How are you all planning on coordinating the moving process/housing search. I know it is super early, but, the idea of planning a move across the country and then getting off of the waitlist at my top choice really excites me/stresses me out.

I just bought a coffee machine for my hypothetical apartment that I have not found yet....it's a start

It's actually pretty ridiculous. You could put on 20 lbs and not realize until you try to put on jeans for the first time in 6 months
Probably have to switch to tighten whities instead of boxers though, so there is a downside.

Helllll no. You don't even have to adjust your boxers when you put your legs through. It's so awesome.

I leave for Iceland in 2 days! Can't wait!
Okay turtles.... this is getting weird.

Scrubs have ruined real clothes for me.
To some degree I miss my clothes, they sit in my closet all sad and alone. Any time I go out with friends they always ask why I'm so dressed up and it's only because those are my few opportunities to wear real people clothes.

That's interesting, I'm the opposite. I just wear my ugly shorts and a t shirt if I'm not in scrubs.

There was a thread on reddit complaining about not being able to be fashionable working in a stem field. Interesting from a woman's perspective since it was a woman focused subreddit. Different strokes for different folks.

Spain and Prague will be cheap, Switzerland and Germany not so much. I would recommend daylight train travel to Switzerland since that is the best part of Switzerland, Zurich is kind of boring besides that.
This is exactly what we do. We don't even stay in switzerland except for like 7pm when we arrive in Zurich by plane. Then we just go out for a beer, go to the hostel, and we take this special train that goes through the Alps to Munich that is supposed to be awesome. All we are doing is seeing the alps really. And ya, most our days our spent in East europe where it is SUPER cheap. Ibiza will surely run up the price a bit.

Rabbit Holing is a dangerous game my friend

I honestly love my job on most days. Despite that, if I didn't need $$$ I probably would quit to read books, play video games, and not wear real clothes while eating cookies. The lazy life calls to me.

I feel this on a spiritual level. I love my job but I also love the long weekends it affords me. Sweats, Netflix and crap food ftw

Lol thought this thread was gunna be super serial info about getting ready for med school... wrong
I love class threads

I was in ths 2018 and 2019 ones for my previous cycles and I still talk to a lot of them in their fb groups. Awesome people haha

Ok guys and gals I am super bored at work. So, it's time for an important question regarding stethoscopes...

On a scale from 1-10 (1 = non douchey/toolish; 10 = douchey/toolish), what are your thoughts on engraving one's name? And are you considering it? I'm considering it, simply for the possibility that a classmate has the same one as me (since Cube doesn't mess with funky colors).

You are going to loose the stereoscope. Why not attach one of those Bluetooth locators to it . I wouldn't think it was douchey unless you acted douchey.

Def not douchey imo. I've heard those things are like pens: you leave it behind or someone asks to borrow it and it disappears into the void. I hate losing pens; I'm certainly going to do everything to keep my stethoscope from meeting the same fate.

Only if it's in fancy cursive

Got an II at Loma Linda earlier this week. Debating how long to visit SoCal for now ... haha

Also any food suggestions?

My for sure go to right now is Ahgashi Gopchang, Hangari Bajirak Kalgooksu, Daikokuya, Marugame Monzo, El Taurino, Half&Half, and Honeybee. Possibly Sugarfish too.

As you can see ... mostly Asian foods so open to other suggestions!

I got a pretty dope neon blue stethoscope from my emt class in college. I'm a little worried about that looking strange/unprofessional... but it would be easy to differentiate.

There's nothing wrong with a little personality. I'd go with it! Plus, at the end of the day, it's nonsense to say that one color is more professional than any other...it's subjective.

I think the concept is a 6
I think the functionality is a 2
I think your new profile pic is a 1

I honestly don't need the $$$. But I just finished booking a Eurotrip from June 28th - July 22nd through Barcelona, Ibiza, zurich, munich, vienna, budapest, prague, berlin, amsterdam, and london. So now I kind of do need the money... For those curious, the trip is really not that expensive at all. Flights were like $1400 and the largest expense. After all travel/planes/trains and all hostels/hotels for all days, I've only spent $2300. I budgeted for 4k but it's looking like I get out with only 3K.

I suggest it! You'll never have 30 days to burn again in the rest of your life to do a backpacking euro trip. I'll be in $204,000 of debt instead of $200,000 of debt after medical school, so I don't think money should really stop us!

Are you going by yourself?
I really want to go on a Eurotrip myself but I can't find anyone else to go with me. Do you think it's totally safe for a girl to travel alone in Europe?

I work in an ICU and this is truth. Stethoscopes are just tools everyone uses, you grab the closest one. Either engrave your name or don't let it be out of contact with your body at any point

I'd probably do it if it isn't too much extra. You have to figure there are going to be at least 50-100 identical stethoscopes floating around first year, engraving is going to be pretty useful.

I'm a girl and I'm going for two months by myself! There are tons of posts and blogs from girls backpacking Europe alone that relay their experiences, pros/cons, etc. I actually wanted to go by myself, but you shouldn't let not having travel partner deter you!

I'm a girl and I will be going to Europe by myself this summer. I think girls traveling by themselves just have to be extra careful like not wandering in non-public places at night and we should be fine.

This thread has gone too quiet. Who has craziest plan/goal for what they want to do before med school starts?

I'm growing my hair out, does that count?

Watch your drink when you're out drinking. It's probably not just a European thing but just be careful at bars/clubs

Yes. Definitely! You have to be smart about it and some places are safer than others, but I spent last year traveling Europe and had 0 problems.

I actually cannot recommend traveling alone highly enough. You meet the most incredible people in hostels! I'm still good friends with several people I met while traveling (and now have people to stay with in several different countries the next time I get to travel).

That's awesome to hear! Have you ever done any solo backpacking in South America?
