Q: How did you learn about osteopathic medicine?

Did y'all elaborate a lot on this question?

ahhhh I just submitted mine without thinking about how it could be answered in an essay format!!! T_T I thought it was just a simple and sweet question. FAIL.

Sigh, time to pray.

I wrote like 3 words and got an interview...you're good 🙂

Thanks ewelling! Omg you just made my day!!!!!!!! T_T😍:highfive:

Same, I wrote "My friend's dad, who is a DO anesthesiologist." Not even a complete sentence. Had an interview last Thursday.

Be careful with how easy you guys think these interviews might be, my group was mixed. Some of us got softball, some of us, like myself, did not, although if you can't answer these you may want to think about some things. Free advice there.

1. Why Osteopathic Medicine
2. Why NOVA?
3. I see you took the MCAT twice, scoring 26 and then 33. What happened in between?
4. In your personal statement you discuss a shift in your academic performance, if you really shifted, why the low MCAT score the first time?
5. Have you applied to any allopathic schools? Why? WHICH ONES?
6. Would you go to a DO over an MD? Why? I'm an MD I think I'm a great doctor (I'm not even kidding here folks)

My interviewers said when I was leaving that they enjoyed their discussions with me, and we were talking casually about research and the healthcare plan and the interview process for the last 5 minutes or so. My interview took about 25 minutes (typically 15 that day). Here at the beginning I am predicting they want to really look into the candidates who are applying, dig in to their real desires.

I wish the best to you all. Don't be nervous, just be prepared and understand if you are honest, you'll be just fine, although telling them you're applying to anything that can get you a degree is something you'll want to keep to yourself, and for god's sake email your interviewers and say thank you, I gave that tid-bit to a lot of applicants in my group whose first interview was this one.

Wow, if I got that question I would squirm.

so decisions friday? bracing for the worst 🙁

Went today as well. Freakin awesome place. Tough ish interview. Praying I get accepted !

Did you end up saying the names of other programs?
I had a similar question at this interview - where else did you interview? - and I gave the name of the program. Wondering how other people handle this.

Now I'm anxious/nervous for Friday! Good luck to my fellow 8/27 folks, and to everyone else for that matter!

I got asked a very similar series of questions.

Are you applying both allopathic and osteopathic? Yes.
Why? I want to be a physician. I don't know which school will accept me, so I applied to every school I felt I would fit their mission statement, which included MD and DO.

I didn't get any follow up questions, so I figure my answers were satisfactory.

Guys, make sure u ask the interviewers questions about the school?
I personally asked them about the MPH program they offer, and one of the interviewers teaches some courses of this program and started talking about MPH for several minutes.
I also asked them what they like about working for NOVA, and I got some great respond. Show them that u are eager to study at NOVA!

hey guys just wondering what do they serve for lunch at the interview......I have some dietary restrictions so thinking whether I need to eat a big breakfast that day

I think it is a good idea to email the interviewers and thank them for the opportunity. I'm curious to know how you would go about getting their contact information.

After the interviews are taken care of, the students gather in a large conference room and eat lunch with the Dean. There, the students get papers containing all the interviewers' names and contact email addresses.

Good luck to those interviewing tomorrow! I'll be stopping by in the morning 🙂

They had chips, fruit salad, and all different wraps. I do gluten free so I just ate the stuff out of the wrap. If you can't have any of that I would call and let them know. Good luck!

I realized that I had forgotten to email my interviewers to thank them for the day, that I appreciate being considered etc. In the hustle and bustle of getting back to work and preparing for my next interview the following week, it completely escaped me.

I hope the thank you email isn't an unspoken "requirement" for admissions and this will be a negative mark against me 🙁

I don't think it is. I mean, you thank them right after the interview , in person.. That probably matters more to them.

Yes, I made sure they understood that I appreciated the opportunity very much and that I looked forward to hearing back from them and hopefully attending NSU next year.

But folks on SDN make such a big deal about thank you emails and notes that I had a neurotic moment 😱 Makes the feeling worse with the potential notifications going out Friday.

I don't think it matters at all.

I've spent many a night worrying about this same thing but I realized that for as many people saying they sent in thank you notes, there are just as many who did nothing and still got an acceptance. I don't think they hurt but I also don't think it's going to make or break your decision.

Hah so I get to meet NekoBeats, but what about the infamous NeuroLax?

If anyone is at the Hampton Inn and wants to go grab some lunch/dinner, send me a PM and i'll give you my cell #!

Anybody heard anything yet about the next batch of interviews? Seems like its been a couple weeks since anyone's mentioned getting offered one.

I filled out the secondary and paid the $50 today, but didn't see anything about letters of recommendation. Does that come later, or did I miss something?

For those who had their interview yesteday, the 10th, did you receive an email from Nova acknowledging the receipt of two documents, DRESSC and CCONDU? were these the documents we signed and turned in at the beginning of our interview day?

That's normal. And yes, they are those documents.

Thank you, NeuroLAX.

Just wondering, did you see us while we were touring the school?

BTW, I'm so in love with this school 😍. Everything about it is great. I'm very impressed. This was my first of six scheduled interviews, and NSU definitely sat the bar so high. I just hope that I made a good impression.

Nah. I think I saw the first group, but that's it.

Glad you like the school. Definitely a great place to study medicine. Not just the school itself but the area of South Florida in general. Good luck.

The school is amazing and I would be lucky to go here. It was definitely more attractive than a few MD schools I visited/interviewed at. I'll mirror all of the nice things said in this thread... And the mustache is great! The only negative is how short the interviews are, but like everyone said they are very straight forward.

Wut? 😕

Short interview! Negative?

Yesterday morning kind of sucked because there was an unusual amount of traffic on University. Apparently there was some kind of meeting and they closed off the first floor of the parking lot. I was running late for class so I poked my head into the waiting room for literally a second and couldn't actually meet you all. I hope your interview went well!

neko i remember you from the quini thread this past cycle! looks like you found warm place to be!

Hey dude, I totally remember you! Yeah, Florida is pretty great haha I can't complain!

Gonna agree here, a shorter interview isn't a bad thing.

I guess that for me I enjoy talking with the interviewer and having a greater chance for them to get to know me. I was very nervous for the first few minutes and a little out of breath especially since I was called in right after the walking tour-- I feel that I would have performed a little bit better had I had a longer time to show who I am.

The questions were nothing to be afraid of though. I studied the ACA for hours and was disappointed with no questions about it 😛. The questions were different for everyone though.

last year, ppl started hearing back in an hour from now. 😀

Ok so if it's an acceptance, it will be an email (not phone call) and if it's a rejection, it will be nothing? Will the waitlisted receive an email or nothing?

do people who interviewd thurs hear back today also?

You know what...we may not even find out today. Going to watch Doctor Who and de-stress.
