It doesn't seem like externships are very important for ortho. In fact, I asked a member of the admissions committee at the ortho program at my school, and they said it carries zero weight on your application. It seems other schools tend to feel the same way from what I've gathered. Further, it could impact you negatively at the school you do the externship at if they end up not liking you. For OMFS, externships seem much more important.

Last year they had 163 applications, and 2 years ago 182 applications according to the ADEA database.
They more than doubled!! 😱

They don't interview all the applicants. Far from it, actually. I can't reveal how many they interview.

When a program is either 2 or 3 yrs depending on if you want to do masters or not, do we usually have to decide that before starting or during the program you can just do one more year to get the masters?
