Hi all! Got an II this past Monday, earliest spot was April 8th pm (which I took!). My stats are 27MCAT, 3.7cGPA, 3.6 sGPA, a BA in Anthropology and BS in Biology, plenty EC/research/shadowing/volunteering etc

I'm currently sitting on two decisions from LECOM-B and UNECOM, has anyone that has also been to those schools give any comparisons? Any tips for the interview?

does anybody know the next time their admissions committee meets again this month?
 
anyone get any confirmation recently about their deposit being received? I sent mine in the beginning of the week, but couldn't get through when I tried to call Friday about it being received.
 
For folks who got interviwed before March, do you all know your status (accepted/wait listed)or no?
 
Yeah, it appears that 4th week has yet to hear back yet. The postmark for the bulk of 2nd and 3rd week acceptances was the 26th, so perhaps we just missed the cutoff for that committee meeting. They say 2-4 weeks and our 4th week is next week. So I'm feeling next week will be when most of the acceptances go out. Likely, first week March too.

Just crazy pre-med predictions though, haha. Since no other 4th week applicants have posted an acceptance yet, I believe we are in the clear for now.
 
I'm getting anxious waiting for the decision. I was reading last years forum and the applicants seemed to get waitlisted a lot earlier than this date which has me worried. Last years waitlist also didn't seem to move much. :meh: I hope we hear good news in the next week or 2!
 
Has anyone seen an unofficial match 2015 list for Nycom on sdn? Can't seem to find it and so curious!

Nothing really too stressful...A overview of the school, curriculum, tour, etc and the interview itself. The interview is pretty straight forward, why a DO?, why NYIT, etc and maybe a little conversation here and there. The best piece of advice I can give you is what the admissions rep told me..."don't lie!" They say its closed file but I'm not so sure... so if they do ask you something about your application (like an MCAT score) just be honest. Good luck its gonna go great!

LOL I know I have my own theories about how they are doing it... it definitely seems like they have a batch of acceptances and then they roll them out over a week or two. Just to throw a monkey wrench into the equation there were alot of people who interviewed in February 3rd week that were supposed to be in the 1st week.

Have you tried calling today? I sent mine two weekends ago for the March 20th deadline but it looks like they still hadn't received it yet and I am getting nervous (even more nervous because I am mailing out of state). I can't tell where the hold up is. :/

I called and they told me they haven't gotten mine yet either but not to be concerned due to the weather. not sure what to think lol guess I'll wait some more

Hey, mine was sent in about two weeks ago and I emailed them and received confirmation about it last Thursday (03/19)...I also got an email the next day about the background check being established and saying they will follow up soon... thats where I am right now...anyone got further yet?

Was the background check email with the subject "Application Station - Student Edition"?
I received that and I hope it means my deposit was received. I got paranoid and mailed it via certified mail with tracking since it had a $1500 check enclosed.

Yes, thats the email and yeah I think thats one of their confirmation things...I guess were gonna get a paper packet soon too with info and the app to the DPC program.
 
Received interview today for April 8th. I will have to reschedule my interview to any earlier date so does anyone know if there is any earlier dates available before April 8?

I actually clicked on it wondering if this was a shortcut to an II 😀

I've withdrawn from almost all of my applications except for those in NY (currently at TouroCOM - Harlem); wondering if II's are even remotely possible from NYCOM at this point?...

Haha my mistake. Anyway, yeah interview invite for me was an email to call and set a date. But that was back a few months ago. Did not have an option on the date and it was about a month from the original email/call.

They accept a lot of people in general (#2 class size in the nation (DO+MD)) and definitely get a lot of people who withdraw a seat late in the acceptance season. Lots of applicants, acceptances and seat forfeitures due to location and class size. I would stick it out. Set yourself a date that you withdraw if that makes it more bearable.

I've sent then emails w/ updates (I'm in a grad program right now) so I'm wondering if that's effective at all? Not sure.. I've called before to ask for updates on my application and received the typical "we will contact you when we need to" response..
 
Is anyone considering HPSP? I looked at the residency placement list and there were quite a few doing military residencies...
 
Does anyone know stats of what % of applicants get interviewed at nycom?

And how many of the intervieweews are accepted after interviewing?
 
Did anyone get asked about euthenasia during their interview? I felt like I got grilled during my interview on that topic and a couple others. Everyone said the interview was more conversational and laid back. Mine definitely was not. I stuck to my guns and explained my opinion but I don't know if the interviewer agree. Kind of really nervous now 🙁

Don't be nervous! They probably just wanted to see how you react under pressure. You sound like you stood true to yourself and your beliefs, and even if the interviewer does not agree with you on your stance, they aren't assessing you on whether you are "right" or "wrong" in their eyes, they want to see how you reason through a topic that may be controversial and defend your ground. I didn't encounter this in my interview at NYIT-COM, but in another interview I did, so I can feel for you, but be confident and don't overthink it, I'm sure you rocked your interview! You should be fine. Consider your circumstances. If you maintained your composure, stuck to your guns, and answered the question the best you can then I would not worry. Someone else said the same thing, that it was definitely not low stress, and said (I believe) that they got in. Look up a few pages.

