I have read that some people walk to campus from their apartment. Could you recommend some affordable places within walking distance, or were those places campus housing?. Also, if you know of any that accept pets. I would like to look a few up online before I visit to make housing accommodations
.Thanks.

Thanks. My wife and I keep wavering back and forth between staying in Oregon and moving out for a new adventure. Yesterday she was all "stay in Oregon" but today she is all "ready for an adventure"

Haha. How long do you have to make your decision?

Deposits are due for both schools in December. I don't want to pay them both!

I wonder which side of the continent she will want to be on tomorrow.

I've never visited Oregon, but how can you compete with the Florida sunshine? We ARE the Sunshine State. 😎

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!! Got the email 15 minutes ago.

Has anybody who was accepted longer than a week ago receive the admissions packet in the mail?

I am not sure if I am reading your question correctly.

I interviewed more than a week ago. I was on 9/11. I received an email on 9/21 with an acceptance offer. Within a week (only a few days actually) I had my paper acceptance packet through the mail.

Just interviewed here yesterday. It was nice meeting all of you who were there interviewing. I LOVED it. Best DO school so far.

I interviewed 9/25 and was accepted 10/10 and I have not received an acceptance packet yet. Maybe it is because I am in CA so it takes longer via snail mail? Just noticed you are from Oregon, so I am not sure as to why I have not received a packet yet. I did receive an email on 10/12 asking me to update my address.

Have any of you been able to reach the admissions lady Anastasia? I've been trying to contact her for days but to no avail.

Friend interviewed at 10/4 and accepted today. 😀

"I am pleased to inform you of your acceptance to the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University."

Can't wait for mine. :xf:

Congrats! I interviewed with my close friend here and he got WL'ed today while I got accepted... bummer 🙁. But we both interviewed at KCUMB together so I'm hoping we both get accepted there!

For the people that got an acceptance today, what letter does your last name start with? I'm thinking they might be sending them out in alphabetical order since a few of us didn't get an email today?

Congratulations! I interviewed on 10/4 also. Are you the one with the new baby? I've been neurotically checking this thread to see if anyone on 10/4 got their decision, so thank you for posting your update! I hope to join ya in FL if I get in!

When were yall complete and then got II?

I received the II about 4-6 days after my secondary was submitted which was in early August. My friend submitted her secondary about 2 weeks after mine and still is yet to receive an II.

Yes that's me! She's just over a month old now! They called my friend for the WL and I got an email if that tells you anything. They explained to him exactly why the WL.

I do remember you! Awesome! Best of luck, hopefully you hear from them sooner than later!🙂 And even more-so, hopefully it's good news you receive!

I just found out today that about 75% of the AOA residencies available in the state of Florida are directly affiliated with Nova. And Florida has over 80 residencies available.
Wow

All the more reason to join me at nova

Hey neurolax, were you one of the student that did q&a? this school really impressed me. It has everything.

I was really annoyed by the short interview. Actually worried by it. They asked me basically the big four and just hushed me out do fast I never got even comfortable with the interviewers. maybe the lunch with that awesome dean count alot?

Nope, sorry! I am not a student ambassador. Glad you liked the school, and don't sweat the interview. Getting to that point is the hard part. 👍

I hope so. This school was really amazing. Blew me away completely. Better than all the other schools I have seen so far. It had literally EVERYTHING you would possibly want in a medical school and in school in general. I just got home, so I will try to write something about my time there.

I really felt like the school community was tight. And I loved the fact that I was right near Ft. Lauderdale, one of a very hedonistic big city in the country where there will be plenty of interesting pathology exposures and needed souls to help and take care of.

FYI, if anyone is looking for a place to stay I HIGHLY recommend where I stayed. It is called Ocean Holiday Motel. It is right on 1A (freeway that runs along the beach - extremely beautiful) a few blocks below Sunrise highway. It was SUPER cheap (60-80) and the rooms weren't bad at all. It is smack in the middle of the tourist beach area next to four star hotels like of Ritz Carton, W and Westin. But because it is a motel with no amenities and kinda dumpy looking from the outside, I think they are able to charge so little. The beaches were literally just across the street. The area was safe and not really that far from the school. I left at 7am and had a plenty of time to get coffee and etc and arrived at the school by 8am. I even got lost on the way because my GPS was acting up. They don't provide shuttle or serve continental breakfast so its best if you rent a car. Besides, with the car you can drive up and down the beach and go swimming.

The beaches were super awesome. As awesome as the school itself. I am sure everyone knows how incredible this school is so I won't review it. But just to summarize, because it is part of larger NSU university, you are part of the larger NSU population. And I loved that. They just had the Florida Senate election debate on the Campus and supposedly the school has a tons of lectures, concerts and other non medically interesting things going on as well. The library was amazing and the gym... oh man,,, the gym was the best as was their simulation labs with 3 or 4 Harveys. They are also in the middle of building a new ginormous health profession research building. Anyways, going back to the beach, make sure to bring some kind of eye goggle so you can see the fishes that swim near the shore. I saw a whole bunch and it was super neat. I even found this men's gold ring with a ton of diamonds on it. If they turn out to be real, I will be rich! pay back all my credit card debt for sure. I suspect that they are real since they look like they have been in the ocean for a while and the gold part still looked gold. And besides, I don't think they make men's ring with fake gold and diamonds.

I highly recommend staying near the beach if you can afford to rent a car. I swear it made my experience really memorable. It was exactly what California falsely advertise itself as being. The interview was kinda blah... Frankly it was so short. I really don't know how they select their students since we didn't have to do secondary. I suspect the lunch with their famous dean counts a lot in terms of your getting accepted to the school. If not I really have no idea what they judge you on.

If any of you have any question hit me up

I think this was my last interview of the season. Going to cancel all the other coming up. Super glad that the last one was the best.

Florida has an awesome diverse population to learn from. That's exciting. Do you have any websites listing the residency spots available? I know Nova has a ton of affiliations which is awesome. I can't remember if the school records lectures...does anyone know? I remember it being mentioned that they do.

the population is not as diverse as LA though. But that said, since its in tropical climate, I bet there will be more pathological that you can't get in dry and cooler places like LA. Their residency is awesome. The list goes on and on...

I am not familiar with the LA population, I know that FL has a huge immigrant inflow with problems we don't see on "regular americans". That is something that is fascinating to me. When I was there the doctor who talked to me in the simulation lab said they like to teach you how to do things w/o technology which is a huge plus for me because I want to be able to work in areas that don't have the resources major metropolitan areas do and abroad as well. A lot of residencies affiliated with NSU! So amazing!

Audio and video. And contrary to what others say it is not mandatory to attend lectures. I think depending on classes you just have to go certain percentage. Some of course s are mandatory. I love that your rotation sites are competely taken care of for you.
