when do classes start?

Classes started July 30th this year. You will need to be down here prior to that, though, as the White Coat Ceremony is held that weekend right before classes start.

Anyone know how long interviews are booked? Recently submitted a secondary and am crossing my fingers for the opportunity to interview!!

Interview invite here today...was complete end of August. (~3.2, 33Q).

Not sure if I'm going to go yet but for those that were wondering interview dates were available as early as next week!

Interview invite this morning!!!

I have my LECOM-B interview on 11/28 and trying to schedule this one on the day after. Anyone knows what the best (and cheapest) way to get from Sarasota to Ft. Lauderdale is?

I'm flying in from NY so just trying to save the bucks as much as I can.

Congrats! I was in the same situation as you coming from NJ. I just used a GPS to drive through. The main highways are 75 S going onto 595 E. It's about 3 1/2 to 4 hours, but the roads and area are big with easy traffic, until you get to Fort Lauderdale where there is a lot of new highway construction. It's a nice drive because there's nothing but endless miles of natural scenery. Good luck!

Ahhh crap! Turned out I waited too long to schedule it and now both dates that I originally wanted are no longer available. Guess I do have to make two trips after all 🙁

Dmr6186, thanks and congrats to you as well! When did you interview and what did you think of the schools?!

Ahhh that sucks! I interviewed in early November and did the back to back thing. Between both schools, I chose Nova. They were both nice, but I thought it over and didn't want to try my luck in doing PBL at LECOM. Also, they said we would have to relocate for all our rotations! Nova said that they help you try and stay in one place during 3rd year, so that was already a huge plus for me. I felt that everything Nova had to offer was greater than what LECOM-B had to offer. And I was accepted to both so I definitely had to think about what I wanted to do.

I also enjoyed the Fort Lauderdale area more than the Bradenton area. More city-like, and I feel it will offer a lot more in terms of diverse patient interaction compared to LECOM-B.

Interview invite this morning! Tentatively scheduled for Jan. 17th as I am not 100% sure I will be attending yet. Would love to check out this school though!

Congrats to all who were accepted! I was waitlisted here :/ I must have messed up on the interview...who knows how long the wait will be now

Congrats! Back to Florida for you. You will probably like Fort Lauderdale more than Bradenton. It is more "big city" for you.

Good luck. 🙂

I stayed at the Hampton in Plantation. Make sure you scout out the area the night before. I did not and was a little frustrated in the morning. I got lost and stuck in traffic, even with a GPS. It took me about 40 minutes to get to the school, which was supposed to be 10 minutes away.

The big problem is the freeway that is in between the school and the hotel. It is under construction, and many people want to get on/off the at the University street exit. It makes for a HUGE traffic jam. Give yourself plenty of time and know where you are going.

I skipped the tour at the end so I could get to the airport. The paperwork states that iris "required" but they only say that so that more people stay for it. Last year when it was "optional" only a few people stayed for the tour. If you are going to drive to Bradenton, you may want to think about when you want to leave. Also, have some change for the toll booth. I think it was $1 or $1.50. There may have been two, I don't remember. There is another toll bridge going from Bradenton to Tampa so have plenty of change. I only mention this because here in Oregon, toll roads/bridges are not normal. It was weird for me to encounter a toll booth. Ha ha.

Hampton Inn Plantation has a free shuttle the the airport and school.

Cool beans!!! How does that work on the morning of the interview? Did you have to let them know beforehand?

Ima be at the staybridge suites like 5 min away.

Awesome. I definitely want to look around and find a good place to eat so maybe we can meet up!

Thanks for the heads up!! I won't have a car in Ft. Lauderdale so I will most likely stick with the hotel shuttle which is probably a good thing since I'm terrible with directions lol. And I'm actually flying to Tampa first then get to Bradenton from there. Really hope I don't get lost!

Cool definitely going to check that out!!

When you arrive you tell them you're there for the nova interview. You just tell them when you need to be there by and they'll take all of you per at once that morning. They will also hold your luggage and ring it with them when they pick you up of you need to go straight to the airport. I highly recommend them. They made everything so much less nerve racking for me

Thanks for this info! I cancelled my staybridge and reserved at hampton inn plantation. Don't need to hassle with rental car anymore!!!
