Hey all those OOSers..i heard that they accepted 29 and will only start calling off that large wait list if 10 people (1/3) decline their offers...ouch!!
That being said, if any OOS people that know they are definitely going to wind up taking an offer somewhere else, or if any OOS people on the wait list know they want to go somewhere else, please don't wait and call them ASAP and let them know to take you off the listtt or to decline the seat officially welllll before the April 15th deadline if you are CERTAIN you are not going to go!!! Please! This will be extremely important and helpful to others... That way, if one of us (those that are praying for seat here) somehow gets called off the wait list by some miracle, we won't have to worry about already putting deposits down on schools/living situations!!!
Good luck to those on the wait list in my shoes, hoping i don't need to put down a deposit at one of the other schools! Also, good luck to those accepted, if NCSU is your dream school then CONGRATS!!!!!!
I am calling today to remove myself from the wait list as I've accepted a seat elsewhere. Good luck to everyone!Hey all those OOSers..i heard that they accepted 29 and will only start calling off that large wait list if 10 people (1/3) decline their offers...ouch!!

Hey NCSU CVM CO 2019 people! I just sent in my acceptance paperwork today, and I am so excited to be a part of the Wolfpack!
If anyone is looking for a roommate for next year, let me know! I thought I would post this here because I have not seen a Facebook page started yet for the CO 2019.
This varies a bit class by class -- each class has their own personality. Even the least "bonded" class though still is very close. There is a distinct lack of the type of competition described to me at some other schools. The class of 2018 is EXTREMELY close. We all hang out, we celebrate birthdays, we arrange tailgates, we study together. They're 99 of the best people I've ever had the chance to meet. NCSU does a really good job of fostering that environment too, by just having a precedent that that's the kind of class we support. Also, we have school wide socials at the CVM with the dean which is always load of fun and SCAVMA is super active, which helps bridge inter-class separation. In the end though, your class will be what you make of it. It's all about attitude. Can any current students help answer my question: what is the, I guess, camaraderie of the school? Like do you guys have crazy team spirit and have tail gating events for games and such?
They definitely do, it was the reason that I applied here.Ok, here's another question! (I know I'm practically spamming the thread, Im super sorry- I promise it's my last one! I just can't wait til I head down there in March 🙄🤣!!!)
I'm an OOS student and was wondering if NCSU allows residency after the first year for tuition purposes? I can't seem to find any specific statement of that claim on the website 🤔
Thanks for any help!
Yup! And as long as you don't do anything dumb, like have your parents buy you a house here or send you money every month, most people get it!Ok, here's another question! (I know I'm practically spamming the thread, Im super sorry- I promise it's my last one! I just can't wait til I head down there in March 🙄🤣!!!)

If money is your driving factor, here are the schools you would want to aim for:Is it easy to be granted instate after a year? I'm trying to compile a list of schools to apply to, and money is a driving factor!
When I called admissions a few months back and spoke to a person in the financial aid dept, they said realistically, it was not as common anymore to switch to IS. She said if you're young, like under 25, it's hard to prove you are completelyyy independent and even if you meet all of the criteria, the committee can still deny it because of your age. She advised me to take off at least a year or two and save up to show that I can pay my rent/tuition/personal expenses because they check all that now and make sure you're not/haven't been receiving funds from somewhere else for a while. How accurate is that -- do any current students feel like it's commonplace within their class of OOS students, or much less common now?
I am not sure exactly, I just remember being transferred to someone that was more of an expert on tuition/residency etc. That's so interesting, I wonder why they would make it sound so difficult ! hahAdmissions at NC State, or the CVM proper? I don't know a single OOS student in my class who didn't gain residency.
