Thanks a lot. But it looks like its mixed. Some high overall gpa. Others have great above average Mcats. But it's a mix. I applied earlier so I guess im not the worm lol.

Accepted at 11:09 am today!!!! So excited and relieved!

3.4 cGPA 3.4 sGPA 28 MCAT Complete: 8/02

My GPA is low, but has shown a strong upward curve the past few years, ~3.8 average in 300 and 400 level courses. Those of you with low GPAs, don't lose hope! I definitely did not expect to receive admittance today...

I can share more of my info if anyone is interested, and congrats to everyone else who was accepted today!!

Congrats! Look like my stats. Are you in state or out of state? Could you share your approx EC, volunteer, and work hours if possible? thanks!

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that I have an obscene amount of volunteer hours (was a volunteer EMT at my school for all four years of undergrad and worked like 40 hours a week as a senior...probably why my science GPA was as low as it was 😉). I know that volunteer hours is a big part of their weighting, so maybe that made up for my below-average science GPA.

Perfect mcat. You had to wait 18 days to get accepted to MSUCOM. Wow. I'm sure you'll get into u of m. So u could just withdraw now lol joking congrats.

Congrats! Look like my stats. Are you in state or out of state? Could you share your approx EC, volunteer, and work hours if possible? thanks!

Thanks, and no problem! Im in-state, and a first time applicant. EC hours were around 1500, most of which were from playing competitive/college hockey. Volunteer hours were about 600, with most being from volunteering in a hospital. Work was about 2000 hours, with 200 of them as a TA for a nursing anatomy/physiology lab.

hope that helps, good luck!!

If you have a way to get me into U of M, I'd withdraw. I think my shot with U of M might be lower considering I am White and a dude.

Hey guys any idea how soon canadians start to get accepted, I'd like to get some plans depending

E-mails.

I was a little bummed at first (who am I kidding, I nearly pissed my pants with excitement) because I really wanted an "official" acceptance letter on letterhead and everything. However, they ask for your mailing address so they can send you an official acceptance letter.

Can't wait to visit!

Haha... and you should change your name from 'AspiringDO' to 'DO-to-be' now!

# of Canadians who got accepted on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th week were 1, 3, and 2, respectively, according to last year's thread. This of course only included SDN'ers who were willing to post their status.

Congrats everyone, I also deferred last year and will be joining you as a member of this class. Msucom is a great school and we're gonna make the class of 2017 an amazing one! To those still waiting, it's really really early! So don't lose any hope yet

From this info: game is almost over for canadians if we don't hear by the end of September?

Last year the ~20 spots for Canadians got filled pretty quickly because they all applied pretty early and had pretty good stats...so it's really important to apply early as a Canadian because there's only ~20 spots

However, about 4-5 of them near the end of applications withdrew because they had been accepted to Canadian or USMD schools, so they took canadians on the waitlist.

Has anyone who was accepted tried to select a visit day? I just logged in and only see one date (Oct 26). I was really hoping to go before then so I could decide on site selection as soon as possible. Any insight on this from other applicants/current students?

you can always visit on your own...just have a look around..talk to med students and ask them questions...that's all you need.

I feel you....I'm Canadian as well...just finished secondary and forms yesterday...I hope I still have a chance...but if UBCVan is right, then probably i'm already outta the game...🙁🙁🙁🙁

if it helps, last year I sent all the secondary at the end of August and got accepted 2 weeks later. didn't apply early right? I think Sunnydi (?) posted the dates of completion and acceptance for last year's people; I'm included; have a look for exact dates. so don't lose hope 👍

It's not "game over" at all for the Canadians that did not apply very early at all! 🙂 I didn't finish sending in all my application materials to MSUCOM (completed secondary, references etc) until late October, maybe even November and I was put on the wait list in January! I was notified in May that I was accepted for the class of 2016, but deferred until this year.

Applying early is obviously the best thing to do, but don't get discouraged if you applied "late".

So how often do they continue to hand out acceptances? Every Wednesday err?

does anyone have any pictures of MSUCOM at east lansing? i can't make it up there until late october and would love to see what fee hall looks like on the inside.

