According to the guide that gave me the tour, the school provides (from your tuition money) every student with all the e-texts. You need something to read them on (computer, smartphone, iPad/iPod, Android tablet, etc.)

No hauling around suitcases of books like the poor, condemned, souls at LECOM-B. :laugh:

They are. You will get a copy of all the books on a single disc through VitalSource Bookshelf.

lol all of this is accurate. I still have my rolly bag that I bought in preparation for LECOM.

All of third year and a little of fourth year (emergency) is at the same core site (which will include a few different places in the same general area), so if you get Orlando as your core site, you'll do all of your core rotations there. Elective rotations can be done anywhere and have to be set up, so I guess if you wanted to you could probably set up some rotations in Orlando during fourth year too. Core rotation sites is a lottery system, so no guarantees you get your first choice, but 95% of the class apparently gets one of their top three choices.

Anybody know exactly how many % they increase the tuition each year? Also can someone confirm if we can become an IS student after the first year?

You can't become IS after the first year.
 
Did anyone else have to wait 3-4 weeks for an interview invite? I got a courtesy call about my application being under review about a month ago and have yet to receive an invite.

It also took them over a month to respond to one of my emails...is anyone else noticing these timelines?

All of your books will be given to you in ebook format powered by VitalSource Bookshelf. They have a free iPad app. I have an iPad and find it incredibly useful. A good chunk of my class has one. Virtually everyone that I know has one.

ahhh congrats pattycake!!! 🙂🙂 super excited!! just interviewed at touro nv and atsu-soma. this week. if i get into atsu i think i'll have a hard time choosing between nova and atsu-soma. buuut OMG I AM FINALLY GOING TO BE A DOCTOR!!!! ahhhhh years of waiting after college. finally able to see the fruits of my labor. and thank god i won't have to retake my mcat.

That is so awesome! I'm way happy for you! I know you'll end up at the perfect med school for you. I second that MCAT thing times 10000000. How does it feel to most likely have choices? 😉

I finally did send the paper back accepting my spot, but only last week. I still have to send transcripts from seven colleges, and pay the $1250 deposit by December.

I am waiting to hear back from my state school before I send off my deposit.

I'm waiting on my state school as well. I'm gonna send in the piece of paper today.
I only have 2 schools to send transcripts from so that's nice. Registrar already hates me but that's OK because after December they won't see me for a long time! haha!

My advisor always laughs at me because I'm always like: "If they did everything right the first time, we wouldn't have so many problems!" Ohhh myyyyy...

We might be classmates, after all!

Ha ha. That is a funny story.

Nova is my second choice school after OHSU. It just makes financial sense to be able to stay in my house, my wife keep her job (and health insurance), and pay almost $100K less over the four years. It does sound fun to go on an adventure to the other side of the country, but sometimes logic needs to win over emotion. Now that is a dependent on whether OHSU like me at the interview time.

I did get accepted to the DO school in my state, but I would still need to move. My thought is to go big or don't go at all. That is why COMP-NW is my third choice.

It would be cool to be class mates.

Hey guys!! I'm an OOS student applying to Nova and shadowed a Nova DO who wrote me a letter. Do you think this is a big factor in getting an interview or are they more focused on in state students? Thanks!

Only a few people in my interview group were from Florida. I was OOS and was accepted.

Good luck. Your screen name is perfect for the school because they divide the school into houses (like H.Potter).

hey zoner! i really liked atsu because their curriculum was on a systems-scheme based. basically during a class, you are introduced with path, biochem, microbio, molec bio, pharm, etc as u learn thru the systems. they also incorporate clinical aspects into your classes so it is pertinent to clinicals atsu students will be doing for years 2-4. also the tests are designed like the boards so i guess you start learning the board style tests from year one. from my understanding, students stay at atsu for year one and move to a community health center throughout the country for year 2-4. so lots of info is condensed into your first year. i think it's 11 months of schooling as opposed to ~9month in other med schools. i also really liked the faculty. they had this social the night before the interview and I thought it showed how much they really cared about their incoming students. i got talk to interview faculty members and get a campus tour by a m1. they were all helpful and really nice. I got a super positive vibe from the students as well as faculty. i thought the interview day was actually one of the most relaxed and personale interviews out of the three i had.

modernalchemist. OMG I AM JUST GRATEFUL FOR NSU ACCEPTANCE. if i get into atsu and touro-nv i wouldn't know what to do with myself!! def would be amazing "to most likely have choices" 😀

My girlfriend's MD school did not always use board style questions.
 
