Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just withdrew my acceptance after struggling with this for a month. Good luck to everyone applying!

Think I'll send an update letter after grades are official, pulled off an AB in Ochem lab and a B for Ochem II, better than Ochem I so I'll take it. Hopefully we hear something back though now that deposits are up.

Any idea where to send it? I've contacted multiple people in admissions about sending a letter of intent, but sadly, have received no responses. They must be getting a lot of similar emails and are just pretty backed up.

I think that was in last years thread about the number of students enrolled at the start of the semester. I think you had to be enrolled to find that info out.

Ok so no one is registered for any classes for fall 2014 right?! I was worried I missed some memo about enrolling in classes for fall and kinda freaked out because I hadn't done so haha

Relax! You won't have to worry about any of that stuff for quite some time. Just wait for the extra matriculation papers to come in the mail and then go from there. In the meantime, go out and have fun!

They have extremely high Florida representation. Florida has a lot of public schools. Thus NSU sees a lot of accepted students choosing in-state MD schools over it.

That was kind of my question to the poster as well. I don't how he/she was able to see these dates.

Yes when I interviewed I was given a link for calendar dates. I just saved the email. I have a separate folder called AACOMAS in my inbox and save everything DO related. I would show you the link but Nova said not to share it with anyone

Ok... how many more dates after the holidays?

Does anyone know the direct line for either the Osteopathic school or Linda Ferris? I've been accepted and sent in my deposit but I wanted to call to make sure they received everything and every time I call the HPD line, I've been put on hold for at least 15 minutes...

I also got a call a few nights ago saying I was missing some required documents and I called them back to see what it was and the person I spoke to on the phone said he can't see what documents I'm missing but that my deposit is in...I'm hoping these missing documents (whatever they are) aren't affecting my acceptance...

I've also emailed hpdinfo several times to make sure they have everything/for another question and I've heard no response (this was weeks ago). I understand they must be busy at this time but I shouldn't have to wait weeks to hear back about an email.

Your missing documents could be some of the extra matriculation forms (I don't think they've sent out those forms yet- but then again I don't know what they've sent you thus far). If you haven't graduated undergrad yet, then one of those missing documents is unequivocally your final transcript.

Thanks! I finally figured it out after calling again- it's the transcripts from a summer class I took at a different school.

II after being "complete" in August
International Student (Canadian)
3.6 cGPA/sGPA
Current MSc student
Already accepted at AZCOM. Not sure if I should take the interview. Will have to research more into the differences between the schools. Any advice?

Just got II as well- completed sometime in October- 3.6/31 OOS
Also strangely already accepted into AZCOM and ATSU SOMA

I'm sure you made the right choice for you. Which school did you end up picking if you don't mind me asking.

I've tentatively accepted MSUCHM, but I am also waiting to hear back from Minnesota. It'll be a tough choice if I get into both as MSU was is my Alma mater.

I was accepted at ACOM and just received an II today from NSU. Could any current students give me some pros and cons about NSU? I know I love ACOM, but NSU is in my home state. It's a bit difficult to get information from NSU's website.

I know zilch about ACOM, so I will not be able to provide any comparison. Anything in particular that you wish to be clarified?

Can I ask when you were complete for NSU?

You're not the least bit worried about ACOM not being accredited yet? Having any history of board scores? Etc? ... I realize new schools generally have their game plan pretty set and will make it, but there are no guarantees.

Interview invite today. I'm debating whether I should schedule it before or after my DMU interview.

I was complete for NSU back in September. I think it took them forever to get to me because I realized a few weeks ago that they didn't have my newest MCAT score. As far as ACOM, I'm not worried about accreditation because no school has EVER lost their accreditation or failed their accreditation once they've started the process. Besides, even if for some reason they did, it doesn't negate our education. Osteopathic schools have it set up where they have to have a few million dollars set aside as an insurance policy for their students so that in the case that they fail accreditation, the students will be taken up by another osteopathic school. Yes this can be inconvenient for the student, but isn't a cause for worry. Board Scores: I feel those are within my power to do well on. Yes a school can help get you there, but only you can make the difference between an average score and an excellent score. Same goes for Match results. I feel that you will get out what you put in and ALL schools can only contribute so much to that equation. As far as my question is concerned, I just want to hear a current student's opinions of NSU: what they like, what they don't like, etc.
I liked ACOM because they put the student first in everything. Not included in tuition, they pay for COMSAEs after every semester, they pay for your first attempt at COMLEX 1 and COMLEX 2 CE, and all teachers are certified to write for the COMLEX so they make sure all exams for the school are consistently similar to what you would see on an actual COMLEX exam (just to name a few things).

I am happy to hear that you have fully looked into the situation and know what you would be getting into...I was not aware of all of this accreditation rules and that makes a big difference! I was not trying to be negative, just wanted to hear your input on the case. I appreciate all of the new info - thank you!

As for NOVA, I feel like we might be in the same boat. I was complete in mid-september as well but had a retake on the MCAT... how did you find out that they did not get your newest MCAT score? I am a little worried now that this might be the case for me as well since I have not heard a single thing for months! Did you give the adcom a call and do you have their direct number??? They might just be the hardest school to get through to. Thanks for all the help!

Any 12/10 interview people get any news?

I Remember they said they were rushing to get out decisions before winter break. The adcom was supposed to meet 12/17 so it's possible that they would put out acceptances/rejections/wait list decisions today or tomorrow.

I interviewed that day and I really want this school. Put it out there if you got any news

Thanks and good luck

Just got one of those NOVA Enrollment and Student Services emails regarding my outstanding application requirements/missing documents. I am taking this as good news! Because I recall earlier in the thread people were receiving similar emails prior to acceptances?! Fingers crossed!

I just got an email stating that my decision (post-interview) is "pending." They said the Class of 2014 is full, and they are not reviewing new applicants or granting anymore interviews. Did anyone get this email?

This is really strange. I got an ii last night. Wondering what this means for me

Agh neermindd
Please keep me updated on if you receive an acceptance via email vs. snail mail. I'm home for break and not at my standard mailing address, so if they sent it via snail mail I will have to call. Seems like it's been a bit unpredictable regarding how they've informed applicants.

Oh thank you for saying that! I got one of those emails an checked my status, no change in the documents column though so I freaked out and sent them another round of interfolio letters because there was a blank next to one professor, if that wasn't it they're going to be like wtf is this kid doing but otherwise hopefully that fixes the problem. I'll let you know

Haha, now my quote says "agh nevermind" lol

Let us know! I have called so many times already I was going to try and be patient lol, so someone else calling is good haha

People that have been accepted:

Did you submit Letters of Interest/Intent prior to getting an acceptance?

Ok so I got the outstanding requirement email, but when I went to Webstar, nothing was there in terms of the outstanding requirements. Regardless, I'm taking this as good news from previous posts. eeekkkkk

I believe I interviewed that same day as you both, 10/31, and I also received the outstanding requirement email this morning. Yesterday I called the HPD admissions and the lady looked up my file and said a decision was made on Monday and that the letter was sent out. She explained she could not give the decision over the phone but then proceeded to say they are requesting final transcripts. I replied by saying "that could only mean one thing, are you trying to give me a hint?" and she laughed. Point of the story, I think we will have decisions in our mailboxes today or tomorrow!

This is so exciting! That being said, I am not at my normal mailing address and won't be until January 14th 🙁 I wonder if I just call them if they can give me some information over the phone if I explain the situation?