Thank you for the encouragement, I feel a little bit more secure now🙂... Do you mind sharing your stats, just so I can get a rough estimation of my chance🙂...I'm from Vancouver as well, but did my undergrad in U of T...always miss Van...nicest summer days ever:xf:

Vancouver got the best summers!!

I had 3.8 & 26 & lots and lots of ECs.

good luck and never lose hope👍

Does anyone know, if additionally to evaluation forms u can submit other LORs? For instance PCOM have u send Dean's letter, but then u can send some others too.

Is it to late to send in primar app?

Depends on your stats. If you're already verified it'll still be a week or two delay for you to get it. If you think it's worth it and are really interested in the school then go for it! 👍

but considering their favoring instate instate students...

If anyone has questions about DMC or living Detroit feel free to PM me. I don't get on here much anymore, but I'll do my best to answer any questions. Also, our class (2016) is under a new curriculum, so I can let you know what its like.

That would be awesome if you could comment on the new curriculum going on! I'm sure everyone here would appreciate it, especially me 😀

Hey, hows it going!

I can't PM you for some reason, but I would love to hear more about the DMC campus. How the building(s) is/are on the inside, what the facilities are like.

I visited both EL and DMC a few weeks back (self guided tours haha) and got a very different feeling from each. EL was your typical Uni/ college setup. Wonderful campus, definite buzz of student activity everywhere. DMC was more of a downtown hospital district feel, and to me is a little more "real" more of what I am looking for i think. It would be good to get some feedback from someone who goes there every day! Honestly, I prefer the vibe at DMC, as I am not so interested in the big 10 college feel. One worry I do have, is feeling isolated from the rest of your classmates, professors and well... the rest of MSU. Are all your classes restricted to a few rooms in single building or do you have to move around a lot? Wayne has some nice facilities at DMC as well, are you able to use their space at all?

Thanks!

ps: also interested in anything you can comment on regarding the new curriculum 🙂

Ditto 🙂 Another couple questions:

1. Do they assign sites in the order that they receive your preference? I called the admissions office to ask about some confusing wording on the acceptance paperwork, and she seemed to indicate that when you send it back has no bearing on where you fall in the site assignment order.

2. What's it like having the majority of your lectures telecast?

3. Do you feel like you have an advantage being close to such great clinical sites? I realllllly want to choose one of the Sinais as my base hospital, but I can't tell if being at DMC gives you any sort of advantage when it comes to that.

Yeah, for some reason it says my PM's is turned off. Not sure why--if you are on facebook look for the MSU Canadians group. We have representatives from each campus. I kind of wish I picked Macomb or EL, because it would fit my lifestyle better. I drive 15 min to go the the gym on weekends and use Wayne State's gym during the week. I used to run a lot and now I don't at all. Also, no grocery shopping in Detroit. In terms of the quality of education, I think its the same everywhere. I go to class, but am one of the few because you can live stream them from home. New curriculum is a challenge, it moves fast. All our exams are in one day in one 3 hour block exam. It's too early to tell how it will go. We just had a block exam today.

I think the sites are determined later, once everyone has submitted the paperwork. The reason I THINK they do it like that, because they told me (and say it online) that people who defer do NOT get their site selection carried over to the next year= does not seem to be a first come, first serve setup.

Hmm, some of the things you've touched on here are reasons why I'm leaning towards living in Windsor (Canadian suburbs of Detroit hah).

Can you just tell me more about the classes? Personally, I enjoy going to class, interacting with the professor etc. I don't know, it forces me to pay attention. Also I like the idea of talking things over with the person next to you etc. How many people actually go to class at DMC?

I wonder if its the same story at the other campuses...

Hoping Canadians get some love from MSU tomorrow!

During the week I'd say 30% go to class, fridays almost no one because there are no labs. I usually go because I feel its a waste of time to stream it later. I'll usually review it myself the same day.

I wouldn't live in Windsor, crossing everyday would be a hassle for me.
