Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you mean phase 1 accreditation, no. Nova is fully accredited and has been for a long time. If you mean phase 1 of the review process that would be no as well, depending on how you look at it I would say they are in phase 2, if you consider phase 3 the waitlist period.

If we're talking interview process with NOVA, based on the above recent results from the interview in Jan(?), I'd say they're in Phase 2.9 or pretty much 3..

300k in student loan debt is pretty scary. My dream is medicine so I'll just say that before someone replies with the "it's the price you have to pay if you want to do medicine line". If I didnt take any extra $ for living expenses (I have a wife that will be working), Im looking at 262 with undergrad factored in. The guy who did the tour said he took out 85k for the first year! I can reconcile with the debt load most days but sometimes it seems crazy.

Yeah it is alot of money. However Nova is one of the best DO schools so I look at it as a cost of being with the best. Most MD school are easily hitting that 300K mark too. What we have to pay out for medical school is madness but even if the expense went into the millions I would still be on board, although if the pay didn't reflect the expense I would have no choice but to do some thing else. I just hope what we pay into medicine makes medicine all the better.

When is your interview WorldChanger?

Haha hope it is awesome for you. It was stellar when I was there. Amazing campus.

I am told although I am skeptical, that my first experience with Nova was not unique so they opened an extra two days for people they wanted to interview but screwed up with and for the most part many of these people didn't grab the opportunity so they opened it to others, which caused these scrambles to grab an interview that happened last week. Not sure if I believe all that but it is possible.

Yea - adcom meets tomorrow - it was said at 2/21 interview that we would have a decision no later than 3/8.

Fingers crossed for at least an alternate list placement - school's awesome, sticker price not so much but I'd go if given the opportunity.

How much is the total deposit at nova in case I get off the waitlist 🙂

The deposit is $1500 but counting the extra fees and all you have to pay with your deposit, it's around $2000 to pay upfront.

I am so hoping I get off this waitlist too... :xf:

Interviewed last week, and fell in love with this school. I really hope I didn't interview for a just a waitlist spot. This school is great, despite its hefty price tag.

Either of you two have other acceptances?

I have one acceptance. I do have two more interviews to go to, but I'm not sure that I will - it's very late in the cycle and unless they absolutely adore me, I'll probably be interviewing for their wait list.

Nova is my number one choice. I completely loved the school, the place, the people, and it would be nice to be able to stay in Florida... And I wanna wear those sky blue scrubs, dammit! 🙂

Well I found out my score is a 29 (10/10/9)

Would that be good enough for Nova next cycle or should I redo the MCAT?

AACOMAs GPA is: cumGPA: 3.56 sciGPA: 3.51 (should go higher after this semester)

Congrats! Those stats look fine to me. Both are above the average for Nova. Apply early and have good PS, LORs, and ECs and you will be fine.

Mine was lower and I got in. You'll be fine. Good luck!

That is pretty rock solid. Hold that score and roll the dice. Great job.

Where is your acceptance at? Any place on par with Nova?

VCOM South Carolina. I liked the school; it's a lovely place and has great people - also more focused on rural and international missions. But it is fairly new.

Meh... If I was in that situation I would be pushing for Nova until June. After that I would commit to VCOM and set up housing and stuff. Send Nova a good letter of interest and maybe you will get lucky.

Thanks guys, appreciate it

Thanks Worldchanger. Not even sure about doing USF at this point. Doesnt seem worth it.

Don't. Unless it's the IMS program their other programs won't give you any boost.

Btw, congrats on the MCAT score. Definitely competitive for Nova.

I wonder if the wait list is going to move during the cycle or at the end of the cycle. Anyone have any insight?

Apply early is priority #1 - can't be stressed enough (darklabel) - be totally complete by the end of summer (like August at the absolute latest!)

I would guess end of cycle considering they're still interviewing until late March (I've read the last date is 3/27 or somewhere in that week).

Yeah, I'm starting my PS now and such. I will do everything in May and turn it in June 1st. Hopefully I'll have an acceptance in August if all goes well :xf: (I'd prefer to reject all DO II's once Nova comes in.

Well you should do the IMS. I mean what else are you doing? I mean fill out the apps for med school and get them in and let them run. The IMS will give you a great fall back and knowledge in the field making med school easier. It is an accademic boost and gives you a great shot at USF. Nova is a great school but don't limit yourself because you have scores for one school always go for multiple acceptance.
