Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Being on SDN at the nova libraries is probably like getting caught watching porn. You want to hide the fact that you are doing it as it is a waste of time but yet it feels oh so right.

Try doing it during breaks between classes in an auditorium with 250 others around you... watching you, judging you.

JK nobody is watching or judging... just wanted to add some climactic suspense. It seemed appropriate.

Try doing what? Watch porn or go on SDN? 😛

Which is more taboo?

I'm sad that so many awesome people are going here and I'm not, although I'm quite happy with where I'm going.
Good luck and I'll hopefully see you guys somewhere out there!

Does anyone happen to know the non-resident tuition? All the material they give out declares FL residence. Or are they the same because Nova is a private institution?

Non-resident is more - no change in residency once matriculated either. Exact number is on website but it's right around 48k.

Is there anyway to change residency quickly before matriculation? I know Ohio is a one-year gig.

From the nova website,

"Residency decisions made at the time of matriculation will remain the same during the entire time a student is enrolled in the Health Professions Division of Nova Southeastern University regardless of any change in conditions."

So no, you can't qualify for the reduced rate after a year.

Luckily the differential is only $4k I think so grand scheme of things, not much.

anyone who interviewed in Feb hear back yet? I was expecting a response on Friday.

Feb 14th interview group, crickets so far. Admissions said during interview day we would expect to hear no later than 3/8.

I think if no one got a response, wait for this Friday. For me it took about 3 weeks so don't lose hope!

When are the last round of interviews? I think from here on out it is waitlist or rejection. I think the class right now is full. After my Jan 31st interview all I saw was alternate list on here. More than the last adcom meeting where I saw accepted posts. Hopefully there is movement Mid- March since there is a deadline for payment coming up.

Always a pessimist somewhere - haha! We'll see come Friday what happens! No conclusions for me until then.

I sure hope so... I wish there was ranking of some sort, so that we would at least how much of a chance we have at being picked from the alternate list...

A friend of mine said that 20% of his class (2015) was off of the waitlist. Out of 230 students that is 40 people. So I am not too worried, just waiting for things to shake up as far as people making a definite decision on which school they will attend across the U.S.

Not bad odds at all.

Anyone have any idea how large the waitlist typically is? (40) students does not mean much without a denominator.

Yea I wonder what the denominator is as well. I'm not sure if they've been wait listing people all along or if they just started since the class was filling up if not full...

Sifting through last years thread it seems that NOVA is an accept 'em or reject 'em school. It seem that if you are not rejected post interview you qualify for acceptance, so if you get waitlisted it seems like a space issue.

Have you interviewed here yet? Yesterday there was a guy dressed in a suit on a tour with one of our ambassadors (I think, could've been dental but I was pretty sure it was one of ours). I was a little confused when I only saw one person.

When is the ceremony for this years class? Anyone who has already been accepted know? Thanks

does anyone know if anyone has been interviewed and then rejected? i have not seen any postings to suggest that situation...

just wondering if everyone who interviews either gets accepted or wait listed

If they interview even twice a week (they do it more frequently than that), they have had far more interviews than the number of accepted students would indicate if everyone got in. Average 15 students for each session (there are usually 20 in the beginning months). 225 students would fill up in 15 sessions if everyone were taken. That's not even 2 months.

I doubt everyone gets in. Maybe they do but people take other spots elsewhere. So that leaves empty spots to be filled. In either direction nova only seems to pick people to interview that they would like to have attend. Unless you start stripping and cursing mid interview I really don't see you getting rejected. But then again the numbers above don't seem to support that.

Stripping AND cursing? You thought stripping alone was insufficient? 😉

I've been waitlisted since November, so it's been going on all along

Hey maybe you look like brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. Then stripping won't hurt as much...cursing on the other hand, combined with stripping doesn't seem too savory.

True. I wonder if you would include stripping under ECs, volunteer work, or hobbies. :/

Waitlisted since Nov!! That's a bummer, by now, I would think there would be like 100 people on it at least

Yea I think every interview group they waitlist people, and supposedly will pick them off at random once the list starts to move

Withdrawing my acceptance here because I got accepted to KCOM. Good luck everyone!

Heh... No I will be interviewing with a normal group on the 21st.

Keep in mind they over accept too. So a class of 250 will over accept about 100 applicants and waitlist another 200 or so.

Finally got an email back from Nova. I'm on the the wait list... better than a rejection!

2/14 group, add me to the waiting pool.

edit: I don't know month numbers 🙁
