Mizzou c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yaaay! Glad to see a good review for Dexter!

Yeah, they do have a pretty hefty deposit you have to pay, including a pet deposit per pet, but I plan on being here all four years, so it wasn't too hard to stomach. I know another vet student who lives in the same duplex as me, and the woman next door works at the VMTH (we have totally opposite schedules though so I don't think I'd even recognize her ).

I live at Parks Edge which is right across the street from a middle school AND a city park, so it is super convenient to go out for walks and stuff. Most everyone here has pets, and there is a dog park about 2 miles down the road, and you can actually walk to it from the park that is across from our duplex.

I'm about 10-15 minutes from school depending on traffic, and it is easy to get to/from school, two grocery stores, and a few restaurants. As their website says, the backyards vary in size because some of the duplexes sit on a cul de sac, but they are still of sufficient size. We do have to mow our own lawns, but there are kids in the neighborhood, so you could probably pay one of them to do it lol. UPS is comfortable leaving packages, which is convenient for Purina's free food program. I have classmates who live in places where the delivery people won't leave the food, so they have to go pick it up.

Really, the only bad things I've had happen is our foundation has settled a bit (we told management and they elected not to do anything which is fine because the doors and windows still shut) and a middle-school-aged-kid ding-dong-ditched my house and left a burning bag of dog poop on my front porch. I poured water on it, put it in the trash, and then later a boy came up to tell me that he was sorry that happened and he tried to talk is friend out of it 🙄 We have enough nice/cute kiddos in the neighborhood to make up for it though lol. Halloween is especially fun! I got to see Thor, Batman AND Spiderman this year.

It is also a very quiet neighborhood, which is nice for me. I can't speak for their other housing developments though.

Hmmm... I think that about covers it. Let me know if you have any other questions about Columbia or the school though!

Thanks for all of the great info!! I've emailed them and am waiting for a response!!

Are there any places to avoid all together?

Some people like to say, "Avoid the north side of town!" But that's where I live. I think anywhere in town is going to be safe enough, but **** does happen, even in Columbia. However, being a normal vet student who isn't out and about at 2 am is going to prevent you from seeing those sorts of things.

I have friends who live all over town though. Some by the mall in one-person apartments, some on the south side of town in other duplexes, some who rent whole houses on the SE side of town, some who rent/own houses outside Columbia altogether.

I personally cannot do apartments, so that automatically took some places off the list that just happened to be in areas I wasn't so comfortable in. In the end, it really does come down to what YOU are comfortable with because I don't think there's an innately bad part of town that you could live in (except for maybe part of business loop 70 where the bars and strip clubs are lol).

I emailed Kathy today asking about that, and she said no, but they're planning on sending the rest of the letters out on Monday.:scared:

Good luck to everyone else who still doesn't know:luck:
Ugh. Monday? I waaaaant toooooo knooooow! 🙂

Anyone know where I can send a thank you letter to? I'd assume just directly to Kathy??

In the past there was a line in the invitation to interview that said not to send thank you letters to your interviewers. Is that line still in there? Or do you want to thank the school for something outside the interview room? If it's the latter, I'd say send it to Kathy.

I just read through the emails I had gotten and I didn't see anything saying not to send one. I'm going to send one because I truly enjoyed the visit there and everyone was just so kind and inviting!

There is a line that says do not send thank you's.. I'm at work and font have everything in front of me, but they did say don't send stuff.

Yeah, they said not to send thank yous.

I'll take everyone's word on it since I still can't find that line. Thanks 🙂

Any one else hear anymore good news??

So I heard that letter of acceptance were sent out on Monday. Has anyone received anything yet and are they also sending out rejection letters as well or are they doing rejections via email?

Nothing here today... Still waiting...

I haven't received anything 🙁 i wonder if they sent out all decisions or just acceptances... the suspense is killing me!!!

If it makes anyone feel better, I received my acceptance on Monday and it doesn't seem like any other SDNers received any on that day, which would leave me to believe that they might be sending some out sporadically. Mine would have been mailed on Friday, and Kathy never mentioned anything about mailing any on Friday, only Monday...so you never know for sure when anything will be mailed! Hang in there because no news is good news.