As much as it pains me to do it, I will be withdrawing from Nova's admission process later this week.

Coming after LECOM-B, this school seemed absolutely incredible, and I am still very happy/fortunate to have been accepted here. However, I just got accepted to KCOM and I'm hoping to get accepted at KCUMB, both of which rank higher on my personal scale than Nova.

With that being said, best of luck to everyone applying here! To those with acceptances -- congrats! It's certainly a very solid school. While I'm sorry I won't be joining you next year, I look forward to possibly running into you during rotations or residency or wherever else down the road.

PS: To the current NSU students who contributed to this thread -- especially NeuroLAX -- I owe you a lot. To say you were very helpful would be an understatement.

Go to the Nova interview. You will not be disappointed.

I walked onto Nova's campus the day after my LECOM-B interview thinking "This had better be really damn impressive to justify the extra $$$".

It was only after interviewing here that I realized just how relatively crappy LECOM was and just how much I'd rather attend Nova. The two have completely different "vibes" which I can't adequately describe in words (although I think I tried to earlier in this thread... but I'm too lazy to dig it up).

Now obviously you might have a completely different opinion, but I would strongly urge you to consider interviewing at Nova so that you can compare the two schools, put things in perspective, and make an informed decision.

I appreciate the advice but its really my preference for PBL thats making me choose LECOM over all my other acceptances and skip on NOVA. I am finding myself looking at which curriculum best fits my learning style as the most important factor when deciding on a school. Yes, I agree those unnecessary rules are going to suck but they seem much less of a pain when I am only going to be required to be on campus for 2 hours most days. Plus, I have a feeling when I am going to be paying back loans, I am going to be thankful for not picking an expensive school. I haven't made my final decision 100% yet but this is where I am leaning towards as of now.

I hear you. Truth be told, I was put off PBL a little when the Dean went on a big rant about how everyone who dropped out of LECOM was a slow reader (and I'm a terribly, terribly slow reader). And yes. the debt burden at Nova vs LECOM is quite staggering -- it's less of an issue when you consider that you're getting more for your money at NSU (lectures, better campus facilities), but it's a significant burden all the same.

I agree with all of this. I think it's something you have to figure out for yourself. I wouldn't be down for having the pressure on being a fast reader and all PBL. Though, I can see how that would be great for some people.

There was no such rant at my interview. Instead, I remember them being pretty straightforward about the fact that them going on and on about PBL isn't because they think its the best curriculum out there but its because they want to be sure that us applicants can see ourselves being excited about PBL . But, I can understand how such a rant can discourage you. I have searched a lot on these forums researching PBL and the issue with being a slow reader is something that has been asked numerous times. Most LECOM students responding to this concern have said that this isn't something that can cause one to fail as you have plenty of time during the day to get the readings done.. Personally, I am not a slow reader so this isn't something I am too concerned about. To be very honest, PBL not being the "traditional" way of learning is making me not be 100% sure about my decision but when I think about what I would rather prefer: passively learn in a lecture/lab 8-5 and still go home to study or have more control over what I am learning along with the clinical aspect of PBL is whats pushing me towards it. My interview experience at LECOM was probably my worst one (group interview is a terrible idea) but after sitting in that 1-hour PBL session, I was sold. Its definitely a very, very tough decision to make and something that's giving me a lot of anxiety. Hopefully, I have the ability to make the best decision for myself.**Fingers crossed***
