Nova Southeastern Univ (NSU-COM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did they get the approval for building the teaching hospital? I forgot to ask the Dean during my interview day. If the plan is approved, that would be amazing Nova.

I believe so. I was skeptical the entire time as to whether approval was granted myself but I literally saw construction happening so who knows.

Must have been other construction. State of Florida denied Nova's application to build a hospital. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/education/fl-nova-hospital-decision-20131206,0,5890342.story

When I log in to webstar it shows my transcripts, LORs etc and the date received, but not anything about the deposit. Is this the page where yours is showing?
IF you go to webstar, it shows the date of your deposit. Maybe we are waiting for a packet with orientation, immunization info?

Yes. I paid my deposit at Nova marketplace. Did you send it in by the mail? That could take longer to process.

How do you know if Nova received your lor's, does it show up on webstar?

Quick question:

Week ago I saw a post saying that Nova had stopped sending out new interview invite. They had interviewed enough. Is it correct?

I highly doubt that is true. I interviewed last week and was told that they have sent out around 100 acceptances. So I'm sure they will be interviewing for a bit longer considering there are a decent amount of spots to fill

And keep in mind, not all of 100 acceptances will put down a deposit for the Dec. 14th deadline or 30-day deadline, so that's even more good news.

Nova should increase seats to ~300 like MSU or NYCOM :cat:

I wasn't waitlisted or rejected but told that the class was full and that no new interview invites were being given out. I interviewed end of September btw and waited more than 2 months for that response

Absolutely not. I'm not an accepted student but increasing seats with unfilled residency placements doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Were you told this by a NSU admissions faculty member?

Well, the class definitely isn't full. I'm sitting on an acceptance that I haven't decided to take yet, so there's at least one open spot, even if it is reserved for me until at least the 14th. I imagine there are lots of people in my position even if they technically have sent out enough acceptances to fill the class.

I contacted the school due to the delay. But I'm pretty sure that the person was misinformed since it seems unreasonable to have the class filled with all the WL this year. Their administration needs a serious overhaul due to how disorganized things have been this year. I'm glad I got an acceptance elsewhere since the entire application process with NSU has been anything but pleasant and can only imagine the issues that could arise as a student there.

Does anyone know if NSU accepts a letter of intent and if so, where to send it?

Complete 8/26
Invite 11/12
Interview today 12/10

Thought it went well. Loved the school. The interviewers were polite and fair and the student guides were cool and helpful.

I asked about the waits list and was told about 100 acceptances were out so there is a lot of room left to fill up.

FYI 3.3/30 not urm

I believe so, but it's been a long time since ii's have gone out, correct?

I'm a student here and I see interview groups every tuesday and thursday. Remember SDN isn't the end all be all!

Just called again today. Still decision pending. My feelings about this process:

8/2 - ii --> flattered, very excited and hopeful
10/17 ( interview) --> even more excited and confident of acceptance
11/17 (a month later) --> nervous, anxious, doubtful, scared, etc.
Today...... feeling numb, headache, thinking about retaking the MCAT

How many schools did you apply to? I hope you applied to a handful of schools.

Can anybody who interviewed recently comment on when the next admissions committee will be and when decisions should be sent out? Hopefully before the winter break?

Hah yes part of me has essentially given up hope altogether. I'm kinda looking at it as a rejection, but who knows! Either way I had to put down my deposit elsewhere, so even if I get accepted, it will be tough for me to let that $1,500 go....

I feel like we would be at least waitlisted since DO schools rarely reject post-interview. I haven't heard of anyone being rejected from Nova post-interview.

Hopefully we'll find out next week after deposits are due and they figure out how many seats they still need to fill.

i interviewed in late sept....STILL WAITING FOR MY DECISION.😡

I interviewed 9/19 and we were told we would hear back NO LATER than November 8, 5PM....and I'm still waiting. 28/3.5/3.6 and I felt my interview went well. I call each week and they just don't seem too organized.

According to Neko Beats and Pamela Merriweather... Nova doesn't silently reject. So I guess we can hope we are still in the running

crap! I interviewed on 9/19 too. My letter was postmarked on November 8th. Hope you get a decision soon!

Wow, I am very sorry to hear all of those who have interviewed have to wait so long for a decision... I am still waiting to hear of anything about an II. I was complete in September and there has been no word since. Does anyone know how many interview invites left they have to send out and when their interviews season goes until? Thanks!

Lol we should make a thread of all the "forgotten" interviewees from Nova just to get an idea of how rediculous this is

I agree, when they tell people the absolute latest they will hear back is Nov 8, they should keep that. Otherwise they should have told us we would know by January so we don't worry about it so much. "The cruelest punishment is false hope."

Nova is still sending me acceptance info even though I mailed, and emailed, them about declining a seat. So there may be a lot of movement after the deposit deadline passes. I have been following many of you and am sending positive thoughts!

Where are you headed? I've seen you a few different threads! Congrats btw!

I am headed to ACOM! I am so excited! The school and area just fit me better. We went from a family of 2 kids to 4 with taking in my niece and nephew. They need room to run and big houses around Nova are waaaaay over our budget! CUSOM was an amazing school too but further from my support system. How is your application cycle going?

Awesome, congratulations, it's got to be a great feeling to know where you're headed!

My experience has been great this cycle... I have been fortunate to receive a few acceptances to some amazing places, but am still waiting for many more possible interview invites (hopefully!) In particular, NOVA! How did you like it...If it was not so expensive you have gone? Is it just the CoA that's expensive or for housing/living?

Does anyone know if NSU accepts a letter of intent and if so, where to send it?

Yes they are open to letters of interest and letters of intent. I sent mine directly to Anastasia, so I would assume that the usual protocol is to send it the acting admissions counselor. They will put it in your file. Not sure who that is, though.

Nova was not the fit for me even if the COA was lower. I did not feel like it was home from the moment I got there. I can't explain it. I killed the interview but the rest of the day just seemed "off". Great facilities and I know many who love it there! I had about 13 ii but only went on 3 interviews and was blessed with 3 acceptances. That was enough for me with my busy life! And finally knowing where I will be going after all these years is an AMAZING feeling!! Can't wait to get started!
What is your top choice right now?

Just PM-ed you!

hi guys! I remember earlier in the thread someone was able to see how many students were registered through webstar for some class. I was wondering how you guys got to that point? I tried looking for that post but I couldn't seem to find it.

I think that was in last years thread about the number of students enrolled at the start of the semester. I think you had to be enrolled to find that info out.