And I'm on another alternate list! That's my third one!

Hang in there guys! I've heard that Mizzou goes pretty far into the wait list!!!

:xf: :xf: :luck: :luck:

I'm waiting to hear back from my IS school but I will likely be denying my offer of admission after I hear and I have another OOS friend who is doing the same. So two spots already!

I'm waiting for my IS, as well. Most likely declining...so that's three spots open it looks like

I'm so excited to meet my new classmates!! Anyone else decide Mizzou is the place for them?

Not yet, still waiting on my IS as well, VMRCVM. HURRY UP TECH I WANT TO KNOW!!

still haven't heard anything from Mizzou! Do rejections even take this long to be sent out? 🙁

These 20in of snow on the ground is making me say, screw whatever happens with Wisconsin, I'm just coming to Mizzou. I just want to curl up in bed until it is spring. So yay for 98% sure I'm coming to Mizzou!

Just sayin, we do have snow in Missouri. AND we aren't particularly good at cleaning it up OR driving in it (Drivers see white stuff -->:scared:). Plus it normally tends to be the wetter, packing, icey variety since we are a warmer. And sometimes snow one day and 75 degrees the next. However it is true the snow is never 20", melts within a few days, and usually is few and far between. But we also have HOT summers. And floods. And droughts. And tornados. And earthquakes. Sometimes all in one year. I've never heard weather be a selling point for Missouri!

However, it is my homestate- the landscape is very beautiful and diverse. Everywhere I go out of state, I am reminded how much I love home and want to stay here. Plus you can't go wrong with Mizzou's program😍

Lol Columbia got about that from one storm a little over 2 years ago. They did shut down campus, including the med and vet schools, for 2-3 days. It is totally not the norm, but it happens. I went to undergrad about an hour and a half south of Columbia and I'm happy to report that we get a higher snow:ice ratio than my undergrad town ever did. It will still melt and refreeze, but the initial onslaught is not ice like it is in other parts of MO.

I'm in the middle of a blizzard right now. Classes are still on. Grrrr SDSU.

I'm so excited to meet my new classmates!! Anyone else decide Mizzou is the place for them?
Yep!!! I am so excited!!!

Waitlisters - I am sure many of you will be there with us!! Don't give up hope!

Hi everyone! I've been a long time stalker of SDN, but just recently joined. I also got accepted to Missouri! I was wondering how you found the facebook group?

I'm a wait-lister, but there's a link on page 9 of this thread in post #427.

Looks like I'll be spending the next four years in Columbia as well! Now it's just time to find a place to live...

I just posted on this thread but I'll post here, too.

I might be coming to Mizzou, still waiting to hear from my IS VMRCVM. I'll be looking for a place to live- I have an almost 2 year old Golden (he will be 2 in March). Very well behaved (minus counter surfing and trash) but I just block the kitchen off. Anyway, he gets along great with other dogs and cats. We are currently working on obedience and rally titles with him. He already has his RN and CGC. So, I will definitely be bringing him. I'd love to find a place with a fenced in yard, or at the very least a place with a very close fenced in area he can run around in. It would be great if I could find someone who also has a larger dog he can play with (he is about 61lbs).

As for a roomie and a little about myself, I am 22 years old, female, my hobbies include video games, anime... you know nerdy stuff like that! So it would be awesome if I could find someone with the same interests.

I Anticipate having roomies in the fall. I've emailed some management companies about condos/ townhomes etc. but I haven't received a single response which is pretty frustrating. But it's still pretty early.

I can't wait to see everyone deciding where they are gonna go, then there will be plenty of roomies to choose from lol

Awesome job with a headstart! I'll start doing that once I know where I'm going!! I want to try to find some roomies at the open house that I'll be going to.

Are you gonna go to the open house in April if you choose Mizzou?

Yep!! Hope to see you there?

Yes!!!! Me and my parents will be there. My poor mom caught the flu just days before my interview and didn't get to come so we are making the trip for her to see it and to look for a place to live. I'm pretty pumped!!

That is why I am going, too, so my Mom can see it! She wasn't able to come out for the interview either 🙂 Should be a great time! I invited my Dad to go but I doubt he will, lol.
