my grandma can hem bc the pants are just a little too long but the jacket fits great!

I'm so relieved!!! 😀

I hope you find something ASAP Parula!!!!

And a bit of advice I received from a first year- bring a different pair of shoes for the tour of the school!! (I'll be changing into flats)

AHHHH I'm glad for you! I'm going to go after work tomorrow and see if I can last minute anything...I have nice clothes I usually wear to research conferences, I'm just not sure if a skirt is appropriate or not? Everyone seems to wear pants to these...I was having a pant size issue, apparently I'm an odd number and could only even numbers....

From what I've read, a skirt is fine as long as it is like a skirt suit If that makes sense lol. I'd say just make sure you look professional in the skirt, and that when you sit down that it doesnt ride up, that would be bad lol

lol yeah, a skirt is fine as long as it's professional, which if you wear it at conferences and such, it must be. I wore one 🙂

🙂 Thanks so much, my panic level is set to extreme right now...can't wait to get the interviewing done with!

Wowwwww, I can't believe it's so soon. It took me ages to figure out what I was wearing too...and of course I have an EPIC cold right now - the can't breathe out of my nose and coughing every 5 seconds kind. I have the greatest luck. I'll be leaving early Thursday morning for my interview at 2:00 pm on Friday. I'm driving from Georgia with some of my family. How's the weather up there? I'm trying to find all my warm clothes! I'm so used to southern weather..

Maybe I will meet some of y'all. I'm an Asian girl with cat eye glasses and stuffy nose ;D

It's supposed to be in the 20s and 30s for the rest of the week, so bring a coat for sure!! As far as roads, they are clear here in MO, and unless it's snowed anywhere over this past weekend, you should have a pretty nice drive up (my husband and I drove back to Columbia from the Atlanta area last week).

Hopefully you can knock that cold. Never fun to be meeting new people when you don't feel good. Maybe I'll see you around, and if not, good luck! :luck::luck:

For those interviewing tomorrow, I'll be at the lunch, and I'll be there for tours for a couple hours afterward.

Interview went well! They pretty much only asked me about my VMCAS, so make sure you read through it and are fresh on all your experiences before you go! They're really nice, looking forward to the tour of campus next!

So two nights ago, I dreamed that I went to my MU interview in a long sleeve white t-shirt with an Old Navy flag t-shirt over it and jeans. I had had some sort of incident with my suit and couldn't wear it, so I got to the interview and took off the Old Navy t-shirt because I figured that was the best I could do. And then in the interview the only question they asked me was why I wasn't wearing a suit... which took me 15 minutes to explain. It was a disturbing dream, to say the least.

Yaaay! 😀 So glad it went well!! 😀 What did you think about campus!? 😀

It's very pretty, lots of hills and trees. It was funny, since I drove the difference in land use between Missouri and Illinois was pretty striking...It's so easy to think living in a corn desert is normal! 🙂

The tour was great, I would really recommend going on it if you've got time. They answered all my questions then some! I wasn't too crazy about the idea of Mizzou before my interview but my mind totally changed after going today, I could definitely see myself (and my SO) living there happily.

Very exciting!! We are definitely going on the tour and to the lunch/ student panel. Did they say how many they are interviewing? Any other tips/ advice?

Eeeek I'm getting so excited!

I overheard them saying there were like 237, but it will be more like 230 interviewing since people drop after they get in other places. They said they're planning on sending acceptances to 120 and that'll come out to about 60 out of state that actually attend.

Let's see, other advice...really the interview was laid back, low stress, and lots of laughing. They asked me things directly from my VMCAS and I didn't have any hard or tricky questions. It was a lot of "It says you did this, tell me about it." They asked why I wanted to be a vet, why some of my experience had prepared me for being a vet, annnnddd really that was about all I remember.

I would say that you should make sure you have question(s) to ask them all down and rehearsed. When they asked if I had questions I hadn't realized that 15 minutes had passed so I looked at the clock and forgot what I was going to ask for a second!

Good luck, you'll be fine, relax and you'll rock it!!! And don't forget to let us know how it goes!

Hey, I have an interview coming up on Saturday at Mizzou and I have a question about the day's activities. I have an interview around 3 PM, so, should I show up in the morning for the tour or is that specifically for the morning shift of interviews?

Thanks for the information! It's so exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time!

Good luck everyone!:luck:

I don't think that it matters, the impression that I got from the email was that you could go anytime that you wanted up until the tours were over.

Yeah, people were going on the tour before and after their interviews, they didn't seem to care which you did.

Good luck everyone!!

Thanks for the information!

Now I just have to figure out what to do Friday and Saturday night in exotic Columbia.

Now I just have to figure out what to do Friday and Saturday night in exotic Columbia.

You will get an info packet once you check in with places to eat around town. The ambassadors don't mind if you ask them what they like to do either, and most of us will happily go out to eat with you and show you around downtown 🙂

thanks for all the help!

One more thing...are we supposed to bring anything to the interview? I read in the attachments that they don't want any papers or any other materials...just want to make EXTRA sure because I'm seeing on some other threads that some students bring pen and paper?

I haven't brought anything to either of the 2 interviews I've had already. I don't know if anyone had ever really needed anything, have they?

Sent from my HTC Glacier using SDN Mobile

It's totally fine not to bring anything. From what I've been seeing, most people bring nothing. The interview is really not meant to be stressful, as they focus on you and what you wrote on your application. As long as you can talk about what you put down, you'll be fine 🙂

Thanks guys! You respond really fast. I'll see you tomorrow scb44f, mayhaps!

I am getting soooo excited!! we are leaving in the morning... Going to St. Louis to see some friends for Friday night/ Saturday morning, then heading to Columbia Saturday afternoon.. Then interview is Sunday!

I'm very sad my mom can't go, she was diagnosed with the FLU 😱 yesterday 🙁 she has been so excited to see the school... Now I'm doing everything in my power to prevent myself from catching it as well!! Another bottle of Emergen-C here I come!

I will be there tomorrow at lunch and for a couple of hours afterwards! Hint: my first initial on here matches my first name. Feel free to introduce yourself!

I've missed so many of your posts!

Like someone said, bring another pair of shoes for the tour if you wear heels to the interview. I've taken a few ladies on tours who struggled with heels in the plastic booties. 🙂

All the ambassadors are more than willing to answer questions before, during, or after the tours. We also have van tours of the main campus and.CoMo. And those tours can be done whenever you want; if you'd rather do your interview one day and come back and hang out and tour the next, that's fine. And heads up, the bookstore is closing by 3 every day, so if you want to check it out and pick up some swag, you'll have to do it before then.

I'll be there every day, so if you all see an ambassador with a hoop nose ring, say hi. 🙂

Haha, I don't get to see the guy until after. But definitely something to look forward to! My interview is 11:15. I'm trying to relax and not freak out too much since I already have one acceptance, but I'd rather be at Mizzou!

Will you be hanging around for the lunch? If so, I'll be there! Our plan is to go on a tour, go to the lunch and then my interview is at 2.

Btw, Congrats on your Cornell acceptance!!! So very exciting! I'm definitely in a calm freak out mode.. Mizzou is my #1 by far!!! So im very excited and nervous at the same time!!!

Eta: good luck to everyone interviewing today!!!!!!! :luck: :xf: :luck:

Yup, I'll be at the lunch! We should definitely plan to say hi. I'm hoping to do a tour too, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to do it. If I can get on the first tour we should be done in plenty of time for my interview...I really need to sit down and plan this better. heh.

When do you think you'll be at lunch?

I'm hoping to go on a tour at 1030 so that it will be over right about noonish when lunch starts.. We will see how that goes lol