My guess is that you were talking to someone who was thinking you were an undergrad... it's extremely hard for them to change residency. But vet students generally have great success.I am not sure exactly, I just remember being transferred to someone that was more of an expert on tuition/residency etc. That's so interesting, I wonder why they would make it sound so difficult ! hah
Uber and other cab services are available, and we have a bus system. Our mass transit isn't anything like a lot of big cities, though.Do any current students use "uber car services"? I'm not driving down in March but I want to check out Raleigh a little more and was wondering if it's easily accessible and if it's a good service?!
Also, is there a Chinatown in Raleigh? Lol
If you're Chinese and looking for decent, authentic Chinese food in Raleigh, unfortunately, you won't find it. NC native here, ethnically Asian, lived in Durham for a few years with loads of friends in Chapel Hill and Raleigh...and all the Chinese restaurants I know of in the Piedmont/Triangle area are Americanized (e.g. General Tso's chicken, hot & sour soup). Some are quite good at what they do! Passable restaurants of other Asian varieties (Korean, Thai, Vietnamese), but I'm personally too snobby for them after living in DC, LA, and NYC. Astoundingly, there ARE bubble tea/boba shops, and some really fantastic Asian grocery stores. Also, is there a Chinatown in Raleigh? Lol
If money is your driving factor, here are the schools you would want to aim for:
IS, NC-state, Mizzou, Wisconsin, Ohio. I applied to the first 4 and Kansas, but that just has to do with the fact that my sister went to Kansas.
To all those that I listed, it is fairly easy to be granted IS (you have to meet the requirements, but the requirements are manageable - Wisconsin can't get IS, just has lowest OOS tuition)
I'll be moving to NCSU to work at the CVM in June-ish....do you guys have a local housing list or something that you'd be willing to pass to me? Odds I have time to go look for a place are slim to none, I am sorta hoping to score a nice, quiet, cheap, kitty friendly place +/- furniture from the former occupant.
In classic equine fashion, I'm doing a second equine internship. I'm looking forward to no longer living in the sticks... I'm not looking forward to the move!If you bug student services, there's a housing guide that they update yearly for the incoming students that I'm sure they'd be willing to pass along to you. You can also ask them to forward your interest along to the graduating class - I'm sure there's at least a couple people with jobs cross-country that have places that fit your requirements. 🙂 Are you doing a residency here?
I've lived in the same apartment since undergrad so I'm not very helpful...
You are eligible to apply for residency reclassification for tuition purposes, one year after you have completed your domiciliary acts. We work closely with the Office of Student Legal Services to ensure that you have the information you need to complete your residency application. They will be in touch with you regarding the various details you will need to consider as we get closer to May. If you have specific questions regarding this process do not hesitate to contact [email protected]Ok, here's another question! Mix of both! Mostly didactic, but even they have PBL aspects. At least one pure PBL course a semester. Is the teaching system at NCSU problem-based? Or is it strictly lectures and didactic teaching? Bc I read that there's a course in intro to clinical problem solving and it sounds pretty PBL-based.
They're a work in progress, and part of the new curriculum, but currently this is how it goes. One series teaches you the diagnostic process. Others correlate with your current coursework in a specific class. They try to line up what's happening in each course too. Usually small group with large group recaps and introductions. Thanks @wolfpackprevet !
And do the subject topics of these PBL courses sorta correlate with those you get from other lectures? Or are they pretty different? And I imagine they function in small groups?
@Swongy Here is a link to a page which provides the course description for each course you will complete as a student in our DVM program. The curriculum is broken out by year along the right-hand side of the page. http://www.cvm.ncsu.edu/dvm/@protoplaster and @gugudoll y'all agree?
not every semester. second semester second year we don't have any PBL currently. though they may be changing that with the new curriculum .Mix of both! Mostly didactic, but even they have PBL aspects. At least one pure PBL course a semester.
I think our current plan in the new curriculum is to have one every semester, or at least very close to it. We had one first semester and have two second semester. They outlined it at the beginning of the year but I don't totally remember.not every semester. second semester second year we don't have any PBL currently. though they may be changing that with the new curriculum .