Remember, if you had a disadvantage based on your specific interviewer, then everyone who got that interviewer would be in the same situation. I cannot imagine that one interviewer would have an 80% acceptance rate and another a 20%. Sometimes how you feel afterwards is not an indicator of your chance of being accepted. It can even be deceiving, I can attest to that.

If it makes you feel better, I probably would have paused a few seconds before twiddling my thumbs then said, "That's... a.. good question..." but, before they can even attempt to sooth my pre-med nerves I would have started screaming at the top of my lungs and sprinted for the door. I would then have tripped over a chair and started crawling out the door to lock eyes with someone in the PM session spitting out the words, "run." as my interviewer pulls me into the room by the legs.

I think you did fine! I'm here hoping for yah!

Supposedly all the applicants for the particular session (AM/PM) are asked the same questions. There are the basic DO questions, and then they'll throw in a wildcard to see your reaction, thought process, any experience you might have on the topic etc. My guess is they want to see how you handle unexpected situations since as a Doctor we will at some point or another be put under stress and have to cope with it appropriately. The best you can do is be professional, and be yourself. Euthanasia is a controversial topic having moral, ethical, religious, and even legal conflicts, so there isn't a right or wrong answer. Personally, I wouldn't want to be committing any crimes, but there are some states that it is legalized in certain situations. But as I said, there is no right or wrong answer, only what you believe in.

By the way, has anyone who interviewed the 2nd week of March heard anything back or tried calling admissions regarding a final decision? My nerves are starting to get to me. Last cycle at this time they had already been waitlisting people. I felt my interview went well, but as I've heard, this can be deceptive.

Hey, in some parallel universe I probably ruined some interviewee's experience forever. Haha anyways, your in the clear for now. Presumably the 4th week of February has yet to hear back. Unless the entire subset of accepted students from that week is not a user of SDN. Hopefully soon though.
 
I've been looking back a few pages, and it seems they did not interview many in December, or January. I received my II Late January and the earliest I was able to schedule was 2nd week of March, and I called about an hour after the email was sent. A friend interviewed mid february and was accepted last week. I'm hoping that there are still at least 50-100 seats open being they don't appear to waitlist until they're filled up, or if they find a huge discrepancy during the interview (false information on your app etc.)

@pathadams2015, i interviewed the week of March 9th and have yet to hear anything. It's quite early though. I really wouldn't go nuts this early.

WOW! That is such a dirty question. I had a class for my masters that was geared towards medical school applications and interviews and that was one of the questions that they specifically brought up. Its a hard question because it seems like an opinion question but in many ways it is not. Euthanasia is semi legal in a few states (ex Oregon) but the official position from the AMA (American Medical Association) is that euthanasia is unethical because it complicates the idea that doctors are healers. Very tricky question, but as long as you don't sound like Dr. kevorkian JR you should be alright. 🙂

Yes...I'm considering it just not sure if I want to give 4 years to the armed service after I'm done with school. Wondering anyone else's opinion as well

Doctors are definitely healers, but not miracle workers! The biggest factor should be quality of life along with the chance of survival, as well as the estimated length of survival.
Of course this is all opinion based, which is why the interviewer asked the question. Form an opinion based on logic/reason/emotion/religion and defend your answer! That's what AMA did, and there's no reason we can't do the same. =)

This is my exact feeling. And I think the pay off for salary may depend on which specialty you end up going into. In any case though, salary should be auxiliary to choosing a specialty based on passion. But in case people were wondering, those higher paid specialties in civilian world are paid significantly less in the military (but you will of course still make a good living and enjoy all of the other military benefits). So one will want to consider ability to pay back debt as a civilian physician vs. no debt and possible "pay cut" (again, only for certain specialties and as stated before, you still get all of the many benefits of being a member of military).

Thanks guys! It seemed more like he was trying to challenge me and see how I could handle someone challenging my opinion but it was hard to tell. However when I brought up the moral, ethical and legal implications he seemed to push that patient autonomy and patient centered care should come before eveything else. I told him essentially that I agree autonomy and keeping the patient's wishes in mind are of the utmost importance but with euthanaisa being such an ethically challenging situation there are more factors to consider.

I hope you guys are right and it turns out ok! Here's to hoping! Thanks for the support 🙂
